5 APPENDIX B: COMMUNITY OUTREACH Community Services Report - May The following functions/community meetings were attended by members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police during the period of Thursday May 1, to Saturday May 31, : Safety Presentation: On Thursday May 1,, P.C. Leon attended the Ontario Early Years Centre in Waubaushene and gave a presentation to the parents and children in attendance. Conference: Between May 3-5,, Insp. Philbin attended a conference in Montreal for police executives. Crime Stoppers: On Monday May 4,, P.C. Leon attended the North Simcoe Community Crime Stoppers meeting held at the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment. Safe Kids Week: On Monday May 5,, P.C. Leon attended a meeting held at the Midland Ontario Early Years Centre with regards to Safe Kids Awareness Week which is scheduled from May 26-June 1,. The focus this year is Pedestrian Safety. Safe and Sober Meeting: On Tuesday May 6,, P.C. Leon attended the Safe and Sober Committee Meeting held at Southern Georgian Bay detachment. Bicycle Safety Presentation: On Wednesday May 7,, P.C. Leon spoke to the First Penetanguishene Cubs regarding bicycle safety. North Simcoe Policing Authority: On Wednesday May 7,, S/Sgt. Bell attended the North Simcoe Policing Authority Meeting held at the Tangle Creek Golf Club located in Essa Township. Community Service Officers Meeting: On Thursday April 17,, P.C. Leon attended the Central Region Community Service Officers held in Bolton. Auxiliary Police Graduation: On Friday May 9,, Insp. Philbin and Auxiliary S/Sgt. Reynolds attended the O.P.P. Auxiliary Police Graduation. Youth Dance: On Friday May 9,, Sgt. Marshall and P.C. Milne attend a youth dance held in Port McNicoll. Counterfeit Currency Presentation: On Friday May 9,, P.C. Leon attended Ste. Marie Among the Hurons and provided a presentation on Counterfeit Currency, handling of currency and safety related issues to the summer staff. Results Driven Policing Meeting: On Wednesday May 14,, S/Sgt. Bell attended the monthly Central Region Results Driven Policing Meeting.

6 Truth and Consequences: On Wednesday May 14, P.C. Leon attended the first annual Truth and Consequences held at Midland Secondary School and presented with P.C. Deb Brown of the Midland Police Service. Law Enforcement Torch Run: On Thursday May 15,, Southern Georgian Bay O.P.P. officers along with members of the Midland Police Service and the Central North Correctional Centre participated in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. Portorama Volleyball Challenge: On Thursday May 15,, P.C.'s Brady, Proulx, Milne, Preston, Leon, Hollet, Chiasson, Bierworth, Brooks, Laurin, Sgt. Marshall and S/Sgt. Bell attended the annual Portorama Volleyball Challenge held at Port McNicoll Public School. Driver Reviver Station: On Friday May 16,, S/Sgt. Ferguson attended the Driver Reviver Station hosted by the Southern Georgian Bay Community Policing Committee. Code Red Drill: On Tuesday May 20,, S/Sgt. Bell and P.C. Leon attended Port McNicoll Public School and assisted with a Code Red Drill. Rotary Luncheon: On Wednesday May 21,, P.C.'s Adamson and Leon attended the Midland Rotary Club Luncheon and P.C. Adamson received a donation of $ to assist with the DARE Program being delivered in Tiny, Tay and Georgian Bay Townships. VCARS Training: On Wednesday May 21,, P.C. Leon attended the VCARS training and gave a presentation on Diversity. Regional Community Service Officers Meeting: On Thursday May 22,, P.C. Leon attended the Central Region Community Service Officers Meeting held in Orillia. VCARS Graduation: On Thursday May 22,, Sgt. Marshall attended the VCARS graduation ceremony. Presentation of Police Car: On Thursday May 22,, P.C. Adamson provided a presentation to the kindergarten students at Ecole St. Louis using a police car after they toured the fire hall. Transportation Meeting: On Thursday May 22,, P.C. Milne attended a meeting regarding ongoing bus related concerns involving the students from Waubaushene Pines Elementary School. Also present were parents of the children involved and representatives from First Student Bus Lines. Pike Derby: On Saturday May 23,, P.C. Hobson attended the Southern Georgian Bay Hunters and Anglers Pike Derby and supplied them with safety whistles and related boating material. Brownie and Beaver Printing: Sgt. Thompson printed the Brownies and Beavers and also spoke to them on personal safety and stranger danger.

7 DARE Graduations: On Monday May 5, P.C. Adamson held DARE Graduation Ceremonies at St. Ann's Elementary School and was assisted by P.C. Leon. On Wednesday May 7,, P.C. Adamson held DARE Graduation Ceremonies at Burkevale Protestant Public School and was assisted by P.C. Leon. Safe Kids Awareness Week May 26- June 1, : On Monday May 26,, P.C. Leon attended Wyevale Central Public School and spoke to the primary grades on this year's theme "Pedestrian Safety" He then assisted with a safety audit of a nearby neighbour with the grade 3-4 class and there teacher. Afterwards a speed check style spot check was set up and brochures were handed out. Tuesday May 27, : Ontario Early Years Centre - Victoria Harbour-Safety Talk and Walk - P.C. Leon. Wednesday May 28, : Ontario Early Years Centre - Port McNicoll - Safety Walk and Talk - P.C.'s VanAllen and Neller. Speed Checks: On Wednesday May 28,, P.C. Loring set up a speed check point on Poyntz Street in Penetanguishene and distributed Safe Kids Week information booklets. The following day P.C. Neller did the same thing on Talbot St. in Port McNicoll. National Days of Action Pow-Wow: On Thursday May 29,, Auxiliary S/Sgt. Reynolds attended a National Days of Action Pow Wow that was held at Penetanguishene Secondary School. Elementary School Enhancement Program: While the DARE program is being taught by P.C. Adamson, P.C. Leon is spending time at the schools and is delivering presentations on Child Safety, Internet Safety and the Simulator. Career Fair P.C. Roch Perreault attended the Nouvelle Alliance Career Fair in Barrie Television Interviews: Roger's Television: Friday May 2, : Roger's Interview and Ride-a-Along Re: Spring Seatbelt Campaign; P.C.
