Past President patriciapaschall@att.net Presidents' Corner Hello All, Well you would not think spring is here with the weather so cool and rainy. We cannot complain because we had great weather for our rally at Four Oaks last weekend. The campground had recently been remodeled. It was an old KOA and was bought out and the new owners have made a beautiful campground. They have several nice meeting places for their guest to use. Todd and Debbie were our host and hostess for the weekend. This was their first time to plan the weekend for the Piedmont Unit. Boy!! What a wonderful job they did. We were all treated to a delicious meal on Thursday night. We had a very good crowd for our first rally of the year. Those in attendance were: Bennett, Becker,Hamernick, Karakos, Moore, Perryman,Schradie,Shelton, Stroud, Neebe,Townsend, and Guy. We also had as our guest, former WBCCI President Barry and Lesley Heckenswiler. They were on their way home from spending the winter in Florida and stopped at this campground. We asked them to join us for dinner and we enjoyed their company. We had a tour to Howell Woods, a Tobacco Museum, and Double Barley Brewing. On Saturday night we went to the famous Rudy Theatre to "American Music Jubilee". It was a wonderful show and what amazed us that all the entertainers were from the local areas. A great night was had by all. Sunday morning we were served a nice breakfast by our host and hostess before our great weekend came to an end. Thanks again Todd and Debbie. We were sorry to hear from the Paschalls that they had a terrible hailstorm on Wednesday. They had damage to their car, truck, home and trailer. He will not be able to get his trailer fixed until sometime in June. Our thoughts are with them because we know what a hassle it is to deal with these things. We were happy to announce that Becky Woods is home from rehab. and is still having treatments at home. She is doing much better but we need to keep Dean and Becky in our prayers. I announced that I would not be able to go to International this year. Bill Townsend has agreed to go and be the delegate for me. I appreciate his help in matter. We look forward to going to the Region III Rally. I think we have 11 units going with us. We will meet and Bob Bennett will lead us all in so we can be parked together. We had a great start to our rally season, so make your plans to come and join us for our "FUN, FELLOWSHIP,and FOOD. See you down the road!! John

For those who plan to go to the R3 rally, here is our arrival plan. We currently have 15 members joining the caravan. If you wish to be included but have not taken any action, you may still come.

You will have to make your own reservations at the noted campgrounds and let Bob Bennett know you are coming. At 9am on 4/29 we will depart from Camp Pedro at South of the Border and travel the145 miles to the Kangaroo Express at Summerville (should take about 3 hours). At 1pm we will depart Kangaroo Express and travel the remaining 5 miles to the rally site. Those not joining us at Camp Pedro, please plan to be at the Kangaroo Express by 12:30 so that you can travel to the rally site with us (if you wish to park with us). Everyone going to the Rally, please let me know (if you have not already done it) so I do not miss anyone. 3 MEMBERSHIP REPORT Every member can recruit a member! Seems like a really good motto for our unit. John and Thelda Guy met a potential member at the NC Visitor's Center on I-77 at the state line south of Charlotte who is interested in joining. I've sent her materials and hope to hear from her soon. Another potential member visited our rally site in April at Raleigh Oaks RV Resort and met several of our unit members. He has a vintage '56 Airstream that is highly polished, from all reports I've received. I've been in contact via telephone and and hope he will join soon. He said he met lots of friendly folks at the rally...that's what it takes: friendly people welcoming other friendly people to the world of Airstreaming. Jerry Shelton gave him a brochure and a membership application...thanks, Jerry. I'll send you some more! Last month I mentioned Sherman and Susan Merchant who live on Lake Gaston. They are still very interested in joining but have been working with their dealer to find and fix a leak in the roof. I hope to hear very soon that they have joined our unit. Well, Pat and I have been grounded since the big hailstorm here on April 8th. Our Airstream trailer, "Arlene," is parked at Capital City Customs under the watchful eyes of Dan and Lisa Matthews. Lots of damage to the plastic covers on the roof (Fantastic Fan, A/C, bathroom vent fans, bedroom vent cover, refrigerator cover), TV antenna, front and rear caps...lots of dents from golf ball size hail. It got our vehicles, too. The Outback is out of the shop with a new windshield and dents repaired. The Chevy truck is in the shop for its turn. The house will require a new roof, two new windows, a new garage door, and other assorted fixes. We're fine but just traversing the paperwork drill to get things done. The storm took us out of a unit rally the second weekend in April and the Region 3 Rally the end of April/first of May. We hope Dan and Lisa can get things repaired in time for our July rally in Mt. Airy, which Pat and I are hosting. Speaking of that July rally, we have arranged the Ghost Tour of Mayberry and the historic homes in Mt. Airy for that rally. A nice dinner at the Depot and time to tour the Blue Ridge, visit Shelton Vineyards or eat a pork chop sandwich at the Snappy Lunch on Main Street are on the agenda for a great treat in the cooler temps of Surry County.
