Lewis stopped a vehicle for traffic violations on Rt. 260 near Harrison Blvd. in Owings. A strong odor of burnt marijuana was emitting from inside the vehicle. During a search, Caleb M. Fry, 22 of Huntingtown, was found to be in possession of marijuana. DUI & Possession of Cocaine: On 4/2/13 at 1:54 am, Trooper First Class Wiesemann stopped a vehicle for traffic violations at Comstock Dr. and Austin Ln. in Lusby. Kevin D. Hinchliffe, 41 of Mechanicsville, was arrested for DUI. A search of the vehicle revealed drug paraphernalia with cocaine residue. He was incarcerated at the Calvert County Detention Center. Possession of Heroin: On 4/3/13 at 11:02 am, Trooper R. Lewis responded to the 3500 block of Cassell Blvd. in Prince Frederick when concerned family members called to report someone in the home abusing drugs. With the assistance of the homeowner, the residence was searched and drug paraphernalia with Heroin residue was located. Investigation revealed the drugs belonged to Lauren J. Ragan, age 20. She was charged and incarcerated at the Calvert County Detention Center. Motor Vehicle Theft/Unlawful Taking of Vehicle: On 4/6/13 at 2:05 pm, Trooper Rowe responded to the 4400 block of Diane Ct. in Prince Frederick for a reported Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. The victim reported that Edward F. Kellerman III, 26 of Prince Frederick, removed the vehicle from the residence without the owner s permission. Charges are pending. 1

Driving on a Suspended License & Possession of Drugs: On 4/7/13 at 3:18 pm, Trooper First Class Esnes stopped a vehicle for traffic violations on Rt. 231 at Stafford Rd in Prince Frederick.

2 Driving on a Suspended License & Possession of Drugs: On 4/7/13 at 3:18 pm, Trooper First Class Esnes stopped a vehicle for traffic violations on Rt. 231 at Stafford Rd in Prince Frederick. The driver, Eric N. Fox, 43 of La Plata, was arrested for driving on a suspended license. During a search, he was found to be in possession of drugs for which he did not have a prescription.. Possession of Marijuana: On 4/7/13 at 10:40 pm, Trooper Oles stopped a vehicle for traffic violations on Rt. 4 at Parran Rd. in St. Leonard. The front passenger, Chaude A. Leaver, 21 of Chaptico, was found to have an open arrest warrant in St. Mary s County. During the arrest, both she and the driver, DeAndre A. Watkins, 21 of Lexington Park, were found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Theft: On 4/6/13 at 6:14pm, Trooper First Class Esnes responded to the 7-11 store on Prince Frederick Blvd. to investigate a stolen cell phone. The victim left the phone on the counter while making a purchase and accidentally left the store. Surveillance video showed the phone was picked up by another customer who then left the store. The suspect is described as a white male, 5 10 and medium build, approx yrs old with brown and gray hair. He was wearing a red V-neck long sleeve T-shirt, blue jeans, and black shoes. He left the store in a newer model gray Volkswagen Passat that appeared to have a spare tire on the left rear wheel. If you have any information about this case, you can call the Maryland State Police Prince Frederick Barrack anonymously at (410) Beware of Internet Scam: On 4/2/13 at 12:06 pm, Trooper Barlow took a fraud report which is related to an ongoing scam. Online job ads are posted for Administrative Assistant, Work from home shopping, and others. (In this case, the ad was on WashingtonPost.com) Once you apply for the job and are hired, you are set up with an online contact that then sends you checks to cash through your bank. You are asked to wire money to various locations under the pretense of completing administrative tasks for your new employers. You are also allowed to keep a small amount as a hiring bonus. The checks are later found to be fictitious. No matter the variation of the scam, most usually deal with fake checks. Please use caution when dealing with any checks, money orders, etc. mailed to you or are acquired through any type of internet contacts. Burglary Case # : Residents of a home in the 300 block of Cayuse Circle in Lusby called police at 5:17 a.m. on March 30 when an unknown man banged on their front door then broke the door down. The man appeared to be heavily intoxicated and lay down on the sofa and went to sleep. The man advised DFC J. Hardesty that he was chased into the house by rabid dogs. He then said he was in the wrong house. Michael Zachery Custer, 22 of Lusby, was charged with burglary and destruction of property. Custer Destruction of Property Case # : Someone cut the screen of a window on a home in the 7600 block of Old Bayside Road in Chesapeake Beach between March 31 and April 1. A tire cover on the victim s RV was also damaged. Dep. C. Fox is investigating. 2

