3 Secretary s Report May 6, 2016 Meeting called to order at 8:00 p.m. Guests: Rob Montie and Gene Huegen, both eligible for membership, and Rudy Baumann. Rob and Gene were both voted in. Correspondence: none. Treasurer's Report: Financials read. Motion to pass by Tom Stresing and 2nd by Mickie Stresing. Mike said to make sure you stay for 50/50. GR3 is giving away 2 passes. Mike's daughter Sarah Corday has a book for sale on Amazon called "A Heart that Breaks and Flutters". President s Letter for June What a great weekend for a rally!! It was great to see the turn out for one of our neighboring club s events. We had to have 25 people at our campfire Saturday night. Temp s in the high 70 s and very light winds made for some great riding conditions. Why belong to a club? Well once again it was clearly shown to me at the clean-up weekend for the Easter Seals Camp Wawbeek. Our club had 20 people show up and go to work. Everybody worked as a team no one really was a boss, but if a member saw something that could be done, it was. When it was all said and done the Wisconsin Club members cut, split, delivered, and stacked 10 cords of wood. WHAT A JOB!! We also got fed at lunch and the people that stayed over got dinner and a surprise breakfast. The Easter Seals people were clearly surprised and grateful for our effort and accomplishment. Thanks to everyone that brought equipment i.e.: log splitters, saws, trailers, trucks and all other contributions. The Minnesota rally is next so some of you will be missing the June meeting stay in touch and watch your s and ride safe. We are still looking for a couple of Ride Captain s and some rally volunteers. Contact a Rally Co-Chair or the Board Member at Large if you can help. Bob President's Report: Thank you to Ernie Grill for setting up the fish fry. Vice-President: not present Secretary: None Editor: Thank you for getting your articles in early. MOA Report: Rudy Baumann and Sam Garst are both running for the board. The rally is July. WI won the mileage contest. RA Report by Karen Jacobs: See you in Laguna Seca in August for BMW's 100th anniversary celebration. Join the RA August for camping, vintage displays and the ocean. Tour Directors: Jim Guthrie led a ride to Wild Goose from Germantown. Karen Jacobs led from Black Canyon Coffee. The WI Club had the most in attendance with 54. Mona went on her first club ride on a bike in 15 years. On June 12th Tom Stresing is leading a ride to Rushing Waters. Mark Doggett mentioned a June 24th weekend at Randy Boris' home. Sunshine Committee: If you have an address change please let us know. Old Business: David Henderson would like help on May 11th at 1 pm to clean Darcel Stephen's yard. Mike Cohen gave Tracy Matzka her 5-year pin. Mike Matzka, Linda Weber, Virgil Weber, Christine Archer, and John Archer received their 15-year pins. WI Club Rally Report: We have beer. 17 were going to help cut wood at Camp Waubeek. The Friday band is 'Midlife Crisis' Karen Jacobs moved to adjourn. Dan Mueller 2nd. Adjourned 8:55 p.m. Respectfully submitted Tina Doggett

5 Rob Montie was voted in at the Fish Fry. Meet the Members Rob Montie Rob has been riding his 2015 GTL 1600 all around this year. He bought the bike last September has already has 6100 miles on it. He went to Holy Hill last weekend and the weekend before, he took a ride to Lake Superior avoiding freeways. He really enjoys being one with the bike, it clears his head. Riding takes Rob to a good place. Next week, Rob will be heading out west with a group of friends. He plans on going to California, Washington, and Glacier. His most memorable trip included Yellowstone, Tetons, Big Horns, and Hwy 14. He loved it! particularly the medicine wheel-it s so spiritual. It s a time machine, Indians have been passing though for 10,000 years and it s just awesomely beautiful. He can see why it s a spiritual site. Indians still use as spiritual site as evidenced through the offerings. It just puts you in touch with yourself. Motorcycling makes me think about those that have gone mom and dad that go with you every time you ride. There is a higher power. In April, Rob went to Arkansas, went to the NW corner to Eureka Springs, and almost nobody was there. He took Missouri 125 (he heard it was good) south to the ferry. It was beautiful. Arkansas is very curvy, not a lot of straight lines. It was a beautiful ride. being), they got married and two great children. He stopped riding during the raise-the-family years. He has two adult daughters and one two-year-old grandson. In 2005, Rob picked up a used Road- King, it was like, Why did I wait so long?. He just fell back in love with motorcycling. He wanted a bike that a little faster, more responsive, and lighter. He started looking around and he came across the 2015 GTL 1600, took a test ride, and fell in love. The BMW just fits his needs. The BMW is spunkier, corners better, lighter on its feet, handles better in tight places than the Harley s he s owned. It now has a Russell seat which is very comfortable and adjustable handle bar. According to Rob, it s important to remember that It s not the destination, it s the journey. As the beginner rider gains experience they learn how to overcome some adversity, you just deal with stuff, get through it. Nobody likes riding in rain or cold or rain and cold but when you have the right gear (boy scout to end), it s part of the challenge. Rob joined the club to have a larger circle of people and friends that like to socialize and share the passion a bigger network of people to enjoy the hobby with. Written by Mona, proofed & edited by Rob Rob has been riding since he was a kid on a Honda Mini-trail. In high school he had a dirt-bike. Then in college, met the girl of his dreams (for the time

