1 NORDIC Ultralight Airrace 2013 Promoted by: Nordic Light Aviation likes to invite you to a new and exciting flying competition exclusively for Ultralight aircrafts. The purpose of this competition is that we Ultralight flyers comes together and have some fun and hang out under pleasant terms, and by this we also want to create a greater interest and attention for the Ultralight aviation as a strong option for new, young and older pilots. Revenue from the event will go to support youth activities like Young Wings - on Eslöv Airport. You can read more about Young Wings on their web: Main sponsor of the competition is the Nordic Light Aviation, which has its import and sales activities for UL/LSA aircraft and avionics on Eslövs airport - ESME. The competition takes place in cooperation with Eslövs UL flying club, Eslövs Young Wings and Stonab AB. When is the competition? We plan to run the race on Saturday, August 24, starting 9.00! Who can participate? For everyone that wants to have a funny day together with other Ultralight pilots. You can compete as individuals or represent a club. You only need a flying permitted Ultralight aircraft with a radio, if so you are invited to participate in the competition. Registration for the contest Maximum amount of aircrafts is set to 20. When we reached 20, we will approve extra 5-10 participants to cover if we get cancellations. Subscription and entry fee must be paid and received not later than July 15. Please note that registration is binding after July 15 and fees will be non-refundable. Registration can easily be done by visiting Eslövs UL club website Confirmation of your registration will be by mail, it can take between 1-2 days before you are notified. If we have to cancel the competition due bad weather conditions, we will offer a new date that will be announced by mail to all participants. 2 Racing tournament, race The competition is meant to be a pleasant all day event and the competition is divided into four races where each race are valued with equal points wise. This is to make it fair for all participating aircrafts and pilots. Competition agenda and activities at ESME 09:00 - Briefing and review of the various competition conditions and the starting order 10:00 - Race 1 starts Race 2 starts immediately after completion of the Race 1 12:00-13:30 Lunch and common collection's post and the ESME 14:00 - Race 3 starts, finished about 15: Race 4 starts, finished about 16:45 18:00 - Awards Ceremony - joint dinner and tournament closing Race 1 - Calculate flying time on a fixed leg/route. s In good time before the race (1-2 days before), you have the ability to download from the maps showing the distance that you will fly. You must before the competition estimate by calculation exactly for how long time it will take you to fly the leg/route: ESME - ESTL (this example). You announce your total flight time in minutes and seconds to the competition management before starting. All participants will start from ESME with 3-4 min intervals. When lift off or crossing the runway 12/30 in a given direction the timer starts. Later, when you pass your arrival point at the destination the time will stop. The participant that has the best time in relation to announced time wins the race. Once you have passed your arrival point you continue directly to starting of the next Race(2). You do this by bringing up Map 2 and proceed to the starting point for Race 2. Competition rules If we use starting line at ESME, you must cross this line before you start flying then specified distance, and when arrival you must cross the finish line on the destination. You may not perform any 360 turns during the flight; if you do you will be disqualified. S-turns are permitted to extend the time in the air. Appliances such as GPS, stop watch is allowed. Everyone that manage their time + / - 2 min to the finish line at the destination gets 5 contribution points. The five participants with the most accurate estimated arrival times gets: 1st place - 5 points 2nd place - 4 points 3rd place - 3 points 4th place - 2 points 5th place - 1 point

