1 2018 Me & My Guy Information Girl Scouts of Central Indiana is happy that you will be part of the 2018 Me & My Guy program at Camp Na Wa Kwa! We hope your experience will be a valuable one. Camp Open House Camp Open House for Na Wa Kwa will be on Sunday, June 10 from noon until 4 p.m. Parents and girls are invited to visit and get acquainted with camp and the camp staff. This will give you a chance to check out camp and meet the people who work there. We hope you plan to join us at open house! Program Me and My Guy is for girls and their favorite male adult. This weekend is designed to help you relax and enjoy outdoor living at Camp Na Wa Kwa with your favorite girl. Planned activities will be available for you to participate in daily, but you are free to sleep in and enjoy time with your favorite girl on your own. Should you chose to join us for scheduled activities, please be courteous to the staff and arrive on time. We plan a certain amount of time for each activity; waiting on latecomers will disrupt the day s events. NOTE: If a parent or guardian will not be attending with their camper, they MUST sign the attached Challenge Adventure Program Participation Agreement in order for a camper to participate in the high ropes course. Campers must be 9 and older to climb and zip line. Adults are not permitted to climb or zip. Transportation Please plan to arrive Friday, June 29 between 5-6p.m. and to depart Sunday, July 1 any time before noon. If you need to arrive later, please notify Kate Weidner. Written directions to camp and map are included on pages 3 and 4 of this packet. Packing List Pack enough clothing suitable for varying weather for two nights/three days (with extras just in case), plus a sleeping bag (or bedroll), one twin-size fitted and flat sheet, pillow, sit-upon, jacket, water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray, raincoat, flashlight, and personal hygiene items. Comfortable athletic shoes or closed-toed sandals you don t mind getting wet and/or muddy are recommended. Don t forget your swimsuit and towel! Alcohol, firearms and smoking are not allowed. Medication Each individual adult is responsible for their own camper s medication; be aware that there are well-stocked first aid kits in each of the units. 1

2 Accommodations You will be staying in one of five units. Each unit s lodging is unique, but all have running water, pit latrines, shelter house, and fire pits. Sleeping arrangements have been pre-determined prior to your arrival, so please remember to set a good example and be gracious and flexible with your lodging assignment. There are flushing toilets in Conley Lodge and showers in the pool house, which are open 24 hours a day. You are welcome to use the kitchen, but we ask that you speak with our kitchen manager at check in prior to doing so. Meals All meals will be provided on Saturday. However, we DO NOT provide dinner on Friday evening or lunch on Sunday upon check-out. Snacks will be available in the lodge throughout the weekend for campers to consume as they wish. Saturday s dinner will be a cookout at the campsite, weather permitting. We will have coffee and ice water available throughout the day in Conley Lodge. Additionally, for your convenience, we ensure that water coolers are placed in each camp site before bed time. If your family has special dietary needs or food allergies, please let us know PRIOR to your arrival at camp. The kitchen at Na Wa Kwa is not allergen free. Trading Post This year, campers will be able to purchase small items from our trading post (cash, card, and check are accepted). Prices range from.50 to $18.00 depending on the item. Available items for purchase may include: frozen novelties, candy, soda, small games, along with selected Camp Na Wa Kwa-branded items like shirts, water bottles, etc. The list of items is subject to change weekly depending on availability. Cell Phones Cell phones often do not work at camp due to limited coverage. We ask that all adults refrain from using their cell phones during scheduled activities. If you need to use your phone, please excuse yourself or make prior arrangements with others so you are not disturbing our programs. Camp T-shirts and Recognitions A camp T-shirt and camp patch are included in the camp fee. All campers (adults included) will receive a T- shirt and patch at check-in. Please make sure to complete your T-shirt size on your registration. Refund Procedures The fee for camp is not designed to cover the entire cost of the camp stay. The remaining cost is covered by various funding sources that support Girl Scouts. The refund policy is as follows: 1. Refunds are only given if cancellation is made two weeks prior to camp session. 2. $25 of the fee is retained for handling charges. 3. Refunds will not be given for no-shows or campers leaving early due to personal reasons, including homesickness, sports, family vacations, etc. Cancellation For cancellations please contact the Camping Services Department at or We look forward to seeing you at camp! 3 Directions to Camp Na Wa Kwa 7865 E. County Road 300 N, Poland, IN Please do not rely on your GPS system to find camp! Most GPS systems take you to the wrong address. Follow these directions for the most accurate routes to camp. If you are lost or need help finding camp, please call Traveling from the west on I-70: Exit at State Road 59 (Exit #23). Proceed south ¼1/4 mile to State Road 42 and turn east (left). Drive 10 miles to Poland. In town, turn south (right) on the blacktop road at the corner of the hardware store and bank. Go south one mile to the brick church on the right. Turn west (right) on the road before passing the church. The road is between the parking lot and the church. Go ½ 1/2 mile west. The camp entrance is on the right. Traveling from the east on I-70: Exit at State Road 231 (Exit #41). Proceed south through Cloverdale approximately 3 miles to State Road 42. Turn west (right) and drive miles to Poland. In town, turn south (left) on the blacktop road at the corner of the hardware store and bank. Go south 1 mile to the brick church on the right. Turn west (right) on the road before passing the church. The road is between the parking lot and the church. Go 1/2 mile west. The camp entrance is on the right. Traveling from the south on U.S. 41 to Terre Haute: In Terre Haute, turn east on I-70 and follow directions above for Traveling from the west on I-70. Traveling from the north on State Road 59: Drive south through Brazil to the intersection of State Road 42 at the Brazil Truck Stop. Turn east (left) and drive 10 miles to Poland. In town, turn south (right) on the blacktop road at the corner of the hardware store and bank. Go south 1 mile to the brick church on the right. Turn west (right) on the road before passing the church. The road is between the parking lot and the church. Go ½ ½1/2 mile west. The camp entrance is on the right. Traveling from the north on State Road 59: At the intersection of State Road 42 at the Brazil Truck Stop, turn east (right) and drive 10 miles to Poland. In town, turn south (right) on the blacktop road at the corner of the hardware store and bank. Go south 1 mile to the brick church on the right. 5 Camp Na Wa Kwa Challenge Adventure Program Participation Agreement Participant name: Age: Instructions: Please read this form carefully. Each participant and their parent must sign this agreement before the program begins. Without all appropriate signatures, the individual may not be permitted to participate in the program. I understand that my participation in programs offered by the Challenge Adventure Program at Girl Scouts of Central Indiana is based on the Participation is Voluntary philosophy. I recognize that the program is designed to use experiential, engaging, teaching techniques, but that my participation is purely voluntary. At all times I will choose my level of participation in any activity. I understand the facilitators of Girl Scouts of Central Indiana have received extensive training, and will work to protect the emotional and physical safety of myself and/or my child. I understand that climbing, high ropes courses, ground initiatives, and other activities in the Challenge Adventure Program for which I and/or my child have enrolled, entails certain risks. I elect to participate in spite of these risks. Therefore, for myself/my child, I knowingly and voluntarily assume all risks involved in my participation, and do hereby release Girl Scouts of Central Indiana and its members, trustees, officers, employees, independent contractors and agents from any and all liability, damages, costs and expenses arising out of or relating to bodily or psychological injury, loss of life or personal property that may occur as a result of participating in this program. I have read and understand and accept the terms and conditions stated herein and acknowledge that this agreement shall be effective and binding upon the parties during the entire period of participation in the said program. I grant the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana and persons acting through them, the right to use, reproduce, assign, and/or distribute photographs, films, videotapes, and sound recordings of myself or my child for use in materials they may create.
