Members of the Florida Airstream Club gathered for a busy rally in Astor, Florida; April 6 10 at St. Johns River Campground. Our first evening happy hour was highlighted by introductions and the initiation of new members Bob & Sara Clark. Friday morning people gathered bright and early for a seven mile canoe/ kayak run at beautiful Juniper Springs, followed by a great seafood dinner at Essex house. Joining us for dinner, Sharen & Tony Turner were initiated as new members. Saturday morning the Allens and Krabels served up a delicious breakfast of fruit, eggs, and biscuits & gravy. Breakfast was followed by an eco-tour on the St. Johns River. We had a great guide and the weather and scenery were beautiful. Sunday morning breakfast of pancakes sausage and juice was served by the Millis. People had most of Sunday to do as they desired. I heard stories about kayaking on Wildcat Lake, including a rumor that the bass fishing was pretty good. Sunday evening was grill night with burgers, chip and pickles, and pot luck dishes as well. The campground provided us a recreation room with air conditioning, which was put to good use for cooking, and numerous joker games. The big fire places were also put to good use with campfires most every night initiated by the Thompsons. -Pam & George Millis PAGE 1

3 Our Next Events in 2017 MYSTIC SPRINGS JOINT RALLY (WITH PENSACOLA FLORIDA UNIT) MAY 18 21, 2017 Mystic Springs is an Airstream park located on the Escambia River, near Pensacola, Florida. The address of the park is: 591 Mystic Springs Rd; McDavid, FL (GPS: N W ) There is a boat launch on the river, about 100 yards from the campsites. Mystic Springs Rally Agenda Thursday May 18 Arrive and set up 4:30 pm Happy hour, snacks optional 5:30 pm Bring your meat to grill and a side to share Friday May 19 11:00 am Lunch at a local eatery with Pensacola Unit. 2:00 pm Art project with Maryanne (everyone is welcome) 4:30ish Happy hour, bring snack to share 6:00 pm Announcements and dinner Saturday May 20 8:00 am Breakfast (Pay rally parking fees) 9:45 am Gather for carpool and leave for Naval Air Museum tour. Make sure you have a photo ID with you. You will not be allowed in without it! 4:00 pm Happy hour, if we are back from museum, snacks optional. Sunday 5:30 pm Announcements and dinner 7:30 am Toast and coffee 11:30 am Pot luck lunch/brunch with Pensacola Unit 4:00 pm Happy hour, bring snacks 6:00 pm Grill night, bring something to grill and a side or dessert to share. Rally fee is $12.50 per person and parking fees are $11.00 for 30 amp and $13.00 for 50 amp per night. These fees will be payable to the Pensacola Unit, so bring cash or your check book (no credit cards). There are limited 50 amp spots, so the first to register get those spots. The Rhododendrons were in full bloom and were gorgeous. Our Florida group went out together to Enrico s in Young Harris for a delicious Italian meal one night.

The Saw Mill Place in Blairsville catered three of the rally meals, and they were very good too.

The rally s seminars, socials, and entertainment were very good. Mike Fuller, the magician, was a big hit, kept us laughing and amazed us with his tricks.

The local Airstream dealer, Southland RV/ Airstream of Georgia brought some new Airstreams and some service technicians.

Thanks to the generosity and support of everyone there, we were able to contribute well over $2,000.00 in cash and pet food to the Mountain Shelter Humane Society.

5 REGION 3 RALLY; APRIL 26 30, 2017; GEORGIA MOUNTAIN FAIRGROUNDS; HIAWASSEE, GA Approximately 134 Airstreams and 275 members of the Wally Byam Airstream Club, gathered for our annual Region 3 Rally. The campground was beautiful, but a little mountainous. Our site was right on Lake Chatuge as were many other sites. Some sites were up a pretty steep mountain with gorgeous mountain views or in the forest. Even though we had a paved site on the lake, we needed a stack of four links blocks to get us level! We told everyone to make a trip to the mountain top garden in the fairgrounds. The Rhododendrons were in full bloom and were gorgeous. Our Florida group went out together to Enrico s in Young Harris for a delicious Italian meal one night. Pat and I discovered the Georgia Mountain Restaurant in Hiawassee. Don t let the appearance fool you; it s a great little local place. The Saw Mill Place in Blairsville catered three of the rally meals, and they were very good too. The Top of Georgia Airstream Park is just over the mountain from Hiawassee, so next time you are there, check out these restaurants. The rally s seminars, socials, and entertainment were very good. Mike Fuller, the magician, was a big hit, kept us laughing and amazed us with his tricks. Walt Espelin, the man in the hat, from Hiawassee, also provided an excellent performance. The local Airstream dealer, Southland RV/ Airstream of Georgia brought some new Airstreams and some service technicians. We found out later that they were doing the service work for free! I wish I had known that my furnace wasn t working. Pat and I left North Georgia and traveled to the Airstream Service Center in Jackson Center, OH. Our mission was to get a bike rack installed and have some minor items fixed. Again, I wish I knew the furnace wasn t working. From there we traveled to the Virginia Highland Haven Airstream Park where we are now. It s a lovely park on a mountain top. This year s May cold snap, has the winds roaring and the temperatures plummeting into the 30s that s how I discovered the furnace wasn t working. Doctors in Melbourne found two tumors in his throat and possibly a third in his voice box. Vic Smith reports he is doing well after his last knee replacement (left). This completed the set of two hips and two knees. He is truly becoming a Bionic Man. Your Newsletter Editor, Randy Godfrey, finished his radiation treatments for invasive squamous cell cancer, and is, On the road again. He thanks everyone for their thoughts and prayers over the last several months. We have members who are ill, on chemotherapy, undergoing radiation treatments, awaiting medical procedures, and all trying hard to recover.
