1 s k r a p s l l u b m u r T Explore gh Geocaching throu Booth Hill Green Belt This was originally a concept to try and preserve some of the land in our town, without hurting the developers that are creating the roads and houses, a win for both sides. They wanted to carve out areas avoiding the wetlands. The perfect spot was near the Booth Hill Brook, it was near a river but avoided all wetlands, and development. Later on the land was donated to the town to be used for hiking and land preservation. This preserved area can be entered by the gated entrance on Old Field Rd. 2 Old Mine Park TNAC Geocaching, is a program designed to inspire the community to get outside and explore the beautiful parks of Trumbull. A Global Positioning Sensor (GPS) is used to find coordinates, to look for a box hidden some where in a designated Park area. When you find the box, it will have a small container inside with a trinket and a notepad. The person who finds it has to write their name and date on the pad, they then take the prize out of the box and replace it with something else. What you put in, can be anything, even just a note. The cache box coordinates are marked easy, moderate, and challenging accordng to the difficulty in terrain, and/or how well they are hidden.. Have fun! This park was originally opened in 1937 on the site of an old mine. It has an 11 mile loop trail for hiking and biking. The mine was originally opened up by Hubbard Tungsten in They mainly mined tungsten, but it was also a source of beryl, opal, topaz, and tourmaline. The mine production stopped in 1916 due to a fire. It then later became a park in Trumbull. This can be reached by following Main Street past route 25, and the entrance is on your right before you get to the town of Monroe. Park Box 1 Latitude N Longitude W (moderate) Start at the Tourist sign Walk 90 E 130 paces or until you reach the bathroom. Walk around to the opposite side of the building Walk 110 E through the pavilion until you reach the top of the hill (120 paces) Take a right onto the game trail (203 SW) 24 paces Walk uphill on path 144 SE 27 paces Continue uphill 190 SW 44 paces Congratulations you have reached the top of the hill, now take a right downhill 230 SW 20 paces STOP look right Park Box 2 Latitude N Longitude W (moderate) Start at the North corner of the rest room Go 360 N for 18 paces, you are now on the trail. Go up the trail for 762 paces You will reach a fork in the road continue to the right for 145 paces There will now be a large tree on your right, take a left 250 W downhill 84 paces In the middle of the valley turn left towards the river, Walk 205 SW for 65 paces. Turn right next to the large quartz pile and box should be in sight

3 Parlor Rock Park Great Oak Park Long before we had made full scale amusement parks, small corporations would put in amusement parks in some towns where they were located. Parlor Rock Amusement park was one of the first of its kind. It was built in the woods where the park was originally used as a picnic spot. The amusement park was originally put on by the Housatonic railroad company that was in the area. When the Housatonic Railroad Company saw how many people used the park, they decided to build an amusement park. The park was incorporated in 1981 as a park in Trumbull. The can be reached by the entrance on Whitney Ave, near Luigi s bakery. Park Box 1 Latitude N Longitude W (Challenging) Start at the Sign on the Whitney Ave Entrance Walk towards 310 NW for 217 paces Turn left up path at 270 W for 70 paces Turn right 310 NW and walk for 20 paces Turn right to 340 N and walk 3 paces You should see the box Park Box 2 Latitude N Longitude W (Challenging) Start at sign and walk 264 paces going 310 NW Take a right bearing 70 NE and walk 62 paces down the path Take a left 263 W and walk up the hill 23 paces Box should be around you. Great Oaks is a large woodland area that was purchased in the late 1960 s, and has the oldest and largest oak trees in Trumbull. Although it has not been a headliner in town, it offers walking trails through its beautiful woodlands, and wetlands. Boardwalks have recently been installed. This park is located off of Dayton Rd, which is near Madison Ave, and is off of Lake Ave. Park Box 1 Latitude N Longitude W (Easy) Begin at the left side of the entrance of the park on Dayton Rd Walk through the gate and down the path at 215 SW 117 Paces. Turn to 252 W Degrees and walk in that direction for 170 Paces The box should be in sight, if you have reached the wetlands you have gone too far. Park Box 2 Latitude N Longitude W (Challenging) Begin at the Sign on Dayton Rd Walk 315 NW 27 paces. Walk 260 W 63 paces Walk 290 W 45 paces The box should be in sight, but if you have reached the river you have gone too far.

4 Beach Memorial Park Middlebrook Park The land for this park was purchased by E. Merrill and Florence Beach from the Bridgeport Hydraulic Company. They donated the 166 acres to the Town of Trumbull in honor of their son Robert Beach who was killed in World War II. The park was dedicated in 1946 to honor Beach and the 21 other Trumbull boys who lost their lives in World War II. Robert G. Beach Memorial Park has a beach style pool with a graduated entrance as well as a concession stand. It also has many bike trails and plenty of great hiking areas. This park can be accessed From Hedgehog Road, or through Twin Brooks Park. Park Box 1 N W (moderate) Enter 1st parking lot on left after pool heading towards Daniels Farm Road Enter woods on Blue Trail Walk in direction of 150 degrees SE along Blue Trail 150 paces Turn 260 degrees SW onto the trail on the right Walk 25 paces and bear right 345 degrees NW Continue 145 paces up trail Turn left 210 degrees SW and walk 35 paces Box should be in sight next to rock This park is one of the smallest parks that we have in town. It is located behind the Middlebrook School, and takes a matter of two minutes to walk through the whole park. It offers hiking but the trail is paved and very short, it is just a nice area to walk around. There is a small river on one side, and the Parks Department is on the other. You can reach the park by going from the back of Middlebrook School, or from the opposite side on the dead end of Lillian Rd. Park Box 1 Latitude N Longitude W (moderate) From backside of the park go 341 for 98 paces Stop and then head due north for 30 paces Turn to 300 NW for 50 paces Box should be in sight, do not cross the river Park Box 2 Latitude N Longitude W (moderate) From backside of park go 341 NW for 54 paces Turn to 240 W for 30 paces The box should be in sight (don t go past the river) Park Box 2 N W (moderate) Start at the Beach Memorial Park Monument Circle on Beach Memorial Road Monument Circle features a large howitzer and a large boulder with a dedication plaque After viewing the memorials, start facing the large boulder and walk to the right 180 degrees S Walk 15 paces to the opening of a narrow dirt trail Head 180 degrees S down the white trail for about 300 paces where the white trail intersects the blue trail Continue down the white trail (160 degrees SE) 175 paces and pause at the large clump of boulders on the left Continue 40 paces on White Trail traveling 180 degrees S Turn right 240 degrees SW and travel 30 paces Look behind rock and box should be in sight

