The Victorian ATFA Inaugural Golf Day held at the Sandhurst Club on February 24 was a huge success on all fronts. There was some serious golfing going on, as the temperature hit the high thirties and the competition heated up. Michael Christian - Foster Floor Master was regarded as a spirited person. Mr Christian, 63, was well-known in the industry and regarded as a kind and committed individual, who put all his time and effort into helping others. He was training for The Murray to Port Fairy in 24 Hours fundraiser. Christian by name, Christian by nature. He is survived by his wife, Margie, and two children. ATFA send their condolences to Mrs Christian and Family. 6

10 Dwelling approvals strengthen in January 2012 Source: Australian Bureau of Statistics (cat no ) ABS Building Approvals show that the number of dwellings approved rose 0.9% in January 2012, in seasonally adjusted terms, following a fall of 0.8% in December. Dwelling approvals increased for the month of January in New South Wales (37.6%) and South Australia (6.9%) but fell in Queensland (-22.1%), Tasmania (-3.0%), Victoria (-2.7%) and Western Australia (-0.4%) in seasonally adjusted terms. In seasonally adjusted terms, approvals for private sector houses fell 0.1% in January with falls in Victoria (-6.7%) and New South Wales (-3.5%), while South Australia (10.5%), Queensland (6.2%) and Western Australia (2.9%) all rose. The value of total buildings approved increased 52.7% in January in seasonally adjusted terms, following an increase of 2.0% in December. The value of residential building increased 1.1% while non-residential building rose 131.8%. Download ATFA Information Sheet here VOLUNTEER NEEDED ATFA is looking for a volunteer (would suit a retired person) who can look after the ATFA tools and equipment. Most importantly spending a couple of days prior to a program making sure everything is there, the tool boxes are set up appropriately and everything is sharpened. Then a day after the program to stock take and again ensure everything is in order. This would occur once or twice per year. A trade background and good organisational skills would be desirable.
