For all that braved the cold to attend and to others that fell victim to our human frailties thank you for being part of this EVENT.

I too had issue after attempting to jump start a Gram Page and it appears, did in the regulator on my Step down and caused me to break down on the 70 mile road tour.

This time had extra battery in the trunk and a new regulator to install if needed, and it was replaced with no other issues getting home safely.

March Cold and sometimes wet, never the less a good time was had for most. Some needed to abandon ship and go home due to reports of coming ice for those from north of Dallas. For all that braved the cold to attend and to others that fell victim to our human frailties thank you for being part of this EVENT. Friday morning was eventful with a few cars not wanting to start mostly exacerbated due to the cold and one was injured unloading a trailered car and had to leave due to cracked ribs I am sure? I too had issue after attempting to jump start a Gram Page and it appears, did in the regulator on my Step down and caused me to break down on the 70 mile road tour. Had the same issue last month attending Hotrods and Hatters meeting! This time had extra battery in the trunk and a new regulator to install if needed, and it was replaced with no other issues getting home safely. Saturday morning was very crisp and every one headed over to the Waxahachie court house square where we spend the rest of the day previewing all the cars for public consumption. We had very good attendance of the public with many young kids enjoying seeing all the old Orphan cars. Very enjoyable to see what folks take note of with all the cars displayed!!! I believe this to be the best meeting we have each year and hope more will attend next year. Meeting new car owners and learning of all the stories is great! Every year builds on the last as to getting to know every one better. SWEETHEARTS AND ORPHANS MEET P A G E 2 Thursday February 28 was a cool and damp day in Waco Texas.

Our plan included waiting for our friend Rodney Lemmon to arrive before departing. Rodney arrived a bit early having driven up to Waco from his home in Austin.

Other than a short time of drizzle as we departed our trip was cool, windy and uneventful as we motored to our host hotel.

This began a GREAT weekend of car fun planned by Larry and Pat Kollie our meet coordinators. Thursday night we caught up with old friends and new ones too.

2 SWEETHEARTS AND ORPHANS MEET P A G E 2 Thursday February 28 was a cool and damp day in Waco Texas. Yolanda and I planned to depart from home to drive the 75 miles to Waxahachie Texas and attend the Sweet Hearts and Orphans meet being held there. Our plan included waiting for our friend Rodney Lemmon to arrive before departing. Rodney arrived a bit early having driven up to Waco from his home in Austin. After a cup of coffee we all headed out of Waco via Texas Farm to Market routes to our destination. Other than a short time of drizzle as we departed our trip was cool, windy and uneventful as we motored to our host hotel. Arriving around 3PM we were not the first to arrive as several OR- PHAN autos dotted the parking lot. After checking in we three headed to a nearby restaurant for an late lunch early dinner. This began a GREAT weekend of car fun planned by Larry and Pat Kollie our meet coordinators. Thursday night we caught up with old friends and new ones too. It was obvious then that the weather was effecting attendance. Weather forecasting was all over the map with rain, sleet, snow and ice being prognosticated for our regular attendees home areas. Some chose to skip the event while others living further to the north who did attend, decided to return home early as the temperatures dived and the forecasts presented freezing temperatures. Friday was a cool but precipitation free day and all who participated in the round trip driving tour were treated to out of the way destinations that most had never visited or knew about. We visited a vocational high school were the mechanical classes students were given an opportunity to view all the cars who were on the driving tour. We motored on to next visit the largest Salvation Army retreat and children's summer camp facility in the US. From there our tour drove to a glider airport were one of the glider club members provided insights into glider flying as well as a tour of the hangers were these aircraft are stored. Our lunch stop

Returning to the host hotel we were again on our own for dinner and some later gathered in the common room to catch up on one another's lives and our car hobby adventures.

Our meet manager, Larry got those in the group who were participating in the CAR SHOW at the Ellis County court house headed that way at 9am.

The tour continued on to a private residence built to resemble a train depot from times past. The owner is a railroad buff who shared his home and collection with the touring car owners. Returning to the host hotel we were again on our own for dinner and some later gathered in the common room to catch up on one another's lives and our car hobby adventures. Saturday dawned with cool temperatures and the remnants of overnight showers on the cars and covering the parking lot. Our meet manager, Larry got those in the group who were participating in the CAR SHOW at the Ellis County court house headed that way at 9am. Yolanda and I drove our Hudson there and after arriving were marshaled into a parking spot on the south side of the square. The chill in the air necessitated coats and gloves to keep oneself warm. I like many others partook of the town museum's warmth to cut the bone chilling coolness. Larry and Pat were sensitive to the fact many of the ORPHAN car wives were not necessarily interested in...talking shop... at the show and scheduled a tour of three historic homes. Expecting good participation, a bus shuttled those attending to and from each home. Larry later remarked to the group...so many husbands attended the house tour he was left to answer questions about other folks cars at the car show. The car show was well attended and several cars owners registered at the show. Saturday night our meet banquet was held at the Waxahachie woman's building. A great venue where a catered Italian dinner was served. Entertaining our group was a quartette of singers who harmonized hits across a spectrum of time from the 1940s forward. The twentieth edition of the Sweet Hearts and Orphans Meet ended on Sunday morning with awards given to car show participants. Sunday was cool but without rain, Yolanda, I and Rodney pointed our car hoods south and made the trips home. Rod waved bye as we crossed under Interstate 35 South motoring on for an additional 100 miles. A meet that each year is a highlight of the entire year. Looking forward to the2020 SH&O Meet!

This message is an attempt to bring all of our members attention to a fundamental aspect of our chapter and its existence as a part of the National HET club. To be a member of our South Texas Chapter of the HET Club you must be a member in good standing with the National HET Club. That means at the time of paying your South Texas dues you must have paid your dues to the national club. Our membership chairperson will check your eligibility by accessing the national membership data base. Once your membership in the national club is validated your membership information will be entered onto the roles of our chapter. You payment will be forwarded to our treasurer for deposit in the chapter bank account. To make the process easier for you a copy of a national as well as a South Texas Chapter membership has been attached. If you are a computer and Internet user you can find the National Membership signup at the HET online webpage where there are opportunities for you to signup via electronic means with is nearly instantaneous.
