1 WBCCI Region 2 Unit 026 The Delmarva March 2013 PRESIDENT S LETTER Beacon Hello Delmarva Friends, Happy Spring!!! I know those of you up North look forward to the warm, sunny days of Spring! Many of our Delmarva snowbirds have spent the past month recovering from various illnesses that left them unable to fully enjoy the warm, sunny days in Florida. Our prayers and thoughts go out to them, and we look forward to celebrating their recoveries. Thank you Connie and Tom Littel, for a wonderful Valentine s Luncheon at the Trevi Restaurant on February 16th. Everyone enjoyed being together and celebrating that Special Day. I so appreciate our very willing and capable Hosts and Hostesses for the Unit events! Without you, Delmarva would not be the great Unit that it is:-) WBCCI has placed Unit information for prospective members on their website- You will find a dedicated section for each Unit on the Regions page. WBCCI is trying to encourage Airstream owners to assign themselves to a specific Unit rather than a Member at large. I have updated our information for Delmarva, and you are invited to check it out. FYI: it is unlikely that a Region 2 Rally will take place. However, Region 4 is hosting their Rally in Lewisburg, WV, which may provide an alternative to those interested in attending a rally in May.... stay tuned...! 2 Editorial - For many of the snowbirds I am sure that one Airstream RVing season melts easily into the next. However, as an Airstream owner who winterizes and stays in the cold north, March always means time to open that rig and get it ready to roll. Welcome March! As I have warned I am interested in trying new things with the newsletter, while still remembering to retain it as a source of information on what has happened and what is yet to come. The full page photo on the cover is a photo by George Wefelmeyer of Chestertown taken at one of their annual family trips to Outer Banks. Many thanks to George and wife Martha for allowing me to use the photo. I have access to a number of photos of other light houses or general scenes from a number of different people and hope to continue to use those photos from time to time, particularly the ones that give evidence of a beacon. Again I send a big thank you to those persons who send articles and photos of events. It takes that wonderful cooperation to produce this newsletter. 3 2013 DELMARVA & KEYSTONE JOINT MAINTENANCE RALLY April 26th through the 28th at the Queen Anne 4-H Park in Centreville, Md. Learn how to check for problems and perform maintenance on your rig. Test equipment and recommended chemicals will be provided. Cost will be $70 per rig with two people ($15 for each additional person), $55 for one person in a rig, and children under 12 are free. The fee includes two nights camping, maintenance supplies, ice cream, Saturday breakfast and dinner, and Sunday breakfast. Friday dinner on your own list of local restaurants will be available at the rally site. If you are interested in a potluck dinner on Friday please check the appropriate space on the registration form. Arrival after 10:00 AM on Friday upon entering the park there will be several tests done prior to parking, i.e., light check, break lights, brake controller, etc. If you attended a previous Maintenance Rally, and have your maintenance check list from that rally, please bring it with you and have it available upon entering the park so it can be used again this year. If you did not attend a previous Maintenance Rally, or do not have your checklist from that rally, there will be new forms available. The forms are filled out on each participant s rig documenting the maintenance performed, and should be kept with your rig to serve as a record of said maintenance. The refrigerator check will satisfy Dometic s refrigerator check requirement. Tests can include the tow/towed vehicle, if desired. Each camper will do their own tests; the technicians will help where necessary. Specialty wrenches will be supplied. There may be a community project on Saturday at the park for those who are able and willing to participate. The project will involve the cleaning up of leaves and other debris, and the planting of flowers. Those willing to participate are asked to bring garden gloves, leaf rakes, potting trowels and any other garden tools they might find helpful with this project. A hearty group of ten persons and an equal number of darlings embraced the opportunity to meet at the Trevi Restaurant in Smyrna, DE for the annual Valentine s Day Luncheon. While the weather was threatening all weekend to end a happy relationship between Airtstreamers being able to travel easily and having to stay home, the roads were open and clear and twenty Airstream affectionados joined heart and soul to be at the luncheon. Not unlike all gatherings of close friends, there is much talk and affection and then things settle down a bit to almost total quiet and humdrum as the admirers get serious about fortifying the body with some good food. Tom & Connie Littel did a fine job hosting the event and making all feel welcome. With all due respect to Forrest Gump, Connie provided a box of chocolates which were all the same kind and in a heart shaped box. Delicious! My favourite musician: J S Bach. Writer: Richard Bach. Actress: Barbara Bach. I guess I can t think outside the Bachs. 4

He had two stents put in this evening and is spending the night in the recovery room. He was alert and feeling well when we left around 8:00 p.m. He will be in the hospital for a day or two. Thank you for your prayers and concern. Blessings, Frances In addition to Boots, Stan and Nelia have each had health issues while in Florida and at last word are doing well. Frank & Kay Cruchley have had some upper respiratory issues while in Florida. Peg Talbott still has some health issues, but was well enough to get to Florida too. That always makes folks feel better. Many wishes that all the members who are having problems are feeling better. Remember, if there is a health issue, let Bobbie Smith know. 6 Polly Parrot Party Flamingo Fling Februrary 26th Our Delmarva Unit snowbirds and friends enjoyed a fun evening together at our Florida winter home. Forty-two folks gathered for a wonderful catered dinner, games, and the infamous Chinese Auction gift exchange. We began the evening with working on our own Polly Parrot word find place mats that Betsy Behler provided. A prize was provided for the most words found. Dinner was followed by Pin the Beak on the Toucan, and the Gift Exchange. Mary Ann Parks shared the history of the Flamingo Fling with our guests, as well as thanking the non- Airstreamers for enabling Travelers Rest RV Resort Park to help us continue to provide a Five Star Good Sam Park. The 2013 Flamingo Fling/Polly Parrot Party was a big success. Our own Polly Parrot was invited to join the Flamingoes this year, because she was a little upset that she wasn t included in the past. We appreciate everyone who attended, and look forward to seeing them, as well as those unable to attend this year, at our 2014 Fling. Our Goal: For every WBCCI Unit to attend a Wounded Warrior Boot Camp: by starting a Wounded Warrior Project fundraiser this year.
