June 2017 Keystone Kourier Keystone Unit - Region 2 - WBCCI President s Message Hello Keystoners, Does anyone know how many Keystoners it takes to fix a pot of coffee?

In both cases it takes 4: 1 to mix the batter, to fill the filter, to cook the waffle, to heat the coffee, serve the dish and fill up the cup; and then 3 to supervise and do the taste testing!

There was plenty to do in the area and weather cooperated, alternating between Summer heat and Spring cool. The food was Keystone gourmet i.e. outstanding.

Of course the main dishes were supplemented by an array of delicious sides provided by all the participants.

How about to make a Belgian waffle? Well we found out a couple weeks ago at the May joint rally with the Central Penn Unit. In both cases it takes 4: 1 to mix the batter, to fill the filter, to cook the waffle, to heat the coffee, serve the dish and fill up the cup; and then 3 to supervise and do the taste testing! Next time we ll try to become more efficient by eliminating the cook. It was an excellent gathering with a good turnout from our group as well as from the Central Penn and NJ Watchung units. There was plenty to do in the area and weather cooperated, alternating between Summer heat and Spring cool. The food was Keystone gourmet i.e. outstanding. Rick and Andy outdid themselves, smoking pork for the pulled pork sandwiches, carving a ham, and offering a breakfast buffet that could rival the Marriot! Of course the main dishes were supplemented by an array of delicious sides provided by all the participants. To top things off, the Pitts offered a Coldstone Creamery style make-your-own ice cream sundae buffet. It doesn t get any better than that. Glamping at its finest! Stay Connected Keystone on the web Following our resident Pastor Don Harrington s devotional we held a Keystone Unit Executive Committee meeting. 2 - Unit dues will be maintained at $15 for next year - Howard and Don were named Delegate and Alternate Delegate respectively to the International Rally in Escanaba - We will provide two $25 camping related gift cards as door prizes for the upcoming Region 2 rally in the Finger Lakes of New York - Howard was authorized to sign and return for our unit the WBCCI sublicense agreement relating to the use of Airstream Company trademarks - A nominating committee was appointed to prepare a slate of officers for the season. This is an extremely important task as we currently have at least one vacancy and uncertainty regarding candidates for next year s President. - Rick and Andy were named the Kourier s Publishers while Melissa and Jonathan remain as Contributing Editors. - It was confirmed that the Unit would cover the cost of food for the May rally. We will endeavor to have a similar event annually in which we host a joint rally with another unit and cover the cost of food as a good will gesture. Don t forget the Region 2 rally being held at the Pine Creek campground in Newfield, NY from June 1-5. As described in the attached rally coupon, this will be held at the same location as last year, SW of Cayuga Lake, in the heart of wine country. We hope to see many of you there. As I write this on Memorial Day weekend, I am reminded of my father s headstone at Arlington National Cemetery and the markers at cemeteries across the country and overseas where so many of our country s brave men and women lie at rest. We mustn t forget the ultimate price that so many have paid to secure our freedom and the peace we enjoy today. Our deepest gratitude to them all. 3 Joint Central Penn-Keystone Rally Shady Grove Campgound, Adamstown PA May The weekend rally with Central Penn and Keystoners was quite fun. We all met at Shady Grove campground near Adamstown PA. Attending were (from Central Penn): Larry and Rebecca Hass, Karen and Norm Fable, Bill and Nancy Richwine; (from Keystone): Howard and Arry Mergelkamp, Don and Phyllis Harrington, Jody and Sue Dietz, Wayne and Sue Fitzgerald (and cute g-daughter Andrea), Rick and Andy Pitts (hosts); and guests from Watchung NJ unit JoAnn Elacqua and daughter Sayla. We were treated to day visits from Peg and George Spahn, Sue and John Bates; and blessed with a stay from our longtime Airstreamer maiden Dame Grace Richwine. Early arrivals on Thursday set-up and prepped for an early visit to the Amish Farmers Market at Green Dragon on Friday. It was very hot, but we managed to find some fried oysters, chicken livers, crafts and fresh vegetables and meats. We were treated with a day visit from Peg and George Spahn and an evening supper of pulled pork and the fixins from Keystone. Jody Dietz got us all up early on Saturday so several could prep for the Weaverland Mud Sale if you ve never been, put it on your list! Once registered, you can bid on anything from bedding plants, welding machines, quilts and much, much more. Temps had dropped 20 degrees so suddenly it was chilly! Breakfast was a treat of pancakes, eggs and sausage, and we were again impressed by Jody D s pancake skills. Also, speedy recovery to George Spahn who just had surgery on his right arm to remove a melanoma (sorry man, no golf for a bit!) We are sorry to note that past first Lady, Edith Schleret passed away on May 15, at age 95. Edith and husband, Bud, who was president of Keystone, in 1990, have been living in Winter Haven, FL for the last several years. Our condolences to Bud and his family on the death of their loved one, Edith. May we all live to these loving, caring and sharing standards. This is the heart of New York s wine country providing ample opportunity to tour some world class vineyards and wineries.
