Bayview District Weekend Recap BAYVIEW POLICE STATION-201 WILLIAMS ST, S.F Act. Captain Robert O Sullivan December 3-7, 2012 Aggravated Assault: On November 30 th at 1:30 pm, officers responded to a security office on the unit block of Lillian St. on a call of an assault on a security guard. They met with the 22 year old security officer who stated that a suspect had tried to run him over with a motorcycle. The victim went on to explain that he had responded to the 1200 block of Ingalls to investigate a complaint of dirt bikes being driven recklessly in the area. He found the dirt bike parked at the scene. The security officer knew who the dirt bike belonged to and went to the suspect s home to speak with him. The suspect became combative, shoved the security officer, and went to get on the dirt bike. The victim attempted to arrest the suspect for battery at which point the suspect head-butted him while wearing his helmet. He attempted to grab the suspect at which point two other suspects came out of the building and grabbed the victim. They held the victim as the suspect punched him in the face. The suspect then got on his motorcycle, revved the engine, and gunned it toward the victim. The front wheel of the bike hit the security officer s thighs, but he was able to grab and squeeze the handbrake to prevent getting completely run down. The suspect then backed up and fled the scene on the motorcycle. The security officer was treated for his injuries by paramedics on scene. He was able to give the officers the suspect s name and identifying information. An arrest warrant in this case is pending along with an investigation into the identities of the two suspects who held the security officer during the attack. (SFPD Case No )

Narcotics Arrest: After a lengthy investigation into a local drug dealer, plainclothes officers were able to secure a search warrant for the suspect as well as his home on the 2900 block of Jennings. On November 30 th at 2:30 pm, officers responded to the home and set up surveillance. Soon after their arrival, the officers saw the suspect get into the vehicle in his driveway and drive from the scene. He was stopped about a block away and detained without incident. A search of the suspect s home revealed several rocks of crack cocaine, two large jars of marijuana, and multiple hydrocodone pills. In addition, digital scales and packaging material was also found in the home. The suspect was booked on multiple narcotics violations at Bayview Station. (SFPD Case No ) Robbery Arrest: On November 30 th at 7:50 pm, officers responded to the Smart and Final store on the 300 block of Bayshore on a call of a robbery. They met with the 45 year old security officer for the store who had been sprayed with pepper spray by one of the suspects. The victim explained that a male and female suspect came into the store and selected two large bottles of alcohol from a shelf. The female suspect placed both items into her shopping cart and both suspect rolled the cart to the rear of the store. The security officer walked to the rear of the store and found the cart, now empty, near the restroom. He then saw the male suspect walking away from the area while holding a large bag. The security officer followed the suspect out of the store and saw him placing the bottles of alcohol, which were not paid for, into the trunk of a car. The victim contacted the suspect and asked him to return the items. The suspect agreed and stated that he would be right in. The security officer then went back inside the store to make sure the female suspect did not attempt to conceal additional stolen items while in the bathroom. He attempted to detain her as she came out. He walked the female suspect to the front of the store, where the male suspect was waiting. As soon as the female suspect saw her accomplice, she began to yell, Spray him! Spray him! At this point, the male suspect sprayed the security officer with pepper spray and while he was incapacitated, both ran out into the parking lot

