There were no guest speakers. The financial report was ed and no one reported not getting it. Terry Burns announced that the budget was sufficient that all club members would pay $0 for today s Progressive Dinner. There was no safety report. Ride Safe, Be Aware. The Crash Trophy was officially handed over from Barry Burritt to Mack McMullin who had a tip over recently. Discussion of upcoming Sun Lakes Resort Campout (Friday 9/14/18 9/16/18). A group will meet on Friday at Zips in Airway Heights. Expect about 4-5 bikes. There will be a potluck of side dishes on Saturday. GWTA is officially out of debt as of 8/2/18. Please pay your dues to help insure that GWTA has the funds to continue doing business. GoldRush 2019 is in Medford, Oregon this coming year; July 22 thru 25. Discussion of group ride down there and back to incorporate the summer ride with GoldRush. The idea was met with some enthusiasm. A flyer was passed around advising of the Polish Folk Ensemble who will be in Spokane 9/26 and 9/27. There are dancers, singers and musicians all co-hosted by Square Dancing of Spokane. The 1

2 Wisowaty s will be hosting college students at their home. Bob and Helen Morgan announced that Bob has been selected for Honor Flight. He will go on the 9/24-9/25/18 flight. Congratulations to Bob. Wally Youmans greeted the group and expressed that he would like to see the meetings return to the first Sunday of the month. Some others expressed agreement while some didn t want to change; especially if we had to move. Upon checking with Golden Corral management, there would be no problem in moving the day of the meeting. The question will be brought up at the planning meeting next month and a proxy or prevote will be ed to all. The Progressive Dinner Ride begins today after the meeting. Jack and Cheri Loveland will be our leaders for the first leg of the ride. We will have a dinner stop at Dorothy Hobert s, another ride and then dessert at Trish and Larry Stevens. Antoinette Wisowaty provided the True/False game; won by Briana Crowley. Charlie Wisowaty won the colors drawing, $30. 50/25/25 Margie Richards and Charlie Wisowaty won $21.75 each with $43.50 going to the club. The Planning Meeting will be October 13, at the Otis Orchard Church, doors open at 5:30 p.m. It will be appetizer potluck. Coffee and Crystal lite will be available. Please send suggestions of your favorite charity to Dan Cash. The top 2-3 will be presented for vote at the planning meeting. A request for donation was received from Vanessa Behan. That will be discussed at the Planning Meeting. Directors Terry and Peggy Burns did not attend the WA State officers meeting as it was rescheduled late and they were unable to attend. Trish Stevens also volunteered to run the meeting if needed. Jeff and Margie Richards are going to London 10/13/18.for a football game!!!! The Chapter Halloween Party will be held 10/27/18 at the Otis Orchards Community church. Details will be announced. It will be a potluck; there will be prizes! 2

3 September 8 Progressive Dinner Submitted by Joe & Carol Henscheid Since this year s Progressive Dinner fell on the same day as our monthly meeting, we began with breakfast at the Golden Corral. After the meeting, Jack led us on an awesome 140-mile adventure north on 291 along Long Lake through Tum Tum to 231 up to Springdale. Then east on 292 to Loon Lake, over to Elk and Blanchard to Idaho 41 down past Spirit Lake through Rathdrum and back to Spokane. It was a beautiful day for a ride. Jack ended his ride at Dorothy s home where we enjoyed a wonderful Mexican dinner that she and her friend Tom had prepared for us. Dinner consisted of enchiladas and a taco bar plenty of food for hungry bikers! (Photo by Dan Cash) (Photo by Sheri Boorman) After dinner, Larry led us on another ride (90 miles) south on Hwy 27 past Rockford, along Valley Chapel Road and the Palouse Highway, then back to town on Dishman Mica road. 4 This was one of our best attended events of the year. We started out with 15 bikes and one car for a total of 26 riders. Adding and subtracting a few people and bikes along the way, we ended the day with 11 bikes and one car (a different car) for a total of 18 riders. A total of 26 people (members and guests) enjoyed both dinner and dessert. A big thank you to the ride coordinators and the chefs! September Sun Lakes Campout Submitted by Carol Henscheid Sitting by the fire after a long day. Another fun campout this year. Our thanks to Margie and Jeff for suggesting this new location. We had a total of 18 members in attendance for the weekend. Carly, Kyle and their two kids joined us for part of Saturday. Some brought their RV s, some their Kwik Kamps, and some stayed in cabins but everyone had a great time! An added bonus was the classic car show on Saturday. JoAnn learning how to golf! A beautiful spot to camp! Taking advantage of the beautiful weather for a round of golf (or part of a round ) 4

5 Saturday night potluck. Thanks to all the wonderful cooks in the club, we certainly never go hungry!! August 1-19 Our Trip to Sturgis Submitted by Carol Henscheid Little Bighorn Battlefield east of Billings, Montana. Also known as Custer s Last Stand Another item came off the bucket list with a trip to Sturgis in August. Joe and I were accompanied by Terry (unfortunately Peggy was unable to come as she was recovering from surgery). We left Spokane on August 1 st headed towards Belle Fourche (pronounced Bell Foosh) in South Dakota which was our base for visiting Sturgis. Experiencing the town of Sturgis during the annual motorcycle rally is certainly a different experience people watching takes on a whole new dimension! Motorcycles of every type and description as far as the eye could see. I am so glad that we went and I was so glad when we left. The entire trip was awesome we saw so much wonderful country. In 19 days, we traveled close to 3,000 miles, through 6 states, saw 4 National Parks, 2 National Monuments, 1 National Battlefield, 1 National Memorial, at least 2 State Parks, and numerous other sites. 9 Riding the Rail Manually Submitted by Trish Stevens Today the train ride is much different. Now the Lions Club has I-frames, which are open and airy, that seat four people. And the fun part is the passengers pedal the car like a bicycle, a recumbent bike. The front left seat and rear right seat have the brake control. They tell you this is not a race. And no bumper cars. The I-frame rail car, including the seats, weigh 150 pounds. When a person tries to get into the seat the car feels light and wants to slide down the rail with little effort. I found getting into the seat a little tricky at first. Once we all got in our seats and all passengers were settled we were off. And believe me, it was no race. By the time all four of us were in our seats the weight changed all perspective. Grace figured we were pedaling close to 1000 pounds down the old track. The first part of the trip, which was 3 miles to the dam and then back for a total of 6 miles. Then we had the option of going the other direction for another mile and a half one way after we got back to the station. I gotta say this was more of a workout than we anticipated. Both Larry and Dan decided we should give it up about 3/4 of a mile from the dam. Larry has scar tissue from pneumonia and had trouble breathing. Yes we were not in shape to do the 3 full miles each way. We all were getting very tired and sore leg muscles. Believe me it was quite the workout. The guys rode in an SUV back to the station and Grace, a lady Lion, and I did the turn around and pedaled back to the station. Less weight made it easier. The scenery was pleasant with glimpses of river and foliage lining the track. It was a great ride even if we were out of shape. Great sights and lots of fresh air. I would do it again. The only change I would make is to pedal my backside on the recumbent bike increasing the resistance to full over a period of time. Dan snapped a selfie of us before we actually got started on the ride. There are some members I know can make this trip without much effort. However, I think most of us are like we were that day, kinda out of shape. Who Am I??? If you know who this is, tell Carol Henscheid at the next meeting. You could win five 50/50 tickets.
