1 JUNE HPDA NEWSLETTER ISSUE 6 HEART OF PINELLAS DECORATIVE ARTISTS - PINELLAS CHAPTER OF SOCIETY OF DECORATIVE PAINTERS (SDP) President s Message Toni s Tidbits Hello my fellow HPDA members, Hope everyone is doing well. I was rather disappointed to hear that only six members attended the May UFO meeting. I guess it shows me that if we don t have a structured meeting and program, minimal members will come. Thank you to all the members that did show up. Now, onto the SDP Conference in Daytona Beach. It was a wonderful time and smiles on the faces of all who attended. Day 1 - Tuesday, May 8 - Arrived around 1:00pm. Checked in and went to room. Toni Van Kirk, Sharon Sands and I roomed together. At 5:00 we went to the conference center and picked up our paperwork for the conference. Then we stayed right there and sat with other attendees and attended the Meet and Greet from 7-9pm. Day 2 - Wednesday, May 9 - Had an 8:00am class with Margot Clark until noontime. Then had a class with Bev Davis at 5:00 pm. Class over early so then went to the Chapter Gatherings from 7-9pm. Day 3 - Thursday, May 10 - Annual Meeting at 9am. Nominated from the floor by Toni Van Kirk for Board Member at Large, and elected to the SDP Board. You can view a live recording on the SDP website of the Annual meeting. All the revisions of the By Laws and Standing Rules were passed. Then the Awards Committee gave me the award for The Outstanding Chapter Award for VERY surprised and pleased. Then had a stroke class with Kay Baranowski until 5:00. 2 President s Message - Toni s Tidbits, Continued... Day 4 - Friday, May 11 - Had a class with Mark Polomchak from 10:00-5:00. Finished the project!!!! Then attended the Luau Banquet and it was wonderful. Food was good and Hawaiian dancers were great. Day 5 - Saturday, May 12 - Checked out and on the road again. Had a great time and next year the conference will be in Wichita, Kansas. Waiting to hear the dates. If you want any additional details about the conference, just ask Toni VanKirk, Sharon Sands or Jennifer Hoffer. Or, I should say, some of the behind the scenes details!! Paint with a Smile, 1ST Vice president - MICHAELLE GROVER - PROGRAMS June Program Hello ladies! Hope you had/having a great May. I would just like to take a moment and thank the ladies who came to the meeting and based the ornaments. Thanks to Virginia Wilson, Chris Wolfe, Laura Prokop, Grace Grover, Ruth Johnson, and Janie Snow. We had much fun and were able to get all of the ornaments done. June s project will be decorating the ornaments. We will paint, stamp, etc. So, please bring usual painting supplies. More hands make lighter work. Come paint, have fun and a great birthday lunch. There is no fee for this month. Thanks so much to Virginia Wilson for heading this endeavor for our philanthropic work. This is for our Festival of Trees donation. All of the tree supplies are being furnished by Virginia. See you at June s Meeting - Michaelle Grover Festival of Tree s Ornament Program June 2, Virginia Wilson Hello again, the Christmas Tree Elf here. Thanks to the ladies who came to the meeting in May for helping to base and sand the wooden blanks for the Festival of Tree s philanthropic project.

3 These ornaments do not all need to be painted, they could be stamped, decoupaged, or just glittered. The basic idea is to have an Ocean Theme and to have fun while giving back some of our talent to a very worthy cause. I hope everyone joins in this worthwhile project and that we have fun doing it. I have more than 200 ornament blanks of which 16 are glass balls, 12 are assorted satin balls, about 25 ceramic ornaments, 12 large resin starfish, and the rest are wooden shapes including snowflakes, stars, Christmas trees, seahorses, palm tree cutouts, dolphins, sail boats, and birds, in addition to other designs. I have several patterns to paint on the wooden blanks and will also bring some special paints as well as alcohol inks to finish the painting projects. If you have a special COASTAL OR BEACHY PATTERN that can be used on the ornaments, please bring them. If you have a special stamp that you can use to design an ornament around the theme, please bring it to the June meeting as I hope to have them painted before we leave the meeting. I have patterns that include a very cute surf s up, various sea shells, beach chairs, and different coastal ideas that can be incorporated into our theme of Florida Sea Side Treasures or if anyone can come up with another catchy title we can decide on that later. You will need your favorite brushes, remembering that most of the ornaments are not real big so smaller brushes will be necessary. Bring your normal painting supplies and your imagination to make this a really fun tree. We will be base coating the back of the ornaments before the meeting so come early and let s have fun! Virginia Wilson - Festival of Trees Program JULY PROGRAM - Sherrie Colgain Here is the July project I will be teaching. "Seas the Day Cost -$6.00 Includes Tag & Easel Supplies needed: 3/4" flat, 1/2" & 3/4" angle, a liner brush or small round and a 1/2" stencil brush, palette knife, toothbrush or spatter tool.

We're still working on directories and, as of yet, have not come up with a release date, however, we will keep you posted. We are looking forward to seeing all of you in June for our 21st birthday! This would appear to be a good thing but I am afraid I am not receiving notification of members who may need a Thinking of You card for any variety of reasons. Try to remember to call me or text me when you hear of someone needing a note of encouragement. Thanks! LOCATION: Faith Community Church Walker Ave. N, Seminole, Florida The doors open at 8:30 am for Social Hour. Come early to enjoy breakfast items and coffee. The business meeting starts at 10:00 am. Costs to Members will be $30.00 each - Visitors/Guests - $40.00 per person. Normally with food, beverages and desserts, the cost would be over $40.00 per person or more. We will have a sign up sheet in June for members and their guests that would like to attend and will need some sort of count to turn in so I may get started with our festivities Sonja Sindell will be taking payments that can be made in increments if you do not wish to pay all at once.
