1 THE NEWSLETTER OF Volume 2 Issue 4 September 2015 The Newsletter for the Mark and Royal Ark Mariner Degrees Features on Social Events Chit-chat around the Province Readers letters News from Lodges Members contributions Jokes A Sincere Thank You... The Past Provincial Grand Master, R.W. Bro. Eric Roy Gore-Browne at his dinner in May was presented with a Music System and a sum of money to be spent on a personal item of his choice. The Past PGM sends this message to the brethren of the Province: - Some of the Brethren attending the dinner in May Once again, I must thank the brethren of this wonderful Province for the Bose music system and the handsome cheque I received on the 30 th May. Inside this issue: A Sincere Thank You Social Events 1 1 My Wi-Fi system at that time was not up to handling the sophisticated technology of the Bose and I spent some of the money upgrading my Wi-Fi system and with the help of someone who knew what he was doing, we are now up and running. With the remainder, I am now the proud owner of one of the best travel compact cameras produced, a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60. Mark Rugby Lodge Travelling Keystone 2 2 RAM News 3 Notes 3 Golf News 4 Caption Two Social Events 4 5 So again, thank you one and all as I can now listen to my music system whilst trying to figure out how an 18.1 million-pixel sensor with a massive 30x optical zoom range with Wi-Fi and GPS with raw image capture actually works! MARK SOCIAL DATES The Mark Social Committee has settled many of their dates for their forthcoming Social events in the near future. These events are very well organised by a very experienced group of Brethren and are hugely popular amongst all Mark Brethren. Most of these events are open to other Degrees and Non Masonic persons, and involve our ladies and families: - 1) Family Lunch - Beverley Road Hull - 04/10/15. Good food and good value. Bring your families and friends 2) Northern Variety Night - Middlesbrough Masonic Hall 28/11/15. Introducing a wonderful singer, new events and a nice meal. 3) Driffield Fish & Chip supper - Driffield - 26/01/2016. Another favourite Mark event. 4) Burns Night - St Saviourgate York - 06/02/2016. Always popular. Book early! 5) Night of Eastern Promise at the Jinnah, York. 22/03/16. This event is always booked solid each year. 6) Northern Family Lunch - Redcar Masonic Hall - 05/06/6. 7) Mark Ladies Evening - York Racecourse - 25/06/2016. A great fun night out.

2 Page Brethren Attended MARK RUGBY LODGE 1965 CONSECRATED Over 100 Brethren attended the Consecration of a new Mark Lodge in East Lancashire on 30th April at Rochdale Masonic Hall. The Lodge Founders number 27 from 5 different Provinces, East Lancs, West Lancs, N & E Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and Cumberland & Westmorland. Our Provincial Grand Master is one of the Founders and has been installed as the Junior Warden. The Lodge will have at least one meeting in a different Province each year allowing the Lodge Brethren to go on tour. For those who wish to Scrum down with the Brethren check the East Lancashire Mark Website calendar for the new dates. The Lodge presented the new Director of Ceremonies with Red and Yellow cards along with a whistle which is used extensively during the Festive Board! Those wishing to join the Lodge can contact our PGM or the Secretary V.W. Bro. Mervyn Wilson at mervynfrankwilson@btinternet.com Our PGM Is Junior Warden MARK TRAVELLING KEYSTONE Keystone Stuck In The North Cleveland Mark Lodge had possession of the Travelling Keystone, but at their meeting on 1st May W. Bro. Peter Armstrong the WM of Stokesley IM Lodge leading a team of 11 Brethren claimed the Stone. The Stokesley IM Lodge only held the Stone until 19th June when W. Bro. Raymond Clark descended with only 4 Brethren and claimed the Stone on behalf of the Middlesborough Mark Lodge No. 274! Only 4 Brethren! All Worshipful Masters please note, you do not need to have great numbers to claim the Stone. Or do you...?? Stokesley Alverton Cleveland The Victory Attack The Journey so far... Brough Start Minerva On October 5th The next meeting of Middlesborough Mark Lodge of will be on Monday October 5th, if you miss this opportunity you will have to wait until February 2016 to make a claim!! All Brethren are welcome to attend and we hope that a claim for the Keystone will be made

3 Page 3 RAM NEWS On 5th June R.W. Bro. David Robert (Bob) Clancey, PGM, presented our new Travelling Porphyry Stone to The Beacon Centenary RAM Lodge No to start its journey around the Province. but their possession was very short lived, 14 members of Allertonshire RAM Lodge No 845 descended upon them at the meeting and claimed the Stone at the end of the meeting! Don t forget Brethren that any Worshipful Commander can plan a raid on the Lodge that is in possession of the Porphyry Stone to make a claim on it and take it back to his Lodge and display it with pride. Join in brethren and make your Royal Ark Mariner meetings and festive boards overflow with visitors!!! The ownership of this Porphyry Stone is something to be proud of and will grace your meetings, if you can hold onto it... Allertonshire RAM next meeting is on Tuesday November 3rd. Claim it then and your Lodge will be in possession at the Prov. Annual Meeting in November and your Worshipful Commander will parade it into the meeting and present it to the PGM. - VW. Bro. Frank Woolgrove had a wonderful painting of Noah, and the Ark, which was presented to him by Gordon Setterfield and the Brethren of the Alexandra RAM Lodge at the end of his time as Deputy PGM in It has been hung on his staircase, and every morning he has been greeted by it as he descended the stairs. He had taken it down for spring cleaning, and he thought it is high time that it went back to the Lodge for everyone to admire. He told Gordon Setterfield that it was in his Will for it to go back to Hornsey, after his death, but as he aged, and the recent problem with Gordon's health made him certain that this was the proper time to return it. Accordingly, on Wednesday May 8th he attended the Alexandra RAM Lodge and re-presented it to the Lodge; Gordon Setterfield accepted the picture on behalf of the Lodge and it has been hung in the bar, as an encouragement to other Masond to inquire about the RAM dagree. Take a look at the picture detail Brethren. It is not often that you see the animals LEAVING the Ark! Make A Claim Only Four Visitors The Picture Returns Home NOTES Starting on 1st September 2015 the Lodge of St Andrew Mark Lodge No are making changes to their meetings. The month of December is replaced with June and their Installation is moved from November to September. Meeting Months are therefore February, April, June, September and November, the meeting day is the 4th Wednesday in the Month. - In the last edition of this Newsletter the Editor stated that the Article on the Lodges in New Zealand was presented by W. Bro. David Batley, it was however collated by W. Bro. David Sever-Topping. Your Editor offers his apologies for this error and will no doubt be humble when next he sees him. - Editor. Please keep your photos, comments and news coming in. I can only make this Newsletter interesting, informative and humorous with your help Brethren. A Few Notes
