1 Beacon of the month Port Cabrillo, California Published by Delmarva Unit 026 WBCCI Beacon Delmarva March-April 2008 Page 1 Officers President: Margaret Morris cw.me.morris2366@verizon.net Hello, President s Message 1st Vice-President: Carl Morris 2nd Vice President: Chuck Helwig HelwigMa@netzero.net Recording Secretary: Iva Lee Carter ivaca@access4less.net Treasurer: Frank Blunda frankblunda@verzion.net Corresponding Secretary: Carl Morris Membership: Roger Sansom rogerealtor@comcast.net Newsletter: Malcolm & Sue Comstock malvermont63@yahoo.com Sunshine: Kay Runyon deerhavn@msn.com I hope everyone is in good health, and enjoying the good weather that we have had this winter. Thanks to Connie and Tom Littel for a wonderful luncheon to celebrate Valentine s Day. We had 25 members present; we were sorry to hear that Millie Brown, Bert Mitchell, and our hostess Connie were all under the weather and could not join us as planned. The food was great and the fellowship was wonderful. The luncheons are such good ways to keep in touch over the winter months. You will find news from our region in this issue, please read the motions #4, #5, #6 carefully and let me know your opinion. Pres. Don McKelvay has requested a response from our membership. Carl and I will leave for Florida February 26, you can call on the cell phone or send me , or just drop a postcard in the mail to our home address. Have you sent in your reservations for the St Patrick's Day luncheon? John and Millie are planning for a good time. Reservation forms were in the last Beacon. We are looking forward to our first rally in April, Clyde has been working hard to insure that everything will go well. Parkview is also having a rally for those who wish to attend. I understand the price is lower than last year. To my knowledge Carl and I and Millie Brown and John Chromy are the only ones going to the Region #2 rally. If anyone else is planning to go please let me know. We have been assigned Tuesday morning breakfast and I need to know how many members I will have for the task. I look forward to seeing everyone in April, stay healthy, be happy, we will see you down the road. Margaret Point Cabrillo Lighthouse was built after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake to help warn ships carrying lumber to the city away from the coastal shoals. Its lens was illuminated for the first time on June 10, 1909, under head keeper Wilhelm Baumgartner. Many of the buildings from that time are still standing today.
2 By: Mary Ann Parks Valentine s Day Luncheon It was a beautiful, sunny day on Saturday, February 16, as twenty- five members of the WBCCI Delmarva Unit met at the Wayside Inn in Smyrna, Delaware, for a special Valentine Day lunch. We had our own private room and personal servers, who were very gracious and accommodating. The meal was delicious, and we appreciated being able to order from the menu. We enjoyed being with old friends and making some new friends as well. Unfortunately, Connie Littel, Millie Brown, and Bert Mitchell were unable to attend because of illness. Charles and Iva Lee Carter s grandson, Justin Peacock, won the prize for being the youngest guest under forty and Dottie Pierce won the other prize-playing cards. President Margaret Morris welcomed the group, and we all thanked Tom and Connie Littel for planning this fun event. D.J. Runyon offered the Grace before the meal. Thank you, Margaret, for the yummy table favors, and providing the prizes as well. A good time was had by all, and we hope to see each one of you at the St. Patrick s Day Luncheon on Friday, March 14. 7 2009 Caravan to the International Rally in Madison, Wisconsin We have been asked by our Vice President (Carl Morris) to organize a caravan to the International Rally in Madison, Wisconsin in Before I start that task I need to know if there is any interest by our members to participate in such an event. The caravan would begin in early June and end around June 24 th at the International Rally parking site. The Caravan would travel through a portion of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin. The rendezvous site would be determined at a later date. The travel would be split up between US/State highways and Interstate highways. Some potential stops could be historic sites, manufacturing facilities i.e., Airstream factory, Longaberger Basket company, museums and many more. If you are interested in participating and have any suggestions on places to see, stay and/or visit please, please let us know. There would certainly be a lot to see and do along the way and it would require the participants to help with many of the tasks, i.e., parking and de-parking, tours, dinners, daily journal reports, etc. If you are interested in participating in this caravan please fill out the form below and mail it to us at P.O. Box 340, Betterton, MD Clyde Warden & Claire Connelly, Delmarva Unit Caravan Leaders Page 7 Cut Here Name: Member Number: Address: Address: Telephone Number: Suggestions on places to visit while on this caravan: St. Patrick s Day Luncheon Last Chance!!!!!
