2 Why are we doing this trip? AIM: - to enable students to gain a realistic and emotional understanding of World War One - to understand the human cost to war - to gain an understanding of the events that have shaped our country - Compliments GCSE units Weimar Germany and impact of war on medicine

4 Where are we staying? Accommodation: Poppies 1, Ypres Students will stay in multiple bedded rooms, with staff located on the same floors

5 Day 1 Saturday 8 July :00 Students to arrive at school - don t forget your passport and EHIC - students to provide own packed lunch and drinks for Friday 06:15 Coach departs school to Dover - no chewing gum, nuts or chocolate on the coach 09:25 Ferry crossing (P&O) to Calais (arrive 12:00 local time) 13:30 Arrive at the In Flanders Field museum in Ypres and walk to the Menin Gate

6 Day 1 Saturday 8 July :15 Arrive at Sanctuary Wood Museum and Hill 62 16:40 Arrive at Langemark 17:30 Arrive at Poppies 1 School Hotel and check in 18:15 Evening meal at local restaurant 19:15 Walk to Menin Gate for Last Post Ceremony

7 Day 2 Sunday 9 July :00 Breakfast and collection of packed lunches 09:45 Arrive at Wellington Quarry. 11:45 Depart for Albert. Time for lunch. 13:00 Afternoon Battlefield Tour Delville Wood at Longueval, Thiepval The Memorial to the Missing, the Trenches at Beaumont-Hamel and Newfoundland Park 18:00 Return to Hotel 19:00 Evening meal at local restaurant

8 Day 3 Monday 10 July :00 Breakfast, collection of packed lunches and check-out 09:00 Depart for Bruges centre (free time and lunch) 12:45 Depart for Calais 14:15 Arrive at Calais for ferry check in and clear British Customs and Immigration 15:20 Return Ferry crossing from Calais (P&O) 18:15 Arrive back to school (approx) Please arrange collection of your child accordingly.

9 What s included? Meals - Breakfast, packed lunch and evening dinner - Students to provide own packed lunch and drinks for Friday Entrance fees to all sites visited

10 What to take? Passport and EHIC card Toiletries Appropriate clothing for the duration of the trip Warm jumper/fleece and rain jacket Sensible/comfortable footwear for walking Change of footwear in case muddy conditions (plus shoe bag) Camera Sun cream and hat Torch Luggage allowance: one small suitcase/holdall per student plus a small day rucksack Students must be able to carry their own luggage!

11 Spending Money/Valuables/Passports Spending money will need to be exchanged for Euros prior to the trip. Students will hold onto their own money. Passports and EHIC s will be collected and held by a member of staff. Students are advised against taking any valuable items. Lost or stolen items cannot be replaced by the school. As per school policy, NO MOBILE PHONES (or tablets).

12 Emergency Contact For emergencies only, phone the school in the first instance during office hours If outside of office hours, please use the emergency number provided (this will be issued the week of the trip) Check your contact details sheet (OA4) is accurate. Please clearly mark any amendments (for the duration of this trip) and return to Mrs Feetham by this Wednesday 14 June, or hand in after this meeting Follow updates via Twitter

13 Medication Complete and sign Overseas Medical and Behaviour Agreement and return by this Wednesday 14 June, or hand in after this meeting Complete Residential Trip Medicine Form for any medication your child will require during the time of this trip Any medication (prescribed or over the counter) is to be handed in to the main office by WEDNESDAY 5 JULY in original boxes and clearly labelled. Only provide enough medication for the duration of this trip. Students are NOT to carry any medication (either prescribed or over the counter), the only exception is asthma inhalers or Epipens (please still complete form if this applies) Trip Leader will hold onto medication listed on the residential medicine form and dispense as required
