2 4-H Chairperson - Sam Lower 4-H CLUBS BUILDING SHOWCASE & DEMONSTRATIONS Missouri 4-H Youth Programs are under the direction of University of Missouri Extension and Lincoln University. Learning by Doing is the basis of 4-H work, and each year thousands of young Missourians between the ages of 8 and 19 do just that. 4-H members make the items displayed in the Family Exhibits Center or raise and train animals on display in the animal shows. The Fair provides a showcase for the skills and knowledge that 4-H members have gained through their 4-H experiences. Clover Kids ages 5-7 may also exhibit up to three items in the Family Exhibit Center and receive a green participation ribbon. Besides developing practical skills and knowledge, 4-H ers are developing life skills. Under the leadership of caring adult volunteers, 4-H members learn to make sound decisions, work cooperatively in groups and develop a sense of self-worth and accomplishment. 4-H also fosters leadership, as older youth share their talents with younger 4-H ers. EXHIBIT LIST AND GUIDELINES 1. Items by 4-H members should reflect the skills they have learned in their 4-H project, the needs and interests of the 4-Her, and quality workmanship. Use the 4-H project literature and the "Clover" for exhibit ideas and criteria. 2. Exhibits are displayed at the risk of the individual 4-H member. The 4-H staff and Laclede County Fair Board are not responsible for loss or damage to items H members may exhibit only in projects in which they are enrolled in the current 4-H year. Items exhibited must be in the current year and must be the work of the 4-H member submitting the exhibit. 4. A member is limited to two exhibits per project. Exhibitors may not duplicate entries in any category. (Such as enter chocolate chip cookies in 4-H Division and enter chocolate chip cookies in Youth Division.) 5. Where the exhibit list states, "any item," the 4-H member may display any item in that project. This includes notebooks, file cards, photo displays, posters, or educational displays. Regardless of project, the following dimensions must be used. Items which do not comply with size or other specifications will not receive a premium or ribbon. When the exhibit complies with these specifications, it will also meet requirements for the Ozark Empire Fair and State Fair - if project is selected to advance. Poster - No larger than 14" x 22"; flat only; do not fasten three-dimensional items to the poster. Photo display All photos must be mounted on an 11 x14 mat board, not to exceed 1/8 in thickness. Materials such as poster board or foam core board are not acceptable mounting materials. Photographers may mount the photograph to the mat board using as acceptable adhesive or approved corner mounts. No captions, titles or writing on the mat board. The picture should tell the story

3 Margins are at the discretion of the photographer. No photos using glass and/or wooden, brass, plastic frames, etc. To protect exhibits from dust and moisture, photos may be placed in a two-gallon zip-lock style bag. Photos not meeting these guidelines will not be displayed, receive premiums or ribbons. Photo stories should follow the above guidelines and consist of no more than 4 photographs. Include name, address and county on back of photo. For definitions and the complete guidelines governing photography exhibits, please see Exhibits that do not adhere to these guidelines will not be eligible for judging. These exhibits will not receive premiums or ribbons. Educational display - Must not exceed 11 inches in height, 12 inches in depth (front to back) and 14 inches in width. Must include three-dimensional items and stand-alone. (Posters and display boards with items taped to them do not qualify as an educational display.) Plexiglas or plastic covers are preferred. Working models - Items such as model wildlife plots, cut-away engines, or other similar displays should require floor space no larger than 14" x 22". Decorated Cakes - The use of forms or pans is recommended. When multi-tiered cakes are, send only the top layer of the cake. Space is not available for large multi-sectioned cakes. Cake boards should not exceed 1 margin on each side of cake pan or form. Must use Royal Icing or Rolled Fondant only. (No real cakes or butter creme icing - displays containing these items will be considered ineligible and will be rejected.) Note: OEF size restriction is no larger than 12 inches round or square including decoration and display board. 6. All Building exhibits must be checked in and out of the Building during established times. No early removal or checkout of exhibits is permitted. Exhibits that are not properly checked in or out of the Building will not be awarded premium money and/or ribbons. 7. Items too large for display in the Building will not be accepted for display. Determination of items to be showcased will be left to the discretion of the Building Superintendent. 8. All exhibits must have a Fair tag securely fastened to the item in a place, which is visible to fair-goers. A second identification label is required on all exhibits. This label should give name and county of the 4-H member, and be placed in an inconspicuous spot. When an exhibit includes more than one-piece, each piece must be labeled with name and county. (Examples: jacket and skirt; rocket and rocket launcher; ceramic tea set; mittens, etc., should have an identifying label on each piece.) Textile items (clothing, knitting, visual arts, etc.) should have a cloth label sewn or safety-pinned into the item as a second label.
