2 Brainerd Lakes Area Snowmobile Trails Covering a land area of 1,670 square miles with nearly 1,000 miles of snowmobile trail the Crow Wing County Snowmobile Trails Association (CWCSTA) is made up of 12 snowmobile clubs in Crow Wing and Southern Cass Counties. The 12 clubs represent approximately 800 club members responsible for maintaining the miles of snowmobile trails, as well as providing input and guidance to our County organization and the state wide organization, Minnesota United Snowmobilers Association, in the conduct of its business. Without these dedicated volunteers who spend countless hours clearing and maintaining trails, operating the grooming equipment, managing the finances of the clubs, participating in community events, creating the CWCSTA map each year, working with landowners and endless fundraising our snowmobile trail system would simply not exist! The CWCSTA exists to Develop, Promote and Protect the sport of snowmobiling in Crow Wing and Cass County.

12 COMMUNITIES OF THE CROW WING COUNTY SNOWMOBILE TRAILS ASSOCIATION BAY LAKE (HOME OF THE BAY LAKE SNOPACKERS SNOWMOBILE CLUB) Located on beautiful Bay Lake, a 2,435 acre lake of bays, points and islands, and one of the top bass fishing lakes in Minnesota. A short two hour drive from the Twin Cities, brings you to the heart of the lakes area. We are located 10 minutes from Mille Lacs Lake, 20 minutes from Grand Casino Mille Lacs, and 20 minutes from Brainerd. A variety of golf courses, tennis courts, restaurants, movies, amusement parks, museums and shopping are all a short drive away. BAXTER (HOME OF THE BAXTER SNOWMOBILE CLUB) Serves as the gateway community to the Brainerd Lakes Area. Baxter is a fast-growing community that boasts many large retail stores. The City offers great shopping options with many one-of-a-kind finds and up-north flair. A green space gem is the 500-acre Northland Arboretum at the trailhead to the Paul Bunyan State Trail. From 1910 to the early 1980s, the lifeblood of the Cuyuna Range flowed red with iron ore. And the heart of the Cuyuna Range was, and is, Crosby. Today, the mines have closed and are filled with crystal-clear water, and the hills of overburden are covered in poplar and spruce. More than half our city is located within the 5,000 acre Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area, which has more than 24 miles of natural shoreline. Ironton is a small town with old fashioned friendliness and progressive ideas. The new industrial area on the west side of town is awaiting your company's relocation here! Ironton is the home of Minnesota's newest lakes. Rainbow and brook trout are stocked in some of the areas 14 reclaimed mine pits. The trout are not alone. Sunfish, crappie, bass (large and smallmouth), and big northerns also flourish in the rich, clean environment. Deerwood is the oldest community on the Cuyuna Range. Located between Lakes Reno and Serpent, it is located on the main line of the Northern Pacific Railroad. Stock and berry raising were some of the most important industries. Deerwood was designated a Minnesota Star City in EMILY (HOME OF THE EMILY/OUTING SNOWBIRDS SNOWMOBILE CLUB Located in the northeast corner of Crow Wing County, Minnesota, the City of Emily is part of Minnesota's Central Lakes Region and home to a diversity of lakes, streams, wetlands and heavily forested areas. The City of Emily's rural charm entices visitors and residents with great hunting, fishing, bird watching, wildlife watching, ATV trails, and other outdoor activities. FORT RIPLEY (HOME OF THE FORT RIPLEY TRAIL BUSTERS SNOWMOBILE CLUB) Fort Ripley, a city in Fort Ripley Township, incorporated March 19, 1927, near the east bank of the Mississippi, bears the name of the fort formerly on the opposite bank of this river, from 1849 to 1878, named in honor of Gen. Eleazar W. Ripley, more fully noticed in the chapter for Morrison County. Its post office was called Fort Gaines, , when established in Todd County, with postmaster John H. McKinney; the name was changed in 1851, with Charles H. Oakes, postmaster. GARRISON, (HOME OF THE GARRISON COMMERCIAL CLUB) Garrison, Minnesota is located on Mille Lacs Lake the largest lake in Central Minnesota and a premier walleye lake. In the summer in Garrison, MN you can take a launch out to a great fishing spot. Even though fall brings cooler weather the fishing is still hot and you can also enjoy our beautiful fall colors. Garrison doesn t stop in the winter either! It is one of Minnesota s best winter fishing spots and the town becomes a community on ice! If you get your fill of fishing there s well groomed trails for hiking in summer and snowmobiling in winter. Dining opportunities are plentiful and there are always unique shopping experiences. And Grand Casino Mille Lacs has slots, blackjack and bingo for adults and Kids Quest and Grand Arcade for kids and teenagers. Grand Casino has a variety of entertainers throughout the year and something that appeals to everyone s tastes! The special events in Garrison never stop: The Arctic Blast, Garrison Play Days, fishing contests and ice races are just a few of the fun things you ll find to enjoy.

