1 THE WARWICK CHRONICLE WARWICK CENTRAL SAFER NEIGHBOURHOOD TEAM COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2014 CHASE MEADOW EMSCOTE - HEATHCOTE - THE FORBES ESTATE THE PACKMORES - THE PERCY ESTATE - THE WOODLOES WARWICK GATES WARWICK TOWN INCIDENT OVERVIEW INCIDENTS RECORDED FOR THE WARWICK CENTRAL SAFER NEIGHBOURHOOD TEAM FOR AUGUST 2014: INCIDENT TYPE: AUGUST 2014 AUGUST 2013 JULY 2014 ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR BURGLARY DWELLING (HOUSES) BURGLARY OTHER (OUT BUILDINGS INCLUDING COMMERCIAL PREMISES) CRIMINAL DAMAGE THEFT FROM MOTOR VEHICLE (TFMV) THEFT OF MOTOR VEHICLE VIOLENCE * FIGURES CORRECT AS OF TUESDAY 1 ST SEPTEMBER 2014 CRIME OVERVIEW THIS SECTION LOOKS AT THE CRIMES OF PUBLIC INTEREST THAT HAVE OCCURRED ON THE WARWICK CENTRAL SAFER NEIGHBOURHOOD TEAM POLICING AREA, CRIMES SUCH AS BURGLARY, THEFT, AUTO CRIME AND CRIMINAL DAMAGE: BELOW IS A VERY BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE TYPES OF INCIDENTS THAT HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO US. BURGLARIES: A RELATIVELY GOOD MONTH IN TERMS OF BURGLARIES, ESPECIALLY FROM OUTBUILDINGS AND OTHER NON-RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS. THAT SAID; ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOU LOCK DOORS AND WINDOWS WHEN LEAVING YOUR HOUSE. WE HAVE HAD ONE REPORT OF A LUCKY LADY WHO WENT TO WORK AND LEFT THE FRONT DOOR OPEN ALL DAY, AND WASN T BROKEN INTO. THE SAME WITH GARDEN SHEDS; NEVER LEAVE TOOLS AND BIKES UNLOCKED AND INSECURE. AUTOCRIME: JUST THE ONE REPORTED THEFT OF A VEHICLE THIS MONTH. HOWEVER, TFMV CONTINUE TO BE AN ISSUE. ALWAYS REMOVE VALUABLES AND ANYTHING OF NOTE WHEN YOU LEAVE YOUR CAR. ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR: A DROP IN THE NUMBER ASB INCIDENTS REPORTED THIS MONTH. SINCE OUR PREVIOUS NEWSLETTER AND WE HAVE HAD NO FURTHER CALLS IN RELATION TO YOUTHS JUMPING INTO THE RIVER AVON IN ST NICHOLAS PARK. A LARGE NUMBER OF THE PARENTS OF THOSE CHILDREN WERE SPOKEN TO, AND THANKFULLY IT APPEARS TO HAVE STOPPED.

2 NEIGHBOUR DISPUTES STILL MAKE UP A BIG CHUNK OF THOSE INCIDENTS, AS DO CALLS ABOUT CHILDREN PLAYING FOOTBALL. WE HAVE ALSO HAD A FEW CALLS ABOUT CARS RACING AROUND THE WOODLOES ESTATE, ESPECIALLY HATHAWAY DRIVE. CRIMINAL DAMAGE: AN INCREASE THIS MONTH WHICH IS OBVIOUSLY DISAPPOINTING. A NUMBER OF THOSE INCIDENTS RELATE TO VEHICLES BEING DAMAGED AS WELL AS SOME PROPERTIES IN THE EARLY HOURS OF FRIDAY 8 TH AUGUST WHERE A GROUP OF DRUNKEN YOUTHS RAN AMUCK ALONG WEST STREET AND ONTO THE STRATFORD ROAD. A NUMBER OF MALES WERE ARRESTED AT THE TIME. THEFTS: BICYCLES STILL MAKE UP A BIG NUMBER OF THE INCIDENTS THIS MONTH, AS DO MOBILE DEVICES SUCH AS PHONES & IPADS. CONSIDER INSTALLING TRACKER SOFTWARE, AND