Little Fire s soulful delivery and heartfelt lyrics tell stories of love and loss, and life in Scotland. He is this year s special guest. LIKELY CELTS CHRIS DUNCAN & CATHERINE STRUTT This band of South West Victorian musos came together to fuse an unlikely blend of Scottish, Irish, reggae and jazz stylings. Fiddler Chris Duncan and pianist Catherine Strutt have been performing the traditional fiddle music of Scotland since LUKE PLUMB & KATE BURKE FIONA ROSS Luke & Kate bring their formidable instrumental skills, strong vocals and creative minds together to make groove-based, complex interpretations of traditional song. Fiona brings passion & commitment to her performance - her honest, evocative singing style showcases the richness, depth & diversity of the Scots song tradition. THE DROWSY MAGGIES DON GRIEVE & ANGELA PREISS With their harmony-filled original songs and fiery fiddle-based tunes, The Drowsy Maggies will have you on your feet in no time. Don s lifelong appreciation of Burns life and work is accompanied by Angela on flute and vocal harmonies. THE SIMPSON 3 THE NEON EFFECT The Simpson 3 will have you laughing along at hilariously terrible sibling rivalry one second, and then have your toes tapping along to crankin tunes the next. Harpist Michelle Burton, cellist Catie Martin and oboist/fiddler Jessica Foot meld their rich sonorities with craftsmanship to explore the AussieTrad musical vernacular. MELBOURNE SCOTTISH FIDDLE CLUB (MSFC) WARRNAMBOOL PIPES & DRUMS (WADPADI) The MSFC is a group of fiddle fans who meet monthly to play tunes from the Scottish diaspora. Formed in 1907, WADPADI has the record as one of the longest, continually functioning pipe bands. HOWLIN WIND MCKINNON SISTERS Howlin Wind, the international flute player and composer. Austraila s most innovative and expressive exponent of the flute. The McKinnon sisters grew up singing as a family, immersed in traditional Celtic music and the joy of shared music. PIPER JONATHAN QUAY TUNIVERSAL Jonathan started piping when he was 11, has lived and worked in Scotland and is now an awardwinning piping instructor at JQ Piping. Camperdown-based community music group Tuniversal performs songs and music from the Celtic tradition.
8 OUR STORY Our festival centres around Camperdown s Robert Burns statue. Created in Scotland in 1830, the statue is the only one to have been based exclusively on the earliest known portrait of Burns. Early Western District settler W.A Taylor gifted the statue to the community of Camperdown in 1883 where it was placed in the Camperdown Public Park (Botanic Gardens). It remained here for more than 125 years. The statue was already in need of restoration when in 2009, it was vandalised. Following the attack, the statue was moved to a secure location by Corangamite Shire so that its restoration and future protection could be assessed. Local residents joined with supporters from across the globe to fundraise to restore the statue and have it placed in a location where it could be safe and appreciated by future generations. The Robert Burns statue can be viewed at the Civic Centre in Camperdown (181 Manifold Street), Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. The Civic Centre will remain open over the festival weekend for viewing access.
