1 Scenario Training VGT - IWA This lesson is divided into two separate scenario flights; KVGT to 61B, and KVGT to KIWA. The first flight to 61B will emphasize a DP out of KVGT and IFR operations into an uncontrolled field. The second flight will emphasize another obstacle DP and closed tower operations. Along the route to KIWA, the student will experience an emergency that will require aeronautical (PIC) decision making and diversion to an alternate airport. This flight will also reinforce GPS usage and procedures. Flight 1 The first flight will be to Boulder City, NV; an uncontrolled VFR field just Southeast of Las Vegas. Emphasis of this flight will be proper compliance of the Boulder City Departure Procedure, and IFR operations and communications in an uncontrolled airport. The student will begin this lesson parked on the ATP ramp with the engines shutdown. They will be required to perform all checklists and procedures to get the aircraft running and holding short of the runway. When ready for clearance PILOT: North Las Vegas Clearance, Seminole 257AT. ATC: Seminole 257AT, North Las Vegas Clearance. PILOT: Seminole 257AT, ATP ramp, IFR Boulder City (6-1B). ATC: Seminole 257AT is cleared to the 6-1B airport via the Boulder One Departure, direct, squawk Filed Route: BLD1.BLD Departure Weather: KVGT ATIS information Alpha 1200Z 11005KT 10SM OVC30 25/01 A2992 Landing and departing runway 12R, Arrivals expect the Visual Approach runway 12R. Advise on initial contact you have information Alpha. Note: A clearance with a departure procedure relies on the pilot to look up the departure frequency and initial altitude. PILOT: Cleared to Boulder City, Boulder One Departure, direct, squawk 1311, Seminole 257AT. ATC: Seminole 257AT, read back correct. When ready to taxi PILOT: North Las Vegas Ground, Seminole 257AT, ATP Ramp, Alpha, taxi. ATC: Seminole 257AT, North Las Vegas Ground, taxi to runway 1-2R. PILOT: Taxi runway 1-2R, Seminole 257AT. 17

2 When ready for departure PILOT: North Las Vegas Tower, Seminole 257AT, holding short runway 1-2R at G, ready for departure. ATC: Seminole 257AT, right turn to intercept the Boulder City One Departure, runway 1-2R, cleared for takeoff. PILOT: Right turn to intercept the Boulder City One, cleared for takeoff, 1-2R, Seminole 257AT. At 700 AGL ATC: Seminole 257AT, contact departure. PILOT: Departure, Seminole 257AT. PILOT: Las Vegas Departure, Seminole 257AT, 700, climbing ATC: Seminole 257AT, radar contact, join the departure. PILOT: Join the departure, Seminole 257AT. When the student reaches the BLD VOR ATC: Seminole 257AT, fly heading 1-8-0, as you complete your turn, Boulder City Airport will be at your 12 o clock and 5 miles, report the field in sight. PILOT: 1-8-0, report field in sight, Seminole 257AT. PILOT: Seminole 257AT, Boulder City in sight. ATC: Seminole 257AT, no observed traffic between you and Boulder City airport, cleared visual approach into boulder city, change to advisory frequency approved, report IFR cancellation this frequency airborne or on the ground with Reno Flight Service frequency PILOT: Cleared visual approach, change to advisory, will report cancellation on the ground, Seminole 257AT. Normal VFR traffic reports and pattern entry. PILOT: Boulder City traffic, Seminole 257AT, is [position report] inbound full stop landing. Boulder City Traffic using Runway 9R Perform position reports as necessary PILOT: Boulder City traffic, Seminole 257AT turning final runway 9R, Boulder City. 3 The student will now taxi to the destination on the field making appropriate radio calls and cancel IFR flight plan. Example cancellation PILOT: Las Vegas Approach, Seminole 257AT. ATC: Seminole 257AT, Las Vegas Approach, go ahead. PILOT: Seminole 257AT, on the ground at Boulder City, Cancel IFR. ATC: Seminole 257AT, IFR cancellation received. PILOT: Roger, Seminole 257AT. If the pilot is unable to get a hold of approach on the ground, they may contact FSS and use the same communications above, replacing Las Vegas Approach with the appropriate name for the FSS station being contacted. i.e., Reno Radio, Seminole 257AT Flight 1 Emphasis: Proper loading DP into GNS 430 Proper application of the DP Proper Non-Towered IFR procedures and communications Close an IFR flight plans on the ground at a non-towered (or closedtowered) airport IFR cancellation options include: 1. Contact last Approach Frequency used May or may not have reception on the ground. 2. Find a local FSS frequency near a local VOR Identification Box. The frequency and FSS name will be listed above the box. For this flight plan, the nearest options include: i. South- GOFFS VOR has Riverside FSS listed G. The G means Riverside Radio Guards or Receives on and transmits on 114.4, the VOR Frequency. The Nav radio would have to be tuned and configured for voice in order to communicate using this frequency. It is likely this particular option will not work from the ground at Boulder City because of the distance and terrain between the two. ii. Southeast Kingman VOR has Prescott FSS listed. They receive (guard) transmissions on and transmit on This is also an unlikely option as Boulder City is likely too far away to send / receive transmissions effectively. iii. East Peach Springs VOR Prescott FSS transmits and receives on Contact local FSS frequency using frequency found on IFR LOALT chart near an Airport ID block. 