3 Race 2 - Find land marks on a predefined route. 2 When you started Race 1 you will get a second map (map 2). This map(2) has a starting point (star sign) marked about 1-2 Nm from ESME, it's shows three legs/routes on the map between 4 mapping marks. You get 5 numbered pictures showing landmarks, 2 of these images are wrong. There are 3 obvious landmarks that appear on any of these routes. You must fly according to the map(2) and find these landmarks and mark them with an X on the map you got and then put a mark on the right image with the number on the leg/route. Example: picture 2, on leg/route When you have passed the last land mark are ready to fly back to ESME and announce your approach and land. Now you have earned your lunch break! Competition rules Equipment as GPS is allowed to use. You are not allowed to turn around and fly back on any route, you may not even make 360 º turns. If you break the rules you can be disqualified from the competition. 0 error - 5 points 1 error - 4 points 2 error - 3 points 3 error - 1 point LUNCH, at hours, and gathering at ESME We will provide simpler meals for you to buy for low prices, such as hamburgers, hot dogs and beverage. Race 3 - Precision landing at ESME You must before the race start notify the competition management if you want to do 1 or 2 landing attempts. You should consider whether you intend to use 1 or 2 landing attempts or not, there are both pros and cons of 2 landings. If you choose to make 2 attempts, your total result will be calculated as an average of your first and second attempts. If you lands 25 meter from the ZERO line on the first attempt and 45 meter on the second attempt to get your final result of 35 meter. You will be called by radio from the competition leader when you should get ready to start your landing. If you are instructed to fly to a waiting zone and wait for your landing approach you must do so. You are responsible for your own visual separation in the air between your and other aircrafts. You will be called by the competition leader to begin your landing and will now try to land your plane fully stalled out with the main landing gear of a touchdown point as close and preferably to ZERO line that is marked on the runway. The judge assesses at which or between which lines you put both wheels which you receive your points. Contest Rules If you land your plane and make a touchdown with the main landing gear before the ZERO line, you have failed and will be removed from this race(3).

4 Race 4 Question quiz about GA/Ultralight and about Nordic Light Aviations home page. Now we have the last challenge for the day, and this is about knowledge and questions regarding: - Common knowledge of General Aviation, EASA - Questions about the Ultralight flying and rules - Questions about Nordic Light Aviation's website and its suppliers' websites. To answer correctly, you should study a little about common Ultralight rules, about GA and EASA and rules. A good idea is to read through the Nordic Light Aviation's website carefully and determine what products, aircraft and manufacturers they are representing. You will receive a questionnaire with 20 questions with simple X answers 1 to 3 or more options, only one answer is correct. Contest Rules You may not use a computer, tablet or mobile phone during the time you answer the questions. Each correct answer gives 0.5 points. All correct answers gives a total score of 10 points. Prize ceremony and BBQ buffet for all participants When all results from the competitors is received the competition committee starts the final counting and compilation of contest results. Once this is done, an awards ceremony will be held with representatives from the Nordic Light Aviation and Eslövs UL flying club. We finish and complete the day with a great barbecue buffet in the afternoon/evening. Nordic Light Aviation invites all participants and officials at this pleasant event and we finish the day by just having a good time.

5 Conditions and rules to participate You compete as an individual or as the representative of a club. To participate, you must have a type certificated (in the country you come from) Ultralight aircraft, as well as a valid Permit-to-fly for the aircraft. The entire event will be conducted in G airspace, it is not permitted to fly in or through controlled airspace to earn time. We will provide you with printed maps over the flying areas, but for accuracy you should bring your own approved flight map over Skåne(south of Sweden) with you. If you want to have a PAX with you on the plane you must have a certificate of liability insurance for passenger/pax. You must have a working radio installed and turned on throughout the competition. GPS is allowed to use then it will not be seen as an advantage. For each race and subsection you get detailed instructions with predetermined radio frequencies, maps and other materials needed during the race. It is not allowed to communicate with other participants or other ground except race officials, cell phones are not allowed to be brought with you in the aircraft during the competition. You have the responsibility for visual air separation and surveillance in the airspace you entering. You fly at your own risk, at your own cost and insurance for the aircraft, pilot, passanger/pax If you violate any of the rules, you may be immediately disqualified from the competition Accommodation / camping It is possible to free camp on the field. We are also able to offer sleeping at our premises on ESME for a fee of 100 SEK(12 EUR) person/night. This fee is paid locally to the head of ESME airfield and locations. Available sleeping places are limited to a maximum of 10 people.
