3 TAVARES SEAPLANE BASE & MARINA FAA CALL CODE: FA1 UNICOM FREQUENCY: N W Seaplane Landing Area Map attached to end of packet Ramp: Any seaplane with a gross weight greater than 3,000 lbs or landing gear extending more than 36 inches need to approach with caution due to low water levels. Parking: Guides will be at the ramp to direct you to either beach or park on the tarmac. Fuel Sales: The Seaplane Base & Marina sells ethanol free 90 octane marine fuel and 100 octane low lead aviation fuel. Price will be set by the market. Prop Shop at Woodlea: The Prop Shop at the Seaplane Base & Marina is an historical replica of the Woodlea House and provides a unique setting for the sale of food, sundries, clothing and other marine and aviation related items. 4 NOTES FOR CONTESTANTS Competition Events Are: BOMB DROP SPOT & ACCURACY LANDINGS TAKE OFFS A RADIO IS REQUIRED. Use Frequency on/over lake and on the ramp or in the aircraft parking area. The person communicating with the aircraft is not functioning as a controller, but in an advisory capacity. The event advisor answers questions from pilots, coordinates and stages aircraft, and provides information of known traffic, time permitting, but gives no clearances. The safety of each flight is the pilot s responsibility and participation in any event is an acknowledgement by the pilot that he is solely responsible for the safety of his flight. These events are intended to be friendly competitions between pilots having a wide variety of skill levels. SAFETY and SPORTSMANSHIP should be the priority of each pilot. If traffic conditions warrant going around, then go around and you will be given another opportunity to complete the event. Make SAFETY your first concern. We are not in a hurry. We will try to be efficient, but safety will be our first concern as well. There is a single signup sheet for the events. Each pilot should complete the form (name, address, N number, etc.) and return it to the registrar at the registration table at the Prop Shop. The judges are volunteers and do the best they can in all circumstances. Your cooperation and patience is greatly appreciated. Awards will be given out! Listen on and the announcer s stand for call to event.

5 BOMB DROP & LANDING EVENT RULES A RADIO IS REQUIRED. Use Frequency on/over lake and on the ramp or in the aircraft parking area. BOMB DROP Three bombs (pumpkins) per flight. Set your altimeter to zero (on the water) and fly the drop zone at 200 feet. Pilots who are deemed to be low by the Judges/Air Boss will be disqualified. When airborne fall into line in the pattern and maintain visual contact with other traffic at all times. USE 800 TO 1,000 FEET AGL AS A TRAFFIC PATTERN ALTITUDE. Begin your descent to 200 feet on base leg and complete your descent on final. DO NOT DECEND BELOW 200 FEET ON THE DROP RUN. Turning final, radio your aircraft description. Example: Blue Lake Renegade zero one sierra commencing bomb run. The target will be a buoy that will be identified at the pilot briefing. After the first drop, climb back to pattern altitude (800 to 1,000 ft) AGL and repeat for second run. SPOT & ACCURACY LANDINGS After second bomb drop, climb back to pattern altitude and fall into line for the Spot Landing contest. Turning final, radio your aircraft description. Example: Yellow Cub one hotel bravo on final for spot landing. For the spot landing event, once power has been reduced on final, power cannot be added (unless there is a safety issue). Score will be distance from line between pair of buoys to point of last touchdown. Landing BEFORE the line will not count. For the power off accuracy landing, abeam the landing point (buoy) on downwind, the pilot should reduce power to idle and commence a power off 180 approach, managing energy to touchdown at the target point. Power should only be added for a safety issue.

6 TAKE OFF CONTEST RULES & CLASSES A RADIO IS REQUIRED. Use Frequency on/over lake and on the ramp or in the aircraft parking area. Competition will be by horsepower class and group number within that class. Take off will be aligned into the wind and toward the spot landing buoys. Flagman in the starting boat will stage the pairings. Pair up with another aircraft in your class on the water, at least 400 to 500 feet downwind from the start boat with engine at idle. You don t have to be exactly aligned with each other. Starter will raise the green flag when both aircraft appear ready. When the green flag drops, the FIRST aircraft clear of water without dropping back onto the water wins the heat. Continue the climb, enter the traffic pattern, and maintain visual contact with other traffic at all times. USE 800 TO 1,000 FEET AGL AS TRAFFIC PATTERN. Land clear of the competition. Winners of each heat taxi back to the staging area to engage the winner of the next heat until there is one winner for the horsepower class. All aircraft must have at least one hour of fuel on board.
