1 CBC News SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER 2014 Explanation of Grading Codes used in the CBC News Each walk is graded on expected difficulty, the distance proposed and the prevailing terrain. G3 Very easy walk (Short and/or flat) G1 Harder (Longer walk over more difficult terrain) G2 Medium (Moderate exertion) G1+ Difficult (Longer, more hilly, or technical) G2+ Medium (Less favourable terrain) G0 Very difficult (Exploratory) Abseil Trips are graded on a similar basis but using an A as the prefix these walks should only be attended by experienced walkers who have attended a club abseil practice day and who have the necessary equipment Grade 2 is recommended for prospectives and new walkers Explanation of Meeting Arrangements used in the CBC News Strathfield: The Everton Rd entrance of Strathfield Railway Station (the Parramatta Rd side nearest Platform 1) Glenbrook: Katoomba: MT: Train: DN: is the meeting place for the walk. This allows for vehicles to be rationalised. In the parking area adjacent to the rear of the Caltex Service Station, Great Western Hwy. Glenbrook. In the railway station car park on the Great Western Hwy side of the railway adjacent to Gearins Hotel. Indicates Motor Transport (private vehicles) is required to and from the walk. When travelling with others, please offer to share the cost of the journey, including motorway tolls. Remember the cost of operating a motor vehicle can be up to 40 /km. Indicates train travel is used to and from the walk. Departure time refers to Central. Members generally travel in the second carriage. Each member must check the train times prior to the walk due to possible track work. Indicates that the leader must be contacted to register for the walk. The number denotes the number of days notice prior to the walk. e.g. "DN 3" means that at least 3 Days Notice must be given to the leader. Visitors may not attend walks without the inviting member being present. Prospective members may attend day walks but must consult the Membership Secretary before attending camp trips. All walkers MUST carry a working torch, first aid kit, matches, water, emergency food & protective clothing. Leaders are the recognised authority on all walks, and act on behalf of the club. Information for Leaders Leaders must check that the walk area is open on the day and if needs be must obtain entry permission. 2 CBC News September October 2014 Page 2 Walks Programme If you feel the walks programme lacks variety or interest then feel free to offer to lead walks on future programmes. The committee assembles the walks programme from walks submitted by members so it is up to all members to submit walks and ensure that the club has a full and interesting walks programme. Acknowledgement and Waiver The Catholic Bushwalking Club Inc ( Club ) advises all intending and actual participants in any of the Club s activities that any or all of those activities may be considered adventure sport require appropriate physical fitness, competence and equipment and may involve an element of risk. Participants in any Club activity do so voluntarily and in the knowledge of the fitness, competence and the equipment required and fully understanding and accepting the risks involved. All participants acknowledge that they take part in such activities at their own risk and will hold none of the Club, the leader(s), others involved in organising or assisting with the activity or any of the other participants in an activity responsible for any death, injury or loss that may result to them or to others through participation in the activity whether due to negligence, misadventure, accident or otherwise. Those inviting visitors on activities or deliberately or otherwise making the CBC News or details of Club activities available to others indemnify the Club and agree that in doing so they have made the terms of this Acknowledgement and Waiver clear and that those participating in an activity as a consequence do so in full acceptance of this Acknowledgement and Waiver.