and drove off in their car. The entire incident was captured on the store s surveillance video. After watching the film, the officers were able to recognize the female suspect from previous encounters and knew that she was already on probation for theft. They were also able to obtain the license plate number of the car, which came back registered to the female suspect. The officers went to the suspect s home on the unit block of George Ct. in an attempt to locate her but were unable find her or the car. The officers knew that the suspect had previously stayed at an apartment on the 100 block of Kiska and responded there to look for her as well as the car. The vehicle was located parked outside, but the plates had been changed. After confirming through the VIN that the vehicle was in fact the one and the same as was used in the robbery, the officers had the car towed. The female suspect was not at the apartment when the officers checked, but the resident was told that the suspect s vehicle had been towed and if she wanted more information, she should respond to Bayview Station. She showed up at the station at midnight, inquiring about the car. She was promptly placed under arrest and booked on robbery, assault, and conspiracy charges. An investigation into the identity of her accomplice is ongoing. (SFPD Case No ) Narcotics Arrest: On November 30 th at 11:00 pm, officers stopped a car for a traffic violation in the area of 3 rd and Newcomb. They made contact with the driver and noticed the pungent odor of marijuana emanating form the car. One of the officers looked inside and saw a bag of marijuana sitting on the center consol. The officers asked the suspect to step out of the vehicle, and as he did so, they noticed that he was holding three baggies of marijuana in his hand. They placed the suspect under arrest and conducted a complete search of the car. Under a floor mat, the officers found six bindles of powder cocaine and sixteen twists of black tar heroin under another floor mat. The suspect also had a large amount of money on his person in denominations consistent with those used in drug transactions. He was booked at Bayview Station on numerous narcotics for sale charges. (SFPD Case No )

Armed Robbery: On December 2 nd at 7:00 am, a 71 year old victim was robbed on the 1000 block of Silver. He told the responding officers that he had just gotten off a bus and was standing under the eave of a building to avoid the heavy rain. The victim stated that he saw three suspect cross the street and walk up to him. One of the suspects was armed with a gun and pointed it at the victim, demanding the bag he was carrying. Another suspect punched the victim in the face as the third suspect snatched the victim s bag. All three suspects then ran from the scene. The officers searched the area for the suspects but were unable to locate them that day. This incident is under investigation. (SFPD Case No ) Possession of Stolen Property Arrest: After an arrest of a prolific San Francisco burglar, who was ultimately charged on over a dozen burglaries, investigative officers learned the name of a suspect who was buying up a lot of the property that the suspect was stealing. A plainclothes officer contacted this buyer pretending to be interested in selling him a couple of hot bikes. He agreed and met with the undercover officer on December 2 nd at 10:30 am at Bayshore and Flower. The undercover officer showed the suspect two bikes, telling him that he had stolen them and could get more if the suspect wanted. The suspect paid the officer for the bikes and began to load them into his van. The arrest team immediately converged on the suspect and placed him under arrest. A search of the van revealed a laptop, multiple cell phones and chargers, as well as jewelry and watches. The officers asked the suspect if he had a storage locker rented anywhere and he stated that he did not. He did, however, give the officers permission to search his home in San Leandro. The officers responded to the suspect s home in the city of San Leandro and conducted a search. They located two recent receipts for storage units in the suspect s name. The officers responded to the San Leandro storage facility and searched both storage lockers. Inside, they found six bicycles, bike frames, multiple GPS systems, laptops, cameras, as well as multiple types of sporting equipment. There was also a large amount of jewelry and watches in

the storage containers. All of the items were seized as evidence. At least one of the bikes had been reported as stolen from San Francisco. An investigation into the remaining property s rightful owners is ongoing. The suspect was booked on multiple counts of possession of stolen property at Bayview Station. (SFPD Case No ) Warrant Arrest: On December 2 nd at 10:50 am, officers responded to Paul and Bayshore on a call of two suspects attempting to break into a truck. The officers located both suspects near the vehicle in question and quickly learned that the truck belonged to one of them and that they were attempting to fix the tailgate, which was broken. A record check was conducted on both subjects, revealing that one of them had a no bail contempt of court warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody and booked at Bayview Station, (SFPD Case No ) Bayview District Mid-Week Recap BAYVIEW POLICE STATION-201 WILLIAMS ST, S.F Act. Captain Robert O Sullivan December 5, 2012 Warrant Arrest: On December 3 rd at 9:50 am, officers responded to the area of Hamilton and Silliman on a tip that a suspect with an outstanding warrant was drunk in the area. The officers located a suspect who matched the broadcast description and conducted a record check on him. The suspect did in fact have a no bail

