14 About the Performers... Chris Sherburn and Denny Bartley have been bringing their unique sound to audiences across Europe and America since the early 1990s, when a chance meeting at a music session created one of folk music's most enduring partnerships. Known for their soul stirring songs, exhilarating tunes and a love of the craic, Chris (concertina) and Denny (guitar and vocals) ensure that no two concerts are ever the same. Founder members of the band Last Night's Fun which received international acclaim and a loyal fan base over 11 years together, the duo are now joined by the wonderful fiddle player and singer Emily Sanders. Emily brings magic accompaniment and beautiful harmonies Phil Underwood and Nancy Potts. Canals of Old England is a new show written and performed by award winning folk musician and writer Phil Underwood on melodeon and concertina with acclaimed folk musician Nancy Potts on fiddle. Phil was trained for the stage by the War Horse production at the National Theatre and has been performing for over 40 years. He has played Broadstairs Folk Week several times as well as appearing on BBC Breakfast, Songs of Praise and Robson Green s Tales of the Coast with the Fishwives Choir, and Wembley Arena with Bill Bailey. Nancy toured Northern America with Morris Offspring and has performed at Sidmouth International Folk Festival, the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Festival Hall and the Royal Opera House. Expect a lively, musical and heartfelt show which will make you laugh, cry, think and sing along. David Gibb is an award-winning songwriter and story teller on a mission to create great music for children and families. David's music has been played on BBC Radios 1,2,3,4 and 6 and he has performed at the Glastonbury Festival. He has played over 400 concerts and been nominated for a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award. David's album Letters Through Your Door includes guest appearances from some of the biggest names in British folk, including Nancy Kerr.
15 About the Performers... Graham Bellinger has been performing at folk clubs and festivals for 40 years. He has performed in community events, socials and parties and on local radio. He has played more pub gigs than he cares to remember and has composed and performed music for dramatic productions. The Hungry Horse Acoustic Club meets at the Whitby Club every Thursday evening. One of the leading acoustic music venues in the Wirral, it is organised by John & Angie Owen who also mastermind the very successful annual Wirral Folk festival (although they are taking a well-earned break in 2018). The Hungry Horse books monthly national and local guests with other nights featuring floorsingers and showcase spots for local artists. Visiting listeners, singers and musicians are always made very welcome. The Old Firm. Nick Mitchell, Chris Lee and Dave Russell are the founding members of Chester folk band Full House and have been residents at the Raven Folk Club since the 1980s. In the 1990s the trio was the regular Full House line-up and toured nationally on the UK folk scene. In the intervening years, all three have collaborated with many other local & national musicians, bringing a richness of experience and influences to the rejuvenated trio. Now Nick, Chris and Dave are back in action, ageing disgracefully with music full of traditional and contemporary tunes, stories and choruses and beer. The Raven Folk Club was founded in 1978, and has run continuously on Sunday evenings since then, based within the city walls of Chester since the 1980s. Its current venue is the Bear and Billet pub, a building dating from 1664, and many a well-known name from the British folk scene has trodden its ancient boards. The club has monthly concert nights with national guests, interspersed with singers nights open to all. The club encourages all forms of acoustic music and has a proud tradition of encouraging singer-songwriters and young artists.
