3 I improved so much at tennis camp last summer. The coaches were great and I made singles for my high school team this fall. Lavner Tennis Camp (ages 6-16) This camp is operated by the Lavner Tennis Academy, a first class tennis academy with its main training facility at The Cynwyd Club on the Main Line. Tennis camp offers instruction for students of all ability levels ages 6 to 16. In past summers, the camp hosted players from the Philadelphia Metro area, Reading, Allentown, the Pocono area, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Michigan, Florida, Switzerland, Germany, Russia, Korea, and China. At the camp, highly skilled tennis pros use the Lavner curriculum to teach proper swing fundamentals, footwork, and stances for each shot, in addition to constructing point play with strategy and tailoring it to specific opponents. The Lavner teaching methods have a strong history of proven success with professionally ranked tennis players on the ATP and WTA Tours, internationally, nationally, sectionally, and district ranked junior tournament players, and with players aspiring to succeed at the high school and middle school level. Camp Locations Katie F., tennis camper For our many campers who do not play competitively, but love to play the game, or just want to learn, our curriculum uses a step-by-step approach that gives our players the proper foundation to learn tennis, succeed, and continue with confidence in the sport. Tennis campers work hard, play hard, make friends, and have lots of fun! Private lessons are always available to supplement play at camp. Bright Stars Tennis Camp (ages 3-5) Also taught by the Lavner Tennis Academy, this a program designed specifically for campers ages 3-5. Let s not forget about our little ones! They deserve excellent instruction too, and what a great age to start tennis! Bright Stars campers use smaller nets, courts, and foam balls to make the game of tennis easier for immediate success. Our curriculum also incorporates dance and song into learning the proper swings, stances, and footwork for developing a solid foundation at a very young age. Ages 3 to 16 TENNIS CAMP Campers use basic math in drills and games that require them to count successful shots. Who says tennis isn t a team sport? Games are implemented which involve multiple players on a team, emphasizing the importance of teamwork. Instructed at The Cynwyd Club, on beautiful Har-Tru tennis courts (clay courts, which do not absorb the heat like hard cement courts) with lots of trees, shade, and water on every court. Tennis camp is the coolest around and is very child friendly! Breaks are taken for snacks, water, shade, tag, relay races, and water ice! 10 Video Game Programming & Design Camp Ages 6 to 14 Campers will learn how to create their own video games by using Multimedia Fusion 2. No previous experience is necessary, however more complicated projects are offered to campers based upon their age and ability. Starting from scratch, campers will begin with a single frame where they place objects, scenery, a scoreboard, and number of lives. They will then use the events editor to program how objects will behave in this environment. The game will then be expanded to multiple frames and levels. The result will be a complete multi-level arcade and/or platform game. Camp Locations In addition to using objects and scenery from Multimedia Fusion 2 campers can bring outside objects and scenery that they design into the game, or manipulate the design of objects within the Multimedia library. In this sense, campers learn not only programming logic, but also animation and design. Multilevel decision making will teach campers to consider the game as a whole, beyond just a single frame, and encourages vision and planning. Decisions will be made by the campers with the guidance of instructors. Level 1 is for beginners with little or no experience. Within the first week, campers will create their own games of Brick Breaker, Pong or Asteroids, and an adventure platform game. Campers are amazed at how quickly they can learn to make their own games from scratch, and while working through a tutorial to utilize programming and design concepts, campers are given total poetic license to create their own features and story lines. 11 Level 2 is for campers who have completed at least one to two full weeks of camp, and exhibit a strong understanding of basic principles in Multimedia Fusion 2. Expanding on the ability to create a basic platform game, campers can create games with scrolling capabilities like Lavner Jump!, a Race Car game, a Maze with walls, trap doors, and hidden treasure, a Choose Your Own Adventure game with text and many layers of levels, a Pong Game with 3 to 4 players going head to head, an Educational Game for building math skills, a Quiz Show game with amazing science facts, geography, sports, and much more Level 3 is for campers who have completed at least four full weeks of camp, and/or have 100 programming hours in Multimedia Fusion 2. Platform games are similar to the games created by the intermediate group, but level 3 campers are pushed to complete more total levels, create a more complicated story line, execute with a higher caliber of design, custom design players and enemies, and implement more complicated movement by enemies, especially bosses