1 May 1, 2011 Volume 24, No. 148 Home Owners Association Country Lakes Co-Op News The HOA held our regular meeting on Monday April 4, It was a short business meeting with a pleasant open forum after to discuss concerns and questions about our park. All of the pertinent issues that were discussed have been addressed. The HOA decided to suspend the regular May meeting because of the number of members leaving for their northern homes. Our next regular meeting will be Monday October 3, 2011 at 7:00 PM. For all of our neighbors heading north for the summer please have a safe journey and a pleasant summer. Those of us remaining for the summer look forward to seeing you at our October meeting. Please don t forget the Resident s Activities Club s suggestion box located on the mail table at the clubhouse. Any requests, suggestions and even complaints are welcome. Our special share promotion which ended Mar. 31, 2011 was a success story. Upon finalization, it increased our shareholders numbers by 11. The Co-Op would like to apologize for the lack of yard maintenance, mowing. Transactions between mowing companies which we had no control over was the culprit. This is being closely monitored. There will be two Board meetings in May. A Shareholders Input Forum where concerns and questions can be addressed, possibly as part of the upcoming Board agenda. This meeting will be at 2:00PM Monday, May 9th, 2011 at Clubhouse II. Then the regular Board meeting will be at 6:00PM Mon. May 16, 2011 also at Clubhouse II. To all of our seasonal residents who migrate north for the summer, we wish you good health and a great summer. Fall will come quickly and we will see you all again soon. On Wednesday, March 30 a group of Red Hatters met at the club house and gave the kitchen an excellent Spring cleaning. They not only cleaned the inside and outside of every cabinet and drawer, they washed the contents if they needed it, pitched mismatched plastic ware, etc and then put everything back where it belonged. Refrigerators were emptied, cleaned and contents checked for shelf life. The stoves were cleaned and on the way out the door, the floor was left sparkling and a good time was had by all. 2 Security Update Recruit more members for the Security Committee Consider strategies for the formation of a Community Watch Team starting in the fall Develop approaches to increase compliance with the 15 mph speed limit within the park Find appropriate resources that can provide important information about Public Safety and Security at various community meetings and future issues of the Village Voice. Your Security Committee is in a changeover condition. Since the last Village Voice, Barry Arnold tendered his resignation so he can concentrate on his Board of Directors duties and portfolios responsibilities. We wish to thank him for his hard work and dedication to the importance of park security. Presently we are looking at our role and responsibilities. We want to ensure that everyone has the same understanding of the role of the Security Committee. We will regularly provide information relating to public safety and security. Our goal is to present you with information that will improve the quality of life within our community. We also hope you find this and future articles interesting and informative. In this article we have included a few basic Home Security Tips always worth repeating. BASIC HOME SECURITY TIPS The following guidelines should be used in reviewing your home security. Keep doors locked. Lock your doors even when COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY No community can be completely risk-free in today s society. Safety and security are everyone s responsibility. Therefore, the collective efforts of every resident in Country Lakes II in cooperation with your Security Committee are necessary. Residents and visitors are partners in maintaining an environment that is safe and secure. Everyone is asked to be alert, security conscious, and involved. We urge everyone to take security issues seriously. Keeping our residents and our facilities safe is everybody s business. If we work together, we can certainly achieve this goal. going to the club house or when visiting a neighbor. If possible, insure that all exterior doors have COMMUNITY UPDATE The park has been relatively quiet with the exception of the severe rain storm that caused damage to a few homes, left a great deal of debris and ripped apart a portion of the fence in our storage compound. We also had a report of cookies taken from the kitchen that belonged to the Bingo Group. 15 MPH SPEED LIMIT Please, please, please observe the posted 15 MPH speed limit in the park. Despite the clearly posted 15 mph signs, many try to drive much faster. T he safety of our residents, visitors walking or on their bicycles is a very good reason to drive slower. Please be patient and obey the law. Encourage others to do the same. CURRENT COMMITTEE CONSIDERATIONS The committee is considering the following issues: Choose attire (i.e. hats, vests, T-shirts etc.) for the team with the intention of having an obvious presence within the park Have an understandable grasp of our role that is published and understood by everyone this will include consideration for the role of Public Safety and Security 2 deadbolt locks. Keep doors locked even when you are at home. Have window locks installed on all windows. Use them. Do not leave keys hidden outside the home. Leave an extra key with a trusted neighbor. Have proper lighting around your home and keep it well lit at night. Get to know your neighbors and keep their phone numbers handy. They are your best defense and can only report suspicious activity when they know who or what does not belong in the area Develop a rapport with them and offer to keep an eye on each other s homes, especially during trips. Have a friend or neighbor check on you daily if you are home alone. If you have burglar or intrusion alarms, check and use them. Keep at least one fire extinguisher in the home (in the kitchen). Learn how to use it. Keep flashlights in several areas in the house. Check the batteries often, Arrange for someone to rake your lawn, clean up your driveway when you are on an extended leave. If you observe any unusual activity, call 911 first, then a member of the Safety Committee Norman Lewsey

Manager s Column Parking and RV Storage As many of our residents prepare to head back up north for the summer, there are a couple things that I would like review with everyone. One item is parking.

