1 November 2018 Newsletter October 6, 2018 Meeting Minutes Margie Richards chaired the meeting as Terry and Peggy Burns and Dan and Grace Cash were both unavailable. Guests were Vonda Brest, WA State Director and her friend. Joel Dias was at Golden Corral for another group and had the day wrong so Margie invited him to join us. The Safety Information from Ken is to watch for deer or elk. It s hunting season and they will run. Vonda brought us up to date with the other chapters on the West Side. She agreed to continue as State Director, her staff is all of the Chapter Directors. If it can be kept simple she will continue. She reported that the camping trip to Randle was great. Lots of fun for all. The 2019 State Gathering will be held in Cashmere, at the Fairgrounds. There will be a simplified schedule to keep it more relaxed. The Gathering will be held June 28-30, There will be additional information including a possible theme for the rally coming soon. Membership issues are still being handled by Steve and Ralphine Andrus. (Chapter G members contact Joe Henscheid for membership issues, payments, cards). Helping Hands needs a director, if you are interested contact Vonda and she will direct you. There will be no Chapter Director Reviews held by State Staff, if you have a problem, she is available to help. 1

2 Margie shared some of the fun from the campout at Sun Lakes, including the infamous golf game (Joanne Moran has purchased a set of clubs.watch out). Margie suggested that a golf game should be added to our activities. Joe Henscheid will send out the 2019 calendar via for the Planning Meeting scheduled for October the Otis Orchards Community Church. It will be a potluck of appetizers and salads with the meeting to follow. There are important matters to discuss, including changing the day of the meeting from Saturday to Sunday, donation suggestions with the top favorites benefiting, as well as affirming the monthly calendar and adding or subtracting activities. There was no game, Toni Wisowaty was out of town. The 50/25/25 earned $96. Karen Nelson and Margie Richards were winners. Other prizes were won by Karen Nelson, Vonda Brest, Joel Dias, Ernie Yocom, Charlie Wisowaty and Carol Henscheid. The National Rally (Gold Rush) will be held in Medford, Oregon in Joe was wondering if this is a good time to do our summer long ride. It is a two day ride from here to Medford, then the State Rally, then home..via???? Our Halloween Party will be held October 27 th - lots of prizes, fun, food, games all the usual. Bob Morgan reported on his Honor Flight trip to Washington DC. He enjoyed it very much and got a T-shirt. He and Helen have decided to sell their bike, 1995 GoldWing 1500, Emerald Green, asking $4999. Also for sale is their Motor Home. They are asking $ Contact them if you are interested. Lyle and Alice Polack are celebrating their 8 th Anniversary as well as Alice s Birthday. Congratulations on both counts. Margie showed off the lovely queen size quilt that she made for Camille Watson. This was purchased at our yearly Auction for $75!!!! What a good deal. There is no ride today due to the rain. There may be a ride later this week or next depending on the weather. There was no Colors Drawing today. Quilt donated by Margie to auction and won by Camille Watson (Photo by Joe) September 26 Afternoon Ride Submitted by Carol & Joe Henscheid Wednesday afternoon, Terry and Peggy planned and led a ride around Lake Coeur d Alene. Ten people participated, riding 4 bikes, 1 trike, and 1 CanAm. We rode south on Highway 27 to Rockford and east on 278 to Idaho 95 then south to Plummer, east on 5 past Heyburn State Park to St. Maries. From St. Maries north to Harrison for an ice cream stop. From there north along the lake to I90 and back to Spokane. It was a perfect day for a great ride. Our thanks to Terry and Peggy for putting it together. 2

3 October 11 Afternoon Ride Submitted by Carol & Joe Henscheid A beautiful day for a ride! Joe planned and led this late fall ride. Since only Peggy and Terry were able to make the trip, it turned into a Harley ride. Those who couldn t make it missed a beautiful ride day likely one of the last of the season. After negotiating seemingly endless road construction to get out of town, we headed north along the Spokane River. We went through Medical Lake and into Cheney for an ice cream stop before heading back into Spokane Valley. The colors along the river were beautiful it was a perfect day for a ride! 4 October 17 Great Day for a Ride Through the Land of Wheat Fields Submitted by Alice Polack Leaving Grocery Outlet at 1 p.m., Lyle and Alice Polack led 11 people riding 8 motorcycles (two and threewheels) on a cruise through the hills and valleys southwest of Reardon to Harrington for a stretch break and rest stop, then on to Sprague. Along the way we went by the entrances to several lakes Williams, Amber, Badger, Rock, Chapman. Several had fond memories of fishing some of those lakes. The route took us through rich farmland, rocky basalt outcroppings, and gorgeous fall foliage at farmsteads along the way. We also saw wildlife deer, of course, and a couple of Ring-Necked Pheasant. One animal sighting was not exactly wild. A farmer was herding three of his wandering cattle home on the highway with an ATV it looked like a modern cattle drive. You can bet we slowed way down to not startle them! The final destination was The Harvester Restaurant in Spangle, though that was unplanned at the beginning. Those who chose to had an early dinner, and those with other plans headed on home. This was a day when all the elements came together to make it nearly perfect spectacular weather, great friends, excellent roads with very little traffic, and majestic scenery. Beautiful fall colors in Harrington (Photo by Carol) Sun Lakes Campout Submitted by Peggy Burns Carol already wrote a very nice article about the camp out at Sun Lakes. However, she forgot to mention the strange creatures that we saw while we were there. Below are pictures of the ones I managed to capture on film. Some of them have an amazing resemblance to some of our chapter G members. Sorry Jeff and Margie, but there are no pictures of the ones that resemble the two of you. 7 fairways. Happily, no one was bitten and most of the balls were recovered. All of us were exhausted from the extra miles of walking looking for the errant balls. The important thing about the campout was that we all had a great time and got to know some of our friends a little bit better. We are looking forward to more campouts in October 10 Rode Trip Submitted by Carol & Joe Henscheid Additionally, I wanted to tell everyone how nice it was to camp in our new Super Deluxe Red Kwik Kamp. Part of the new Kwik Kamp is in the background of the picture above. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of the interior. It was pretty sweet. We had a very comfortable bed. The only drawback was the difficulty of getting out of it. We also had electricity, heat, lights, a porta potty, food and water. Sadly, it was lacking in windows and locking mechanisms on the doors. Almost everyone at the campout had an idea of how to improve our accommodations. By the end of the campout there were plans to install a Murphy bed, shelving on wheels, windows, doors with locks, a stove, refrigerator, water tank with outdoor shower and most importantly, a hot tub. Terry pretended that he didn t like all the ideas for improvement, but I think secretly he really appreciated them and might be making plans to make the big overhaul during the winter when he has nothing to do. We really enjoyed camping at Sun Lakes. I suspect we also set a record for least number of holes completed during the longest time on the golf course. 7 of us completed 5 holes in 4 hours. We decided to take advantage of the beautiful fall weather to take a road trip up to Sherman Pass in search of fall colors this trip was in the car. We went north on Highway 395 to Kettle Falls then west on Highway 20 over Sherman Pass to Republic. After lunch in Republic, we headed south on 21, took the Keller Ferry, and on to Wilbur and back to Spokane. Although a lot of trees were gone due to recent wild fires, we were successful in our quest and saw a lot of beautiful fall colors. Beautiful fall colors on Sherman Pass I don t know if the fact that two had never golfed and most of the remainder of us had not played in many years had anything to do with the longevity of the game. Everyone had a couple of nice shots but mostly we zig zagged all over the course looking for balls in the rattlesnake infested sagebrush on both sides of the 7