drunk driving warrant out of San Mateo County. He was placed under arrest and booked at Bayview Station. (SFPD Case No ) Warrant Arrest: On December 3 rd at 1:00 pm, officers patrolling in the area of 18 th and Mississippi stopped a motorcycle for a traffic violation. They contacted the driver who admitted to not having a valid driver s license. A computer check revealed that he also had a $25,000 warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody and booked at Bayview Station. (SFPD Case No ) Stay Away Order Arrest: On December 3 rd at 1:14 pm, officers saw a subject standing against the wall of a building on the 4700 block of 3 rd. They recognized the suspect from previous arrests and knew that he had an active stay away order from the area of 3 rd and Newcomb. The suspect, who had been loitering in the area, was arrested for the violation of the court order and booked at Bayview Station. (SFPD Case No ) Auto Theft Arrest: On December 3 rd at 4:00 pm, officers patrolling in the area of 23 rd and Arkansas saw a vehicle park in front of a liquor store. The driver of the car got out and went inside the store. As the officers passed the car, they noticed that the front and rear license plates did not match. A record check revealed that the rear plate affixed to the car belonged to another vehicle and the front, which matched the parked car, showed the vehicle as having been reported stolen. The officers went inside the liquor store to detain the driver of the car. As they approached the suspect, she became very apprehensive and looked around for an area of escape. When the officer took her arm to handcuff her, she attempted to twist away and run. After not being successful at dislodging the officer s hold, the suspect began to swing at him. The officers were able to subdue the suspect and took her into custody after a short struggle. She was booked for the stolen vehicle charges at County Jail. (SFPD Case No )

Robbery: On December 3 rd at 9:20 pm, an 18 year old victim was robbed in the area of Armstrong and Keith. The victim told the responding officers that he had been walking in the area while listening to music with his headphones. He was suddenly attacked from behind by three suspects, one of whom struck him on the head, knocking him out. He awoke lying on the sidewalk and found that his iphone and earphones had been stolen. The victim was transported to SFGH where he received treatment for his injuries. The officers searched the area for the suspects but were unable to locate them that night. This incident is under investigation. (SFPD Case No ) Reckless Driving, Narcotics Arrest: On December 4 th at 4:00 pm, officers saw a vehicle doing doughnuts in the intersection of Lane and Quesada. Doughnuts is a street term for spinning a vehicle in circles by turning the wheel all the way to one side and accelerating, causing the rear tires to burn and create thick smoke. After two rotations, the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed towards 3 rd St. The officers pulled the car over and detained both the driver and his passenger. The officers recognized both suspects from previous arrests. The driver was taken into custody for reckless driving and the vehicle was searched. The officers found large amounts of marijuana, a digital scale, and several bottles of promethazine syrup inside the car. The passenger was placed under arrest as well. Both suspects were booked on narcotics for sale and conspiracy charges. The driver had reckless driving and driving on a suspended license charges added to his other charges. (SFPD Case No ) Warrant Arrest: On December 4 th at 5:30 pm, officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation at Oakdale and 3 rd. They contacted the driver and his passenger. A record check revealed that the driver had a suspended license and that the passenger had an outstanding $10,000 warrant for her arrest. She was placed

under arrest and booked at County Jail. The driver was cited for the traffic violation and for driving on a suspended license. (SFPD Case No ) Narcotics Arrest: After an investigation into a local drug dealer, a plainclothes officer contacted the suspect pretending to be a client looking for syrup, which is the common street term for promethazine. The suspect told the undercover officer that he was out of syrup but could get him some cocaine. The officer agreed to purchase the cocaine and after agreeing on the amount and price, they chose a meeting spot. On December 4 th at 9:15 pm, the plainclothes team responded to the meeting spot at a gas station at San Bruno and Paul and set up surveillance. The client officer was waiting in his car when the suspect approached the vehicle and got into the passenger seat. They completed the deal and after the suspect exited the car, he was taken into custody by the arrest team. He was booked at Bayview Station for cocaine sales.
