33 VISUAL ARTS NEW JOURNEYS BY DAMIEN SHEN 30 OCTOBER - 6 DECEMBER 2015 Damien Shen is a proud South Australian Aboriginal and Chinese man of Ngarrindjeri descent and draws both of these powerful formative influences into his practice as an artist. Damien s drawing technique uses a pastel base that is then worked up and worked back with erasers and black and white charcoals, to create a dynamic, shifting tension between black and white, shadow and light. It is out of this interplay that the form of the picture starts to emerge and lines coalesce to form not just an image but a narrative - a reflection of an identity that, like the drawing, is only arrived at through a long process of creation, erasure, and struggle. HEALING HEARTS AND MINDS 11 DECEMBER JANUARY 2016 SUSANNE WEGENER & JANET RALEIGH The exhibition features 16 black and white prints on vinyl displayed on pvc frames. The prints have a strong message for women about self esteem and self empowerment. The images depict women s emotions through facial expressions and the accompany text provokes thought about how women use their power to have their needs met. Features 2d, 3d, projection and audio components.