6 Meet the Members - Gene Huegin Gene was voted in at the Fish Fry. Gene and Brenda moved to Wisconsin from Boston last August. This move was job-related. They have no pets as they enjoy freedom. They have two sons who live in Arizona and Texas. One of the son s rides a Yamaha YZF600. Years ago, when they lived in Boston, father and son rode up to Nova Scotia and ferried over to Newfoundland and rode from Port Aux Basque to St. John s across the province. On the way back, they had an 820-mile day. This wasn t too bad for Gene on his LT. The son, however, was on a crotch rocket for the 820 miles. Gene still doesn t know how he did it. the ocean and provides better views. It was so beautiful and exciting, that upon completion, they decided to do it again, but clockwise. Shortly after college Gene had a Kawasaki, KZ650 which led to a Gold Wing. We can forgive him for a brief hiatus to the dark side when he owned a Harley Ultra Classic. Gene stopped riding for a while until one day in 2003, when he was driving down the street and saw a LT in a car dealership window. (Did you hear angels singing?). That gem with only 3000 miles, soon became his. (Did you hear harps with angels singing?) He rode that bike for three years. Gene currently rides a 2013 RT (See cover). The license plate says SHNEL, but does it really mean SCHNELL? Indeed, but those pesky 5 character limits on plates require some creative spelling. The scenery was spectacular along the coastline in Nova Scotia. Gene did the Cabot Trail three timesonce with his son (first paragraph) and twice with his wife. The first time Brenda joined Gene, they chose the counter clockwise route as it is closer to The Canadian Rockies are arguably the most beautiful place ever! This trip took Gene and Brenda from Boston to the Canadian Rockies, through Alberta and stopping at places such as Lake Louise, Banff, The Icefields Parkway, Jasper National Park, and more! They had a nice cool ride, great weather, with panoramic vistas. It took their breath away. Lake Louise (Fairmont Chateau Hotel) was pretty, busy, and pretty busy. Upon leaving, a local directed them to Moraine Lake, 7 km away. This turquoise-lake amid the majestic mountains was something comparable to the Swiss Alps. The picture taken at Moraine Lakes was blown up into a 3-piece canvas hanging on their wall. They brought back the T-shirt below for a Canadian co-worker. Written by Mona, proofed & edited by Gene

7 May Rides Ernie lead a ride to the Fish Fry on May 6. It was spectacular. It took over 1 hour to go 35 miles. Ernie had given me the list of those who rode, but it has disappeared. It will probably reappear after the newsletter is sent out. Fortunately, Karen suggested I take a picture. The people I recognize are: Virgil Weber, Bob R., Gene Huegin, Rob Montie, Gina Twing, Doug Twing, Ernie Grill, Karen Jacobs, Bob Preuss, Pipkorn (both), Tim Koester, Dave Kurth, and myself. Please let Tina Doggett know if you are one of the people on this ride to count for your club points. How to Avoid Back Pain on a Long Trip GR/3 Ride Another year and another ride. It was a beautiful day for a ride thru the countryside as the weather was totally with us (this year). As always our fearless leader (Ernie Grill) has led a ride to the GREAT RIVER ROAD RALLY over a lot of nice curvy twisting lettered county roads. With a stop in Sauk City for a quick pit stop and while there our leader Ernie bought lunch for the entire group. Thanks again Ernie. Participants were Ernie Grill (Needed as we would have been lost & hungry without him),dick Burton, Dave Kurth, Andy Pretzl, Miro Sapozmnikov, Doug & Gina Twing, & Bob Reitberger. No one got separated during the ride & no flat tires or other malfunctions. Submitted by Bob Reitberger 1. Stay hydrated. Electrical signals in the muscles require water and when you dehydrate it can impair signalling which leads to cramps. 2. Eat well. To prevent cramps, you ll need to eat carbohydrates and foods with plenty of potassium, calcium and magnesium. 3. Stretch. Before you get on the bike and at every stop, just do some basic stretches. 4. Cruise control. Wrist pain usually occurs in the right wrist which is stuck in the one position on the throttle, especially on the highway 5. Loosen up. Consciously think about your posture. Drop your shoulders, loosen your grip on the handlebars, do the funky chicken (flap your elbows) and straighten your legs out for a few seconds, 6. Dress appropriately. Heat can cause dehydration which leads to cramping 7. Controls. Check that your bike levers and pedals are in the best position so that you aren t straining your wrists or ankles 8. Seat position. If your seat is adjustable, consider changing it every couple of hours on a long trip just to change your posture on the bike so you don t get frozen in the one position 9. Adjust handlebars. Most handlebars can be adjusted, even slightly. Just rolling a handlebar forward or back a little can change the angle of your wrists and your whole riding position. 10. Pain killers. If you are still suffering, consider taking some pain killers, but check to see if they have a warning about use while driving. submitted by Mona