ALWAYS MAKE NOTE OF YOUR IMI NUMBER. THE ONLY OTHER THING THIS MONTH IN SOME OF THE QUIETER AREAS IS FUEL THEFT, EITHER FROM VEHICLE TANKS, OR DOMESTIC FUEL SUPPLIES. INCIDENTS & ISSUES ON YOUR LOCAL AREAS. BELOW IS A BRIEF SELECTION OF SOME OF THE INCIDENTS THAT HAVE OCCURRED ACROSS THE AREA, WARD BY WARD.. WARWICK NORTH WARD: A FEW CALLS THIS MONTH RELATING TO BOY-RACERS USING HATHAWAY DRIVE TO SHARPEN UP THEIR LEWIS HAMILTON SKILLS. A NUMBER OF THESE YOUTHS HAVE BEEN DEALT WITH, AND WE INTEND TO PAY REGULAR ATTENTION TO THE AREA. DURING THE DAY OF 7 TH AUGUST, ENTRY WAS GAINED TO A HOUSE ON PORTOBELLO WAY, AND A FAIR BIT OF DAMAGE CAUSED TO THE INTERIOR. INC 373 OF 7 TH AUGUST. OVERNIGHT OF THE 11 TH INTO 12 TH AUGUST A HOUSE ON GRASSINGTON AVENUE WAS ENTER THROUGH AN INSECURE DOWNSTAIRS WINDOW AND A LAPTOP WAS TAKEN. INC 52 OF 12 TH AUGUST. A PROPERTY ON WOODLOES AVENUE SOUTH WAS BROKEN INTO SOMETIME AROUND LUNCHTIME ON 21 ST AUGUST. THE HOUSE HAVING ONLY BEEN LEFT UNOCCUPIED FOR 3 HOURS WAS BROKEN INTO AND A QUANTITY OF JEWELLERY WAS TAKEN. INC 170 OF 21 ST AUG. WARWICK SOUTH WARD: SHOPLIFTING CONTINUES TO BE AN ISSUE ACROSS THE WHOLE AREA, BUT THE SHIRES RETAIL PARK SEES MORE THAN IT S FAIR SHARE. MAKE-UP, AFTERSHAVES/PERFUMES, CLOTHES AND JOINTS OF MEAT ARE STILL THE MOST TARGETED ITEMS. THERE HAS ALSO BEEN A NUMBER OF DRIVERS MAKING OFF WITHOUT PAYMENT FROM THE PETROL STATION ON THE AREA. THIS TYPE OF CRIME ISN T JUST LIMITED TO PETROL STATIONS THIS MONTH, AS SOME OF THE RESTAURANTS IN THE AREA HAVE ALSO SUFFERED THE SAME FETE. ON FRIDAY 15 TH AUGUST, A MALE WAS STABBED AT AN ADDRESS NEAR TO WARWICK CASTLE, AND A LADY WAS ALSO ASSAULTED. THEY WERE BOTH LATER DISCHARGED FROM HOSPITAL, AND TWO LOCAL MALES WERE ARRESTED AND SUBSEQUENTLY CHARGED WITH SECTION 18 WOUNDING AMONGST OTHER THINGS AND HAVE BEEN REMANDED IN CUSTODY. WARWICK WEST WARD: A LARGE CHUNK OF THE ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR CALLS THIS MONTH RELATE TO NEIGHBOUR DISPUTES IN AND AROUND THE AREA. ON SUNDAY 31 ST AUGUST AT APPROX 14:00HRS A MALE TRIED TO FORCE ENTRY TO A PROPERTY ON HAMPTON ROAD. THANKFULLY HE DIDN T GET IN, BUT SMASHED THE FRONT DOOR, AND IN DOING SO,

3 MADE SUBSTANTIAL LACERATIONS TO HIS ARMS, AND LEFT A TRAIL OF BLOOD AS HE FLED THE SCENE. IT IS BELIEVED THIS WAS A CASE OF MISTAKEN IDENTITY. INC 197 OF 31 ST AUG. LIKE THE SHIRES RETAIL PARK, THE SHOPS IN THE TOWN CENTRE ALSO HAVE A FAIR BIT OF SHOPLIFTING TO DEAL. ALCOHOL IS THE MAIN TARGET FOR OFFENDERS TRYING TO GET AWAY WITH ITEMS FROM CONVENIENCE STORES AND SUPER MARKETS. IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THESE, OR ANY OTHER INCIDENTS, THEN PLEASE GET IN TO TOUCH AS SOON AS POSSIBLE ON THE CONTACT NUMBERS SHOWN ON PAGE 6.
