1 Inland empire chapter of back country horsemen March 2017 Saddlebags by Joel Crosby, President Sunny skies and riding weather can t come soon enough for me. Last Sunday JoAnn & I went out and groomed our horses in hopes we can ride this coming weekend ( know they will need to be brushed again, but it was cathartic for me). Hope springs eternal. In preparation for spring riding we are fortunate to have Ruth Gifford at our coming meeting from the Spokane County Noxious Weed Board to share with us weeds we need to keep from our horses here in Spokane County. I think we will all find this of interest & may save us and our horses problems that can be expensive and annoying. In our business at the meeting we will think about rides we can schedule this spring and summer. Bring your ideas and favorite rides we can organize. We need to have a fun ride in April. We had a successful booth at the Tack Swap last weekend. Scott Wiggins & Jerry Schelling did a great job organizing our booth. We had 10 people express interest in our Chapter. Vern Hopkins, Melissa Halpin, Louise Walton, Sue White, Ken & Sherrie Elliott were great hosts at the booth. Michelle Irwin is doing a super job organizing the Poker Ride. If you have not yet signed up to help let Michelle know. We have a great time putting on this ride & it is our fund raiser to support trail maintenance & our chapter activities. Important Dates March 28th,Tuesday, Monthly Meeting at 6:00 pm at Wildlife Building at 6116 N Market St (by Francis) Potluck. Presenter is Ruth Gifford of the Spokane County Weed Board on noxious weeds horses should avoid. March 18th, Saturday: BCHW Rendevous in Ellensburg. Gentlemen on Horseback Annual Banquet at Timber Creek Buffet at 5:00. April 29th, Saturday: Pre-ride for Poker Ride. 10:00am at Fishtrap. The Shoot Out at Sharp Shooters was fun last month. We had over 25 shooters. Jim Hudkins again won the presidential shoot out for the Northeast Chapter keeping the coveted trophy for another year. We now have a Web Page: inlandempirebch.org. My son Jed set up our website. A former member cancelled our former web page. This is a work in progress. Let me know things you would like posted on our web page. You can find an entry form for the Poker Ride there which can be downloaded. Don t forget the Gentlemen on Horseback banquet this Saturday evening at the Timber Creek Buffet. Happy Trails New Web Page!!!

4 GENTLEMEN ON HORSEBACK EVENT SCHEDULE AND NEWSLETTER 2017 (You should all print this and hang it on the refrigerator or tack room) Howdy and good New Year to us all!! This is looking like a great year for us in the Gentlemen On Horseback and for the United States of America! Ya I said it; looking forward to the new President and what that brings... am ready to party and say "this guy's crazy but, something has to change".. gonna be different, let er buck...sorry my 2 cents worth...on to our GOH stuff!!... ***Sad stuff first...i am really sorry to let you know that we lost our good friend, Vicky Gish last week in her battle against cancer...as I always say for these things... "We are not here to mourn her passing. We are here to honor her life and what she meant to us.."...but we weren't done with Vicki, she had a lot more rides in her...we thank her so much for her friendship and passion... she truly loved us and our outfit in the short time that she was with us...those of us that rode with her admired her greatly, hope you guys can keep up her Spirit...She is a very beloved Member of the Gentlemen on Horseback, she enriched our lives, and will truly be missed...i know she'll be riding a good mule watching over us as she joins the rest of the guys that have gone before her... together for eternity... Ok...First coming up is the Gentlemen on Horseback Annual Spring Banquet which will be held on March 18 this year at Timbercreek Grill Buffet at 5:00 on Saturday... We will again have live entertainment with Jim, great food, slide show, and lots of prizes! Bring something to donate if you think about it, we appreciate it! Spread the word about the banquet and get folks to come on down! I have the MEN'S RIDE SADDLE!! It will be at the banquet! This is a special one, this was Uncle Frank's hunting saddle in Montana for a long time, He wanted to make sure that one of the GOH guys got it. Thanks, Uncle Frank, this is a nice, nice saddle. I like ones with a story behind them...whoever is lucky enough to get this one, call Frank and visit with him about it - where he and the saddle have been...time well spent I assure you... We have lots of people coming in from out of town that stay with other members and what a time they have!! We have Lee and Susan, and Uncle Frank every year... EJ and Butch have Chet and the west coast guys...wiley and Gloria have Craig and Marisol...I mention this because it is a joy to host these folks and have them come and get to spend some time with them So if you know someone coming in make sure you beg them to stay with you. It is so much fun, lasting friends great stories and games! The GOH Men's Ride this year will be on June 11-16th with Fathers Day falling on the 18th... EJ and Chet are setting this ride up at the Nile Creek near Naches down by Yakima. We have been there twice now and it as changed some since we were there before. This was a great ride and nice camping with the river right next to us...last time a couple thousand sheep came down through the camp just for some different entertainment! It was a good time! God bless you all and keep you safe and well! Scott Wiggins, Trail Boss
