Most recently, Money Magazine named Louisville #1 in 2009, and then in an unprecedented action again named Louisville #1 in its 2011 Best Place to Live issue. Many things contribute to this exemplary quality of life and positive economic condition including 1,700 acres of open space, dozens of great eateries, a thriving arts scene, great schools, wonderful neighborhoods and a diverse mix of employment opportunities. As the Money article noted, Add in dry, clear weather, little crime, good health care, low taxes, and Louisville is pretty tough to beat. City of Louisville, Colorado, incorporated in 1882, lies in Boulder County roughly six miles east of the City of Boulder and 25 miles northwest of Denver. The City Council consists of six Council members and the Mayor. At this time, the City owns, either alone or in conjunction with other governmental entities, approximately 1700 acres of designated open space. (Source: louisvilleco.gov) History With the opening of the Welch Mine in 1877, Louisville began to take shape. Within a couple of years, many other coal mines were launched and the Town of Louisville was incorporated in Unlike other coal mining towns that were controlled by a single local mining company, Louisville s residents enjoyed a democratic community and worked for a variety of mines. Over the years, thirty different mines operated in Louisville. The Acme Mine produced almost two million tons of coal from mines located directly below the town that exists today. Demand for coal dwindled after World War II ended and the last of the local Louisville mines closed in 1952.

5 1326 S 96th Attractions Louisville Historical Museum The Louisville Historical Museum is held within four historic buildings built in the early 1900s. The main building, located in the old Jacoe store, offers a glimpse into Louisville s past with exhibits that contain historical photographs, documents and artifacts including coal mining equipment. The Tomeo House is outfitted in furnishings from the era of the Louisville coal miners. Historic Downtown Shopping and Dining The heart of Louisville, the historic downtown houses over 100 businesses and is known for great shopping, fabulous food and a variety of professional services. The downtown area also hosts a thriving art and music community. Louisville Street Faire Hosted in downtown, the Louisville Street Faire is held each Friday night throughout the summer. Enjoy long summer evenings with excellent food, live music, shopping and family-friendly activities. Fall Festival Louisville s Fall Festival is held on Labor Day weekend each year. The festival features a Labor Day parade, car show, dog show, pie contest as well as great food and a variety of local vendors. In addition, the festival hosts the coal Creek Crossing 5K, 10 Mile and Kids Fun Run.

WinterSkate is open during the winter season in Louisville s Historic Downtown at the Steinbaugh Pavilion. Horse-drawn carriage rides are also available throughout the season. Louisville Recreational Center The Louisville Recreational Center offers an array of fitness activities for all ages as well as meeting rooms that are available for rental. The Rec Center features a large indoor pool complete with a diving well, water slide and children s adventure park. Weight rooms, racquetball courts and a fitness studio are just a few of the many highlights. In addition to the facilities, the Louisville Recreational Center offers sports and other activities for children, adults and seniors. Coal Creek Golf Course Known for its panoramic views of the Rocky Mountain Front Range, Louisville s Coal Creek Golf Course challenges golfers with a variety of water obstacles and elevation changes. The 18-hole course offers four sets of tees for different skill levels. Louisville Farmers Market Held in historic downtown every Saturday in the summer, the Louisville Farmer s Market features many local farms as well as a handful of other local vendors. Patrons enjoy a variety of fruits and vegetables as well as coffee, wine, salsa, tamales, baked goods and more.
