Partners and guests are welcome to join our regular weekly dinner meetings. THIS WEEK S GUEST SPEAKER We are fortunate to be hosting Grant Lock, the author of Shoot Me First and I d Rather Be Blind. Following their success as cattle breeders in South Australia, Grant and his wife, Janna, pursued humanitarian work for 25 years in Pakistan and Afghanistan. When his failing eyesight forced them to return to Australia, Grant turned his hand to writing, public speaking, performing and supporting educational programs in schools and universities. Grant Lock is a brilliant writer and engaging speaker. He connects easily with his audience. His anecdotes, stories and recitals are topical, authentic and unforgettable. 3 CLUB NEWS: LAST WEEK S GUEST SPEAKER Dennis Mason, spoke with us about Dr Jane Goodall s Roots and Shoots, a global youth led network of young people taking action to improve our world; it is currently making a difference in almost 100 countries. It builds on Dr. Jane s legacy and vision of placing the power and responsibility for creating solutions to big challenges in the hands of the young people. Dr Goodall is an internationally renown primatologist and anthropologist famous for her ground-breaking research into chimpanzees. Dennis invited RCKP members to be among the community groups sharing well-wishes and good-will messages to help celebrate Dr Goodall s upcoming 85th birthday. Dennis explained how the Roots and Shoots initiative is helping to engage students from Seaton High though multi media projects and visits to organisations such as Monarto Zoological Park where the students have been involved in a variety of projects. Dr Jane Goodall quote: Every individual matters. Every individual has a role to play. Every individual makes a difference. MEETING NEWS Brian Macdonald indicated that RCKP had applied for number of grants to support the Downs Syndrome Reconstruction Project Club members were asked to speak with Wayne if the could assist with sourcing/ pricing items for the Reconstruction Project John Jackson and the Community Committee are investigating a second community based project to support this year. All suggestions are welcome. Negotiations are taking place with 3 schools to conduct a fund-raising Walkathon. RCKP is negotiating to partner with several community groups to raise funds by selling with Serafino wines. RCKP is investigating a cash donation to help stock the new refrigerator to being purchased for Nanna s Kitchen at Bowden Cottages. Club members indicated that a request of a $5.00 cash donation was the preferred option when compared with club members bringing cans of non-perishable groceries. Wayne proposed that RCKP sponsor students from Seaton High to attend the up-coming River Murray Youth Forum Paul Valente indicated an information evening would be organised for prospective new club members RCKP Annual Subscriptions: As of this coming Tuesday Meeting, only members who have paid their Annual Subscription Fees will be eligible to purchase tickets for the Joker Draw. 3