5 Indian Ledge Park Twin Brooks Park This park is part of the beautiful Pequonnock River Valley. It was jointly purchased by the Town and State in 1989 with the intention to preserve the land. There are lots of unofficial trails, wooden ramps and varied terrain which makes it appealing for hiking and mountain biking. Indian ledge Park is one of the larger parks in Trumbull, having 104 acres for recreational use. It has an amphitheater that hosts concerts, and has multiple soccer fields. There is a BMX track that holds national races, as well as other small events. It has great sledding in the winter and a small water park in the summer. This park can be accessed from Whitney Avenue, soon after the Rail Trail Park Box 1 N W (challenging terrain) Start from the lower parking lot near the playground Begin at the trail entrance next to the playground and head 195 degrees SW down the trail Walk 180 paces then turn 90 degrees E Walk up towards the steepest point approximately 45 paces Inside rock cove lays the box Park Box 2 N W (moderate) Start from the lower parking lot near the playground Begin at the trail entrance next to the playground head and 195 degrees SW onto the trail Walk down white trail until you reach rock wall approximately 3/4 mile down trail Look for rock wall on both sides of the road Turn right 290 degrees NW and walk alongside the wall 25 paces until a tree on the left side of the wall is reached Box is between rock wall and tree This park was purchased from the Outhouse Family in Twin Brooks is an 83.2 acre park near Trumbull Center which also connects to Beach Park. It has multiple ponds for fishing and one for swimming. There are trails for walking with many foot bridges and waterside rest spots. In front of the park is a Vietnam War memorial with flowers and a flagpole. This park can be accessed on Twin Brooks Drive which is off of White Plains Road. Park Box 1 N W (challenging terrain) After entering the park from White Plains road and passing playground and the lake, park in second parking lot Starting at the walking trail from the second parking lot head 270 W. Cross over the stone footbridge on the right near the lake. Take the paved trail heading 270 degrees W. Continue walking down winding foot trail, turn right 360 N at the three way intersection Continue to the next three way intersection with stone drainage on either side Bear left and walk in the direction of 340 degrees NW Travel 80 paces and turn 90 degrees E to your right Climb up the rocks The box is hidden within the rocks, approximately 20 feet up the rocks Park Box 2 N W (easy) Start on paved trail in the North West corner of the first parking lot Travel 345 degrees NW and walk 125 paces Bear right at 3 way intersection and walk 315 degrees NW Continue 135 paces to 3 way intersection Bear left heading 360 degrees N Walk 50 paces and turn left 270 degrees W Walk about 25 paces, the box is placed within the rock cluster

6 Island Brook Park Mische Brook Park This park boasts four ball fields, a playground and both tennis and basketball courts. It also features a scenic wildlife pond and a hiking path in a small wooded area. Island Brook Park can be accessed at the entrance at Wilmot Avenue and Garden Street, off Main Street. Park Box 1 N W (easy) Starting at parking lot, walk towards the baseball fields Begin by home plate on the left baseball field that is closest to the parking lot Walk 155 degrees SE 130 paces until wooden foot bridge is on left Turn left 120 degrees SE and walk over footbridge Walk 25 paces and turn left 45 degrees NE Walk 240 paces and turn left 330 degrees NW and walk 30 paces You should see the box next to tree Park Box 2 N W (easy) Starting at parking lot, walk towards the baseball fields Begin by home plate on the left baseball field that is closest to the parking lot Walk 155 SE 130 paces until wooden foot bridge is on left Turn left 120 degrees SE and walk over footbridge Walk 25 paces and turn left 45 degrees NE Walk 60 paces Turn left 315 degrees NW and walk 15 paces Box is behind a tree This park is one of the lesser known parks in Trumbull, but should not be missed. While on the smaller side, the park has interesting hiking paths that offer a change of scenery if you are accustomed to hiking in the more popular town parks. This park is a wooded area surrounded by Old Green Road, Mischa Hill and Booth Hill roads and Huntington Turnpike. The area is shaped like a triangle. Entrance to the park is gained by entering at the small trail marker on Old Green Road. Park Box 1 N W (moderate) Enter from Old Green Road Walk 90 paces down trail from road, 150 degrees SE Turn right 210 degrees, Walk across small river bed. You will find a trail going 190 SW Walk down trail 50 paces 190 SW Continue walking on the trail passing through the opening in the rock wall, for another 75 paces Turn right 255 degrees SW and walk 40 paces The box is in this area Park Box 2 N W (moderate) Enter from Old Green Road Walk 90 paces down trail from road, 150 degrees SE Turn right 210 degrees, walk across small river bed. You will find a trail going 190 SW Walk down trail 50 paces 190 SW Continue walking on the trail passing through the opening in the rock wall, for 75 paces While facing 160 degrees SE, continue walking for 100 paces, until you reach the rock wall on the right Continue down trail another 110 paces Turn right 270 degrees W and walk 25 paces Box should be this area