of levels. Campers learn and discuss the marketability of video games, and create them with this in mind. Level 3 campers are asked, at their option, to consider submitting their final product to a video game website. All campers will save their games to CDs and create a packaging design with game description, rating, and reviews. Campers not only learn how to create video games, but how to present and market them to the public. Before the camp week ends, campers will test each other s games and provide constructive feedback. Maybe best of all, campers will take home their games to enjoy with family and friends! Campers may sign up for one week or multiple weeks, as campers are always engaged in new material by advancing in curriculum. Video Game Design was my child s favorite camp of all time, not just this summer. My son worked hard on his games, and continues to improve them at home. He can t wait to come back and be in level 2 this summer. Michael S., parent 9

13 Ages 7 to 12 Magicians have practiced the art of magic for centuries, in small towns, big cities, and everywhere in between throughout the world. Magic (stage magic) is a performing art, and with the pursuit of learning magic a magician establishes a strong work ethic, values preparation, stretches creativity, gets performance experience, and gains confidence. Young Magicians Camp very excited to work hard and master that next trick! Our camp also takes a broader approach, and in addition to learning tricks and performing, young magicians will learn the interesting basics of magic history, discover the wide variety of magic, watch video clips of famous magicians from past and present, learn how to work a room, and put on a Friday performance. At camp, our young magicians will learn 2-3 magic tricks a day, review tricks from previous days to hone their skills, get a chance to perform informally all week, and formally on Friday. Although magicians usually do not share their secrets, our young magicians will have the opportunity to learn from a magician who is willing to take on young apprentices! All supplies are included. Just bring yourself, your curiosity, and excitement to learn some amazing things each day! For an awesome summer experience, join us for our Young Magicians magic camp! Campers will learn a variety of awesome card tricks, establishing the basic discipline of magic. Campers will also learn tricks like: the magic tube, changing water to ice at room temperature, a variety of vanishing coin tricks, a sliced banana (while still in the peel), magic fingers that can see, cut and restored dollar bill, sugar spear, anti-gravity water, cups and balls, and much more! Some tricks require a basic arts and crafts set up, which is very fun for campers. Although magic is not super easy, our camp establishes a curriculum that is age appropriate and challenging. Because learning magic is fun and engaging, our young magicians are Camp Locations LOCATION DATES times cost Malvern Preparatory June 17th to July 12th Full Day 9:00am to 3:30pm $440/full week School (no session July 4th) Half Days 9:00am to 11:30am or $90/full day 418 South Warren Ave. 1:00pm to 3:30pm $65/half day Bala Cynwyd, PA Lunch/BREAK: (11:30-1pm) $5-8/day for catered lunch or camper may pack a lunch. Campers will also learn about proper nutrition and diet, in addition to food and table preparation. Many students even improve their math skills without ever realizing it, while learning how to bake! Lavner creates an environment where campers are willing to express themselves through their dishes in a team-oriented and creative fashion. A bake off competition takes place every Friday with guest judges, parents, and tons of excitement! This camp is great for a one-week or multiple week stay. In fact, a lot of our campers attend for two or more weeks, as recipes are not repeated for multiple week campers. Our camp office receives tons of thank you s where their child loves to help in the kitchen! So, we see it as a win-win for everybody! The Chef was incredible. He worked at Le Bec Fin. I was nervous but he was really patient with us. The Culinary Camp combines an exciting and educational experience in a safe and fun environment. Lavner chefs are patient and encourage children of all abilities to actively partake in all of the cooking and baking lessons, while providing them the necessary kitchen skills and etiquette to achieve great results. All cuisine and desserts are made from scratch so each camper experiences the entire culinary process. PLUS: Each camper will receive a full menu of recipes for the week! 12