There are occasions when overnight parking in the street is unavoidable and issues like that need to be brought to my attention so I can be aware of the situation.

3 Manager s Column Parking and RV Storage As many of our residents prepare to head back up north for the summer, there are a couple things that I would like review with everyone. One item is parking. I encourage you all to review the parking requirements in both parks. There is no parking in the street over night. There are occasions when overnight parking in the street is unavoidable and issues like that need to be brought to my attention so I can be aware of the situation. In addition, when loading or unloading a trailer, truck or RV, the vehicle can be parked in front of your residence for a period of 24 hrs. Try to be considerate of your neighbor s driveways if RV or trailer parking cannot be avoided. All vehicles are to be parked in the resident s driveway. If there is not enough room, then the vehicles are to be parked in the over flow parking or RV storage lots. Keep in mind that the CLV has already been warned by the Manatee County Fire department for blocking emergency vehicles. Guest and overflow parking permits should be filled out at the office so we are aware of who belongs to what vehicle. We will be reorganizing our RV storage area in CLV I this summer and I would be interested in hearing ideas from those that have something stored in the lot. We have a lot of wasted space there I believe that the space can be utilized more efficiently. We have also found yard waste in the dumpster in RV Storage CLV I and we do not know who put it there. This dumpster is for yard waste from maintenance of the common areas in the parks. This dumpster is not for resident yard waste. If anyone notices yard waste being put in the dumpster by someone other than our maintenance staff, please let the office know. The resident yard waste is picked up by the county every week. Just place in front of your residence Tuesday nights and it will be picked up. The cost for trash pickup is included in your water/utilities bill. It costs the park every time we dump the dumpster. Thank you for your cooperation. To all our snow birds, travel safe and we will see you in the fall. Have A Great Summer, Kirk Mason Fantastic Ladies of CLV II met on April 13th at 10:30 at the Club House. A very brief meeting was held. Ten more ladies have joined the Fantastic Ladies of CLV II Red Hat Chapter. All ladies are invited to become a Red Hat Member and join in the fun. We adjourned to the Marina Jack II in Sarasota for lunch and a wonderful cruise of the Sarasota Bay. It was a fantastic day for the 35 ladies who attended. Marcia and Sherry were the princesses for the day. They provided Easter eggs with scratch off tickets to everyone. The food was great and the scenery was wonderful as well. We all had a great time. Thank you so much Marcia and Sherry for arranging such a great outing for us all. For the birthday of the Red Hat Society we are meeting for breakfast on the 25th of April at Miller s in Bradenton at 9:30 am. Please sign up at the club house and come for a great breakfast and to help celebrate the 13th birthday of the Red Hat Society. Our next meeting will be held on the 10th of May at 10:30 at the club house. We are in need of ladies to sign up for the princess duties for the upcoming months. Please sign up at the club house on the Red Hat Board. Keep your eye out for upcoming events either via and/or posting on the Red Hat Board in the Club House. We meet at 10:30 on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Club House, then adjourn to go to our luncheon and/ or whatever activity the Princess has arranged. Judy Faries, Queen Mother PLEASE! Call Bernard Marsden Mondays: Ladies Bridge 1:00-4:00 PM Call Marie Rimm The organ in our clubhouse is going to be given away if not used. If there is someone in the park who is willing to play the organ at some of our social events please let anyone on the RAC Board know. If anyone knows of a nursing home or church who would like the organ donated, we would like to know that also. If we don t have a reason to keep it by this November, we plan on giving it away. The RAC is looking for someone in the park to manage the Coke machine in the clubhouse. Leon Thacker has been doing it for the last 5 years and would like someone else to take over that responsibility. If you would be interested please contact one of the RAC Board members. The new directories were delivered to the home owners April 5th & 6th in the park. If some of you did not get your copy please contact Sandy Thacker. For those who already left for the season, you can go to the website and on the Activities page there is a pdf copy of which you can save a copy of to your own computer to use as needed. If your information was updated after January 15th your updated data won t be in this years directory but an update is included in this issue as an insert and on the website s Activities page. There is an Overhead Projector system and Blue Ray disc player included in the package. You can look forward to some Movie Nights and a Super Bowl Party and possibly Karaoke and other events using the new system.
