1 PUNA CRIME STATISTICS FOR MAY 18 - MAY 24th 2015 BURGLARY: = 5 On May 19th, approximately 12:25 pm on Road 5 in Hawaiian Acres. Victim reported unknown suspects entered her residence and removed powertools and chainsaw from within. On May 21st, approximately 1:41 am at Vernas Drive inn in Mountain View. Witness reported observing opened door to establishment and a fire within. After the owner made checks it was determined $200 in cash was taken from the register. On May 21st, approximately 7:39 am on 30th Ave in HPP. Victim reported that unknown suspects entered the treatment center by forcefully breaking glass sliding door and removed $57 cash as well a 5000 watt generator. On May 23rd, approximately 12:44 pm on Pikake Rd in Nanawale. Victim reported unknown suspects entered his fathers residence by breaking the front window of the residence and removed a washer and dryer, furniture and water pump and pressure tank. On May 23rd, approximately 4:43 pm on Pikake Street in Volcano. Victim reported unknown suspects entered her residence and removed numerous amounts of property from within.

UEMV (CAR ENTRY) = 2 On May 21st, approximately 9:27 am on Post Office Rd in Pahoa. Victim reported unknown suspects entered his pickup truck that was parked at an athurium. Per victim nothing was missing from within. On May 24th, approximately 2:26 pm on Old Volcano Rd in Mountain View. Victim reported while at a videostore unknown suspects entered and took her blue handbag and iphone from within the vehicle. ROBBERY= 0 There were no Robbery reports made during this period.

3 POLICE MEDIA RELEASE Hawaiʻi Police Department Juvenile Aid Section, Area I Lieutenant Lucille Melemai Phone: Report No. C A Puna man faces one felony and three misdemeanors after being arrested in a sexual assault investigation. At about 4:10 a.m., Sunday (May 31), police responded to a location in Pāhoa after receiving a report of an assault on a female minor. Officers arrested 42-year-old Wendell Reed Santiago of Pahoa. He was taken to the Hilo police cellblock while detectives from the Area I Juvenile Aid Section continued the investigation. Monday evening (June 1), detectives charged him with first-degree sexual assault, a class A felony, two misdemeanor charges of promoting intoxicating liquor to a person under the age of 21 and one misdemeanor charge of abuse of a family household member. His bail was set at $54,000. He remained at the cellblock pending his initial court appearance scheduled for Wednesday (June 3). 4 POLICE INFORMATION FOR THE PUBLIC: MOVE OVER LAW In July of 2012, former Governor Neil ABERCROMBIE signed a bill into law which is designed to make the highways safer for emergency responders. This was in response to 2 Honolulu Police Officers who were killed in the performance of their duties back in Hawaii was the last state to implement a move over law. [ 291C-27] Emergency vehicle stopped for emergencies; duty of approaching vehicle. (a) A driver of a vehicle that is approaching an emergency vehicle that is stopped for an emergency, investigation of a possible traffic violation, rendering assistance to a police officer, or other official duties, as indicated by the flashing emergency lights of the stopped emergency vehicle, shall: (1) Slow down to a reasonable and prudent speed that is safe under the circumstances of an emergency road situation ahead. Reasonableness and prudence shall take into account weather conditions, road conditions, and vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the immediate area. If necessary, the driver shall come to a complete stop before making a lane change under paragraph (2); and (2) Make a lane change into the adjacent lane if necessary and if it is safe to do so, or if possible, to two lanes over which leaves one lane between the driver and the emergency vehicle. (b) As used in this section, "emergency vehicle" means a police or fire department vehicle, ocean safety vehicle, emergency medical services vehicle, freeway service patrol vehicle, or a tow truck. It is ADVISED that when operating a vehicle and approaching any Hawaii Police Officers on a shoulder lane of a street or highway in the performance of their duties due to traffic stops, traffic accidents, road hazards, that this law be followed with the utmost attention of the approaching driver. 5 POLICE INFORMATION FOR THE PUBLIC: Please be ADVISED that all emergency access routes are currently closed off to the public at this time and will remain so until Highway 130 becomes cut off by the current lava flow. These areas include: -Railroad Avenue from HPP to Hawaiian Beaches -Railroad Avenue from Nanawale Estates to Hawaiian Shores -Government Beach road from Hawaiian Beaches to HPP Please be ADVISED the double lane heading in the Keaau/Hilo direction on Highway 130 near Shower Drive is now OPEN to vehicle traffic at all hours of the day. The speed limit in this area is 45 mph. As for the double lane merger heading in the Keaau/Pahoa direction of Highway 130. It is currently being discussed by Department of Transportation to extend the hours of operation past the times of 3:00 pm till 6:00 pm and extend it till 8:00 pm. When that information becomes available it will be added.
