By Bill Selsky, LIBC President In no particular order, here are some up and coming things with LIBC: Aug.10 is the Club Picnic from Eisenhower Park. This may George Cymbalsky s last hurrah. George took over the picnic years and years ago. He was helping out the previous guy, went to pick-up food and found out there was nothing left for him. He said he could do a better job, and there was no argument. He could and he did, greatly expanding the picnic to, well, a picnic, from hero sandwiches and cold cuts. He was really ready to give it up this year, but Mary persuaded him that we needed a year s notice. Thanks, Mary! And thanks, George! Parking lot 5, Birches Picnic area. The question is who will take it over for George has big shoes to fill. We will accept all sizes, though. You may have seen it all ready, but we do have a new jersey design, a bike jersey I mean. I am not naming names. If it has not appeared on any of the Yahoo sites yet, it will soon. It is a father-daughter thing, though, with the daughter being the trained designer, and the proud father asking if he can post it. I ve seen it and think it s great! Hopefully, you will see it and feel the same. Production time, it has been my experience, is around six-weeks. The cost is, with a 10-order minimum, fairly reasonable. See more information on page 5. The annual LIBC Vermont Labor Day Weekend. Details elsewhere in this newsletter, but this always fills up. Some years, we have had spill over to nearby motels and inns because the Blue Gentian rooms disappear. The buffet breakfasts and dinners do also. As for those Vermont hills, mountains they are somewhat easier in September than they might be in say March or April, but still challenging, nonetheless. Even so, the Saturday ride is really kind of rolling, nothing than any C, C+, B-< B or A rider can t do. The Windham Mountain challenge, so popular for all these years as part of the Sunday ride, is also conquered by a diverse group of riding abilities. Not me, though, I usually opt for a hard-packed dirt road out of Grafton. It is still challenging, not because of the dirt, which is certainly rideable, but because some of the middle parts of the road have some hilly climbs also. It is about 15 miles less than the route most take and maybe 35 less than what the A s sometimes do. We do seem to be venturing more and more off Long Island for some of our rides each month. Connecticut and Westchester are on the ride schedules fairly frequently, and, NYC and Brooklyn, sometimes. If you can see the world by bike, you can head to all kinds of locales. And speaking of seeing the world by bike, we welcome back Daniel Goldschmidt from his 50-day cross country ride. If you have followed his blog and Facebook postings, you know he has had some very long mileage days, but accomplished something that many of us are envious of. Will biking on LI ever seem the same? Information for the next bulletin needed by: AUGUST 15, 2014 ALL Until SEPTEMBER 30, 2014

Pfau The jerseys were designed by Brittany Pfau, 20 year old daughter of Andrew Pfau. She is a graphic design major at the University of Delaware (and she works cheap). It would be nice to see our members in matching club jersey's-even if only on large organized rides- as it helps to brand the club and create a larger awareness of the club. The process was having the members select a new updated 2014 short sleeve club jersey. One style, in 5 different color schemes, was ed to all members on the yahoo group to see what they prefer. The new design has the words "Long Island Bicycle Club on the front, LIBC and a Logo of LI on each sleeve, and the club slogan "We Just Ride" with the club website on the back. The Yahoo Group has the winning color with the current version incorporating changes from Daniel G, Gerri W, Doug Beards - etc. The LI map is gone replaced with the year that the club was established - Est and the word Ride is now larger than the we Just. We are now ready to take orders. The jersey s come in the following sizes: Men s short sleeve jersey, full zipper, elastic waistband, Club Fit - XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL Women s- short sleeve jersey, full zipper, Club Fit, no elastic waistband, XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL Price will be $ Please call or me with questions.