16 Hip Hop & Modern Dance Camp Ages 7 to 12 Join us for an amazing dance experience! Hip Hop (AM session): While learning Hip Hop, campers will enjoy working on new dance steps and moves, working with great beats, being energetic and expressive, and getting a great work out. Practice makes perfect, and you can hone your skills whether you have experience or are just starting out. The camp is high energy and super fun, but at a pace where campers have time to focus on technique. Improve your skills for yourself, for auditions, or even just to dance at parties! Modern dance gives campers the opportunity to express emotions, work together to create a performance, be ultra creative, and yes it s a great work out! Campers may choose an AM or PM session, or choose to stay the full day for both Hip Hop and Modern Dance! Music will not contain inappropriate language. Campers will work towards an all-camp performance on Friday morning, and show off their skills! Modern Dance (PM Session): Deviating from structured technique and dance steps, campers will explore the more relaxed, free style of modern dance. Campers will choose emotions they want to express in a dance and will be taught how to implement them in a performance. Once campers choose which emotions to convey in the performance, they will choose music that relates to these emotions, create their own dance steps in addition to existing steps, use a costume that relates to the dance, and pull it all together to tell a story. Expect campers to use lots of gravity, learn to fall to the floor and get up gracefully, and express total creativity. Campers will work towards an exciting, inventive Friday afternoon performance. The two greatest legal minds in the Enchanted Forest, the Evil Stepmother and the Fairy Godmother, clash in a trial that will be remembered forever after. As our wronged fairy tale characters testify, the wolf seems deserving of all that s coming. 18 Filmmaking Camp Ages 8 to 14 So you want to be in film? This is the camp for you! The ultimate goal of the camp is to teach campers how to start and complete a film project from scratch. Campers will write a scene or commercial, develop characters, film, edit, and produce a final copy. The final product can be used as a reel for aspiring actors/directors, and all of the skills learned at camp will help campers understand many aspects of working in film. This camp is a combination of scripting, acting, directing, and editing. When starting out in film, whether in front of the camera or behind the scenes, it is always important to understand and appreciate all aspects of production. Campers who get a taste of everything can decide what they like and want to pursue in the future. Campers will be grouped by age and ability level. My daughter and her friend had the best time at camp. They loved it because they experienced a bit of everything that goes into a film production. They described the instructor as super cool and smart. Jeanne P., parent Join us for a totally unique and fun summer experience where campers are super creative, challenged, and produce a final product they can be proud of and watch for years to come. 22 Day Camp at St. Peter s School Ages 3 to 12 Lavner Camps, offering many exciting specialty camps throughout the Philadelphia metro area, has now incorporated a program that combines its specialty programming into a day camp experience. With curriculum in each activity changing from week to week, campers can sign up for one to five weeks. Day camp is great, but do you remember those days as a camper when you had to participate in some activities that did not interest you? Our campers have a CHOICE. At Day Camp at St. Peter s, our Senior Campers (ages 7-12) elect their activities before arrival, and have the flexibility to change during the week if desired. At Junior Camp (ages 3-6), curriculum is not elective based, but campers do experience a variety of very high quality and interesting programming, and parents can make special scheduling requests. This well rounded approach gives our younger campers exposure to many great activities, and they will have the ability to choose electives as they enter Senior Camp. Junior Camp (Ages 3-6) At Junior Camp, campers are grouped by age and experience with an awesome curriculum of activities each day. Activities will include: tennis, basketball, Little Engineers building projects, arts & crafts, French, story time with children s classics, fun with math, culinary arts, dance, sing alongs, and much more! Morning snack time is a must and campers also get ample time for lunch and recess. Our younger campers (ages 3-4) will also receive a welldeserved nap each day after story time. Junior campers will also experience super fun all camp activities. Camp Location Campers will get visits from performers, indulge in Friday water ice parties, have talent shows, show and tell events, and color war. Everything is super fun, educational, and exciting at Junior Camp! Senior Camp (Ages 7-12) At Senior Camp, since programs offered are elective based, campers can choose to focus on certain areas, or experience a wide variety of subjects offered. For example, a camper may want to focus his/her experience on Science & Technology, or choose to have a more well rounded camp schedule that provides access to sports, sciences, the arts, and more. Activity periods tend to be longer than periods at many day camps, so our campers have more time to hone their skills. Campers are also brought together for all camp activities, in the spirit of tradition, bonding, and good old fashion fun, experiences celebrated at many traditional day camps. All camp activities may include a quiz show, magic show, robowars, video game design summit, talent show, camp karaoke, color war, and much more! You can visit the day camp webpage at lavnercamps.com for descriptions of each subject offered, and an official schedule of the all camp activities held each day from July 29th to August 30th. Check out our Senior Camp Schedule on page 21 of this booklet.