3 Burglary Case # : Unknown suspect(s) burglarized a home in the 3000 block of Holland Cliffs Road in Huntingtown between March 13 and April 2. Various pieces of copper pipe and wire valued at $200 and one air conditioning unit worth $2000 were stolen. Five hundred dollars in damage was done. Dep. A. Mohler is investigating. Burglary Case # : Unknown suspect(s) broke into a business in the block of H.G. Trueman Road in Lusby and stole fifty feet of copper electrical wire. The theft occurred sometime in March. Dep. G. Gott is investigating. Theft Case # : Dep. W. Beisel is investigating the theft of gasoline worth $23 from the St. Leonard Fast Stop on April 3 at 3:30 p.m. Store employees gave a description of the suspect and his vehicle and will provide security camera footage to aid in the investigation. Destruction of Property Case # : A victim on D Avenue in St. Leonard advised Dep. G. Gott that sometime between April 3 and 4, someone sprayed her vehicle with yellow dust. The dust appears to possibly be from a fire extinguisher. The vehicle did not suffer permanent damage. Theft Case # : Unknown suspect(s) broke the glass case and stole two five pound fire extinguishers from Flag Harbor Marina in St. Leonard between April 3 and 4. The combined theft and damage amount is $160. Dep. G. Gott is investigating. Destruction of Property Case # : Between April 4 and 5, someone broke a section of a wooden fence and dumped a case of empty beer cans in the yard of a home in the 9900 block of Old Solomons Island Road in Owings. The damage is estimated at $100. DFC P. Aurich is investigating. Theft Case # : Overnight between April 4 and 5 unknown suspect(s) stole 4 wheels, tires and lug nuts valued at over $4300 off a vehicle in the parking lot of Prince Frederick Dodge. Cpl. M. Naecker is continuing the investigation. 3

Resisting Arrest, Assault Case #13-19937: Two men were arrested on April 6 around 1:00 a.m. when deputies responded to a home in the 11100 block of Beacon Way in Lusby for the report of a loud party.

Hayes struggled against the deputies while they were handcuffing him but he was subdued. Hayes was charged with disorderly conduct and failure to obey a lawful order. DFC C.

4 Resisting Arrest, Assault Case # : Two men were arrested on April 6 around 1:00 a.m. when deputies responded to a home in the block of Beacon Way in Lusby for the report of a loud party. Jalen Devante Hayes, 18 of North Beach, was arrested after he was told to calm down but he continued to attempt to fight another party-goer. Hayes struggled against the deputies while they were handcuffing him but he was subdued. Hayes was charged with disorderly conduct and failure to obey a lawful order. DFC C. Sloane arrested Jordan Heath Gayon, 19 of St. Leonard, and charged him with second degree assault when Gayon kicked him while he was assisting in subduing Hayes. Hayes Gayon Unattended Children Case # : Charges of confining an unattended child are pending against a 27-year-old Lusby mother who left her 3 children, ages 3, 6 and 7, alone in her vehicle while she shopped at the Prince Frederick Walmart on April 6 around noon. A citizen called the police when she observed the three children inside the locked vehicle. DFC J. Denton responded. Theft from Vehicle: On 3/25/13 at 5:45 pm, Trooper First Class Wiesemann responded to the 500 block of Comstock Dr. in Lusby for a reported theft. Unknown suspect(s) entered the victim s unlocked vehicle and stole the victim s wallet. Investigation continues. DUI & Possession of Oxycodone: On 3/27/13 at 11:51 am, Trooper Oles stopped a vehicle for traffic violations on Rt. 2 and Rt. 260 in Owings. Shirley F. Morris, 58 of St. Leonard, was arrested for DUI. A search revealed Oxycodone in her possession for which she did not have a prescription. She was charged and incarcerated at the Calvert County Detention Center. Theft: On 3/27/13 at 5:44 pm, Trooper First Class Wiesemann responded to Stoney s Restaurant in Prince Frederick for a theft complaint. Brittany N. Tipton, 18 of Lexington Park, left the restaurant without paying. She was located and charges are pending. DUI & Possession of Heroin: On 3/28/13 at 2:22 pm, Trooper First Class Esnes stopped a vehicle for traffic violations after observing erratic behavior while at the traffic light at Rt. 4 and Rt. 402 in Prince Frederick. Kristin Tellez, 28 of Waldorf, was arrested for DUI. A search revealed suspected Heroin. She was charged and incarcerated at the Calvert County Detention Center. Burglary: On 3/28/13 at 3:50 pm, Trooper First Class Smith responded to the 200 block of W. Mt. Harmony Rd. in Owings for a reported burglary. Unknown suspects(s) unlawfully entered the victim s storage trailer and removed miscellaneous items. Investigation continues. Possession of Synthetic Marijuana: On 3/31/13 at 11:11 pm, Trooper First Class Saucerman responded to the Super 8 Motel in Prince Frederick in reference to a possible CDS violation. A suspicious odor was coming from one of the motel rooms. The occupant of the room, Joshua A. Webb, 32 of Owings, was found to be in possession of suspected synthetic marijuana. Webb was charged and incarcerated at the Calvert County Detention Center. 4

