3 About the Conference Conference Venue The Mira Hong Kong is the conference site of the 17th District 17 Conference to be held on September 2013 and Pre-conference activities on 12 September Most of the conference events will happen in the ballroom which is boasted as the largest pillar-less ballroom in Hong Kong. Proxy Certificate, Page 11 is to be sent to the District Secretary Friday, 13 September Orientation Sessions Delegates and Alternates: All delegates, alternates and proxies must attend the delegate and alternate training session about their responsibilities during the Conference and to learn the voting and election processes in detail so that the session can be conducted effectively and efficiently. First Timers This is a good opportunity for First Timers to know what to expect in the 3-days Conference.This orientation enables our First Timers to get energized, be fully informed and make new friends across the clubs among the countries of District 17. All First Timers please make sure that you do not miss this session. Tellers Monitors and Timekeepers Very important tasks are designated to our Volunteers as Tellers, Monitors and Timekeepers of our Election and 4 Call to Conference

5 Business Sessions. We offer training session in which they will be fully briefed of their responsibilities and the processes. Opening Ceremony and Gala Dinner This is the official start of the 17th District 17 Conference. The traditional flag parade with flags of the 5 countries and banners from each of the 72 Zonta clubs in District 17 will be an impressive parade with pride. It will create a vow experience for all of us especially the First Timers and Guests of our Zontians. Gala Dinner promises to be a memorable event with spectacular lion dances and a series of fun programmes lined up. On a more serious note, Mrs. Carrie Lam GBS, JP, Chief Secretary for Administration of Hong Kong Government, will deliver the keynote speech at the Gala Dinner. So please do not miss this important event to showcase the unity and team spirit of Zonta to this most influential woman in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Marketplace The Marketplace is open for in operations throughout the Conference. Vendors from Hong Kong and all the District 17 countries are invited to subscribe for a space to display their products. This will give you the convenience and fun of shopping right outside the Conference venue. As space is limited, please subscribe early. Just fill in the application form at Page 14 of this Call to Conference Saturday, 14 September Business Sessions Business Session starts morning of 14th and ends in the early afternoon of 15th. All business sessions will be conducted at 18th floor, Ballroom of The Mira Hong Kong. The business sessions will feature messages from International President & International Director, reports of the District Governor, District Treasurer, Area Directors, District Committee Chairs, the Nominating Committee and speeches from candidates eligible for election of biennium Luncheon Lunch on 14 September is included in the registration package. Be inspired by our Luncheon speaker while at the same time enjoy the venue, the menu and take home with food for thought. Our speaker at lunch is the Honourable Anna Wu GBS, JP, Non-Official Member of the Executive Council of Hong Kong. The title is Women Empowerment. Workshops Interactive workshops will be held with a distinguished panel of speakers and facilitators. Topics covered are: 1. Sustainability of Service Projects 2. Credibility & Visibility through Communication, Media and PR 3. Only delegates and working officers are allowed in the Election Room during the voting and counting processes. Memorial Service All Zontians are welcome to attend the memorial service to remember Zontians who have passed away during the Biennium. Club Presidents please fill the Memorial Service Form on Page 15 of this Call to Conference of any deceased club members during this period. Their contributions to Zonta should be remembered. Closing Ceremony and Gala Dinner Promise you an evening of exciting performances and best of upscale contemporary dining experience. There will be cultural performances, award presentations, Zontians will perform on stage. The highlights of the evening are two world class singers to serenade us. 6 International Board Liaison Officer Keynote Speaker Anita Schnetzer- Spranger International Board Liaison Officer Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, GBS, JP Anita Schnetzer-Spranger is a member of the Zonta Club of Mainz in Germany. Inspired by the internationality of Zonta, Anita joined at the age of 29. In the years since, she has served as club president, area director and most recently as Governor of District 28. Born and raised in Baden-Baden, Germany, Anita received a Master s degree in economics with a specialty in marketing from the University of Freiburg. After working for an international advertising agency in London and Düsseldorf for several years, Anita became Marketing Manager for an international cosmetics company in Mainz. She is currently a self-employed marketing consultant. As International Director for the Biennium, Anita s goal is to strengthen the visibility, recognition and impact of Zonta and to support Zonta members to identify with Zonta. Mrs Lam became a Principal Official on July 1, 2007 when she was appointed as Secretary for Development. Before assuming the post, Mrs Lam had served the Government as an Administrative Officer for about 27 years. She joined the Administrative Service in August 1980, and rose to the rank of Administrative Officer Staff Grade A1 in September Mrs Lam has served in various bureaus and departments. She was Director of Social Welfare from August 2000 to October 2003, Permanent Secretary for Housing, Planning and Lands (Planning and Lands) from November 2003 to May 2004, and Director-General of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London, from September 2004 to March She was Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs before her appointment as the Secretary for Development. Mrs Lam was appointed as the Chief Secretary for Administration on July 1, Luncheon & Workshop Speakers Hon Anna Wu GBS, JP Dr SUN Hongyi The Hon Anna Wu is a Non-Official Member of the Executive Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. She is Chairman of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority, a Director of the Financial Dispute Resolution Centre Limited, Council Member of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, and Chair of the Academic board for Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) of the University of Hong Kong. Ms Wu became a solicitor in a leading law firm after she received her Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Hong Kong in 1974 and her PCLL in Subsequently, she pursued a distinguished career with an outstanding record of public service. She was a Member of the Legislative Council and initiated the first private member s bill to protect rights to equal opportunities. She chaired the Equal Opportunities Commission, the Consumer Council, and the Operations Review Committee of the Independent Commission Against Corruption. She was also a Non-Executive Director of the Securities and Futures Commission. Ms Wu is a Justice of the Peace, and was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star in 2000 and the Gold Bauhinia Star in 2011 in recognition of her outstanding public service and contributions to Hong Kong. Dr SUN Hongyi holds a Bachelor degree in Computer Science from Harbin University of Science and Technology, a Master s degree in Management Engineering from the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), both in China, and a Ph.D. in Technology Management from Aalborg University in Denmark. He has taught at the Harbin Institute of Technology in China ( ) and the University of Stavanger in Norway ( ). Currently Dr SUN is an Associate Professor in the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management, City University of Hong Kong, where he also serves as programme leader and founding deputy programme leader of the Engineering Doctorate programme in Engineering Management, EngD(EM). His teaching and research areas include the management of technological innovation, operations strategy, quality management, and innovation education. Dr SUN resides on the editorial board of the International Journal of Technological Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Technology Management, the International Journal of Learning and Changes and International Journal of Quality and Reliability Management. Dr Sun was the winner of the Teaching Excellence Award in CityU in 2006 and Call to Conference