4 Flight 2: Filed Route: NOTWN2.LAS CROWE V562 DRK V257 PXR Departure Weather: KVGT ATIS Information Charlie 1200Z 08008KT 10SM OVC020 35/M05 A29.84 Landing and departing runway 7, Arrivals expect the Visual Approach runway 7. Advise on initial contact you have ATIS information Charlie. Destination Weather: KIWA ATIS Information Delta 1300Z 28015KT 10SM OVC020 30/01 A29.92 Landing and departing runway 27L, Arrivals expect the ILS runway 27L. Advise on initial contact you have ATIS information Delta. The second flight will be planned to KIWA. This flight will use the NORTHTOWN TWO DEPARTURE (NOTWN2.LAS) Along The filed route to KIWA the student will experience an engine failure approximately half way to CROWN intersection. They will have to decide which diversion options are best for the flight. The student will be required to: Use the GNS 430 effectively throughout the lesson Load, understand, and fly published departure procedures Perform non-towered IFR operations Show positive aeronautical decision making Demonstrate knowledge of performance factors (normal and S.E.) during in a high density altitude atmosphere The student will be repositioned to runway 7 at VGT ready for departure. For this departure, they will load and fly the Northtown Two Departure Enroute to IWA. There will be an engine failure at the Boulder City VOR. The weather will be set to 2000 feet Overcast at Boulder City and McCarran. The student must make the decision to proceed to Boulder City (no instrument approaches), or divert to McCarran (with instrument approaches). Factors to be discussed can include, but are not limited to: Weather and instrument procedures available Single-Engine Performance S.E. Service Ceiling, drift down, etc. Airport suitability Runway length, surface condition, etc. Availability of services upon landing CFR (Crash Fire Rescue), etc. The communications for flight 1 and 2 will be very similar until the engine failure at Boulder City VOR. 20

5 IFR Clearance Communications: ATC: Seminole 257AT is cleared to the Mesa Gateway Airport via the Northtown Two Departure, as filed, expect 1-1 thousand 1-0 minutes after departure, squawk 1311 Note: A clearance with a departure procedure often relies on the pilot to look up the departure frequency and initial altitude. Departure frequencies can vary depending on the runway in use or direction of flight. Note: Don t confuse the expected altitude with the initial altitude. PILOT: Cleared to Gateway, Northtown Two Departure, as filed, expect 1-1 thousand 1-0 minutes after departure, squawk 1311, Seminole 257AT. ATC: Seminole 257AT, read back correct. When ready for departure PILOT: North Las Vegas Tower, Seminole 257AT holding short runway 7 at Golf, ready for departure. ATC: Seminole 257AT, turn right, heading to intercept the Northtown Two departure, runway 7, cleared for takeoff. PILOT: Right to to intercept the departure, cleared for takeoff, runway 7, Seminole 257AT. At 700 AGL ATC: Seminole 257AT, contact departure. PILOT: Departure, Seminole 257AT. When the student reaches the BLD VOR an engine will fail. Reinforce Aviate, Navigate, and Communicate Once the aircraft is under control, the following communications can be used: What is Driftdown? 6 If 61B ATC: Seminole 257AT, turn right, direct Boulder City Airport, descend and maintain 3000 feet, advise the airport in sight. PILOT: Direct Boulder City Airport, 3000, will advise the airport in sight, Seminole 257AT. ATC: Seminole 257AT, state your fuel remaining and souls on board. PILOT: 4 ½ hours of fuel remaining, 2 souls on board, Seminole 257AT. When field in sight PILOT: Seminole 257AT, Boulder City in sight. ATC: Seminole 257AT, no observed traffic between you and Boulder City airport, cleared visual approach into boulder city, change to advisory frequency approved, report IFR cancellation this frequency airborne or on the ground with Reno Flight Service frequency PILOT: Cleared visual approach, change to advisory, will report cancellation on the ground, Seminole 257AT. Make vector adjustments to place student just outside NODIY, but inside CODNO. 2 miles prior to inbound course ATC: Seminole 257AT, you are 3 miles from NODIY, maintain 5 thousand, 1 hundred until established, you are cleared for the ILS 1L into McCarran, contact Las Vegas Tower PILOT: 5 thousand, 1 hundred until established, cleared for the ILS 1L, Tower , Seminole 257AT. PILOT: Las Vegas Tower, Seminole 257AT, outside NODIY. ATC: Seminole 257AT, Las Vegas Tower, cleared to land, runway 1L, the trucks are standing by. PILOT: Cleared to land 1L, Seminole 257AT. The lesson will conclude with the successful landing at either McCarran or Boulder City. If additional time remains, The student can be placed in flight over Boulder City VOR for another engine failure and alternate diversion scenario. LESSON END 23