13 COMMUNITIES OF THE CROW WING COUNTY SNOWMOBILE TRAILS ASSOCIATION GULL LAKE AREA (HOME OF THE GULL LAKE DRIFTERS SNOWMOBILE CLUB) Gull Lake is bordered by three communities East Gull Lake, Nisswa and Lake Shore. In this Minnesota neighborhood, you will find first-class resorts, including three of the largest in the Midwest, as well as world-class golf. Gull Lake offers everything one could ask for from boating or fishing to lodging or dining. East Gull Lake, on the southern end of the lake, offers a scenic paved trail system as well as a small seasonal airport. The Gull Lake Dam Recreation Area, at the outlet of Gull Lake in East Gull Lake, offers a glimpse into the history of the region. Burial mounds 12 complete and several partial have been discovered on the site and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Lake Shore community, on the northern end of the lake, represents nature s beauty at its finest. Beautiful wooded areas along County Road 77 offer picturesque traveling, especially during the colorful fall season. Fritz Loven Park, with the winding Stony Brook, is a great place to sit and relax. The city of Nisswa is home to Turtle Races, a community tradition dating back to the early 1960s! Each Wednesday during the summer months, families flock to Nisswa to participate in the fun that has survived the decades. Nisswa could be considered a city of traditions. Other annual events, such as the City of Lights and the Nisswa Jubilee, continue to be mainstays in the community. Hosted the Friday after Thanksgiving, the City of Lights celebration officially kicks off the Christmas holiday season in Nisswa. And of course, another tradition or trademark of Nisswa is the historically pretty good as the sign proclaims shopping. IDEAL CORNERS (HOME OF THE IDEAL SNOPROS SNOWMOBILE CLUB) This Crosslake neighborhood features dozens of lakes, including the 14 interconnected lakes of the Whitefish Chain of Lakes. In all, the Whitefish Chain includes more than 13,500 acres of water, 119 miles of shoreline, and dozens of bays and islands. The Chain offers great opportunities for boating, fishing, skiing, swimming, and so much more. Many lodging options, ranging from campgrounds to resorts, can be found on the Chain as well as many dockside restaurants. The Pine River Dam in Crosslake at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer s Cross Lake Recreation Area is a sight to see on the Whitefish Chain. You can watch the rushing water from the overlook or cast a line and try your hand at fishing. The Cross Lake Recreation Area offers many other opportunities, such as swimming, picnicking, and camping. This is one of the most picturesque communities year-round in all of Minnesota. All four seasons are thoroughly enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. Recreational opportunities are plentiful throughout the seasons. Crosslake is home to many popular festivals, including WinterFest and Crosslake Days, but the most popular event is the St. Patrick s Day Parade and Celebration. Interesting shops, great golfing and inviting restaurants are another characteristic of this community. The eastern portion of the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway travels through Crosslake and Manhattan Beach, along the Whitefish Chain of Lakes. The Crosslake Historic Log Village takes you back in time to the 1800s. Check out the general store, tourist camp, logger s camp, and more. The Chamber s Welcome Center in Crosslake can be found at the corner of Route 66 and County Road Three. MERRIFIELD (HOME OF THE MERRIFIELD MARATHONS) Merrifield is a part of Lake Edwards Township which can be found only nine miles north of Baxter, Brainerd. The original settlement was named after William Merrifield; who's main occupation was a practicing veterinarian. There are many unique businesses and a park right off of Hwy 25. The Merrifield Marathon s Clubhouse is adjacent to the Paul Bunyan State Trail. PEQUOT LAKES (HOME OF THE PEQUOT LAKES BRUSH PILOTS) Pequot Lakes and Breezy Point are at the heart of this neighborhood, which is well-known for its many festivals that attract more visitors to the region than year-round residents! This neighborhood hosts Stars & Stripes Days and Bean Hole Days each summer, Taste of Pequot every fall, and Ice Fest in the winter. Paul Bunyan made his mark in this region. He rested his bobber on the Pequot Lakes water tower and would keep an eye on it as he kicked back and relaxed in his oversized chair. His trail, the Paul Bunyan State Trail, runs through the city of Pequot Lakes and runs north of Bemidji and south to Brainerd. This community also is home to the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway a nationally recognized scenic byway with 50 miles of paved, wide-shouldered county roads, meandering around the Whitefish Chain of Lakes. The region also is known for its destination shopping, with many unique stores offering myriad products to appeal to many tastes and interests. On Thursdays during the summer in Pequot Lakes, shopping reaches another level with Market in the Park, a hybrid of a farmers market, craft fair and food fest, to complement the many stores in the community. The Chamber s Pequot Lakes Welcome Center can be found in Trailside Park. There is much to see and do in the northern regions of Crow Wing County and southern Cass County. PONTO LAKE TOWNSHIP (HOME OF THE PONTO KNIGHT RIDERS) Ponto Lake Township is located about 8 miles East of Backus, Minnesota. The township has some of the nicest lakes in the area within it's boundaries. Ponto Lake Township was formed on August 10, 1906 by the Cass County Board of Commissioners. The first town meeting was held at the Ponto Lake School on the West side of Ponto Lake on August 25th, LINCOLN LAKES AREA (HOME OF THE LINCOLN LAKES SNOWMOBILE CLUB) - Adopted Club to help host the MnUSA Winter Rendezvous The Lincoln Lakes Area Snowmobile Club is celebrating its 20th year during the 2018/19 season. The club, located in NW Morrison County, was started to develop trails to connect the Morrison County trail system to the Todd County trails for the many snowmobilers in the area. The club now maintains and grooms these trails as a part of the Morrison County system.