Smith is investigating. Child Neglect Case # : Charges are pending against two Lusby women who left a nine-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl inside a locked vehicle while they shopped at the Prince Frederick Safeway on March 25 at 3:30 p.m. A concerned citizen called police and reporting seeing the two children alone inside the vehicle. Dep. W. Beisel is handling the case. CDS Violation Case # : On March 26 at 11:50 p.m. Dep. J. Migliaccio responded to the area of Lower Marlboro Road in Huntingtown for the report of a suspicious vehicle. A citizen advised that a vehicle was driving up and down the road stopping in multiple driveways. The vehicle was located traveling southbound on Md. Rt. 4 and contact was made with the driver, identified as Alyssa Nicole Ortiz, 20 of St. Leonard. Ortiz was found to be in possession of suspect marijuana and was cited with possession of marijuana less than 10 grams. Theft from Vehicle Case # : In the early morning hours of March 27 unknown suspect(s) broke the locks on a vehicle parked outside a home in the 700 block of Gunsmoke Trail in Lusby and stole over $1000 worth of property. A Garmin GPS, Milwaukee hammer drill, DeWalt tool set, a tool box and $20 in change were taken. DFC P. Wood is continuing the investigation. CDS Violation Case # : Dep. M. Quinn conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on March 27 at 8:25 p.m. on Md. Rt. 2 and 260 in Owings. She found the driver, Martin Scott Newburger, 25 of Chesapeake Beach, to be under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol and to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. Newburger was arrested and charged with DWI and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia; three small baggie tearoffs, used to contain Heroin. A 21-year-old male passenger of Tracys Landing will be charged at a later date for possession of heroin. Newburger Theft from Vehicle Case # : Someone entered an unlocked vehicle in the 300 block of Ashwood Drive in Dunkirk overnight between March 27 and 28 and stole a purse that contained a wallet and a Samsung phone. Cpl. M. Naecker is investigating. CDS Violation Case # : On March 28 at 12:10 p.m. Dep. A. Mohler received a report of a drunk driver northbound on Md. Rt. 4 leaving the Prince Frederick area. Dep. Mohler observed the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop near Calverton School Road in Huntingtown. The driver, identified as Steven Arthur Smith, 34 of St. Leonard, was cited for use of drug paraphernalia; a hypodermic needle used to inject heroin. 5

6 Theft from Vehicle Case # : A black IPOD Classic, valued at $300, was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 8100 block of Sycamore Road in Lusby overnight between March 28 and 29. Dep. G. Gott is investigating the theft. Theft Case # : Someone stole a Multiquip water pump valued at $500 from a construction site on J.W. Williams Road in Prince Frederick. Dep. W. Beisel is investigating the theft which occurred sometime between March 18 and 26. Theft from Vehicle Case # : A victim on Sycamore Road in Lusby advised Dep. G. Gott that someone entered her unlocked vehicle overnight between March 28 and 29 and stole her purse. Destruction of Property Case # : Someone threw firecrackers at a vehicle parked in the driveway of a home in the 6800 block of Briscoe Turn Road in Owings on March 29 at 9:20 p.m. The firecrackers caused $500 in damage to the vehicle. DFC A. Locke is investigating. Burglary Case # : Someone burglarized a home in the 6800 block of Hallowing Point Road in Prince Frederick on March 29 between 5:00 p.m. and 9:50 p.m. and stole $200 in cash. Dep. P. Mosely is investigating. Theft from Vehicle Case # : A victim in the 800 block of Crystal Rock Road in Lusby reported to DFC J. Smith that on March 30 at 2:00 p.m. someone stole her wallet out of her unlocked vehicle. The wallet contained $1500 in cash. The investigation continues.
