SECRETARY S REPORT MEETING OPENED : 7.40 pm. WELCOME : Ian welcomed members to the March General Meeting. PRESENT : 18 members. APOLOGIES : Peter Dwyer, Robin and Sandra Wolfgang, Andrew and Nicole Haigh, Kelly McInnes, Ray Bond, Don Anderson. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING : Ken moved that the February general meeting minutes as published in the March Hub be accepted. SECONDED : Phil McLeod. BUSINESS ARISING : Nil CORRESPONDENCE IN : Australia Post invoice for PO Box, Westpac cash reserve and cheque account statements for February, Letter from RMS confirming Peter Dwyer as authorised contact for concessional registration matters, Invoice from LMC for Hub printing, Invitaton to Tilligerry Motorama, Invoice from Warners Bay Florist for flowers for Allan Starrett who had just undergone surgery in Warners Bay Hospital, Magazines from Sydney, Victorian and ACT jaguar Clubs and MG Car Club. CORRESPONDENCE OUT : Request to RMS to update concessional registration club contact person. Ken moved that the correspondence be accepted. SECONDED : Martin Dickenson. TREASURER S REPORT : There being no committee meeting prior to this meeting, Margaret deferred her report to the April General Meeting at Wallsend. SOCIAL SECRETARY : Bill gave a detailed overview of recent and proposed activities, details can be found later in these pages. WEBMASTER : Andrew Haigh has advised that the Hub magazine entries, events calendar, classifieds and point score results are now up to date on the website. There being no reports from other Office Bearers, the meeting moved on to : GENERAL BUSINESS : Ian advised that it is the intention of Singleton RSL to charge $150 for the hire of the meeting room in future. Alternative venues are being examined by local members and a recommendation will be made prior to the next scheduled Singleton meeting. Phil Mcleod raised the matter of redirection problems within the website. There is a real concern, and some evidence, that office bearers are not receiving s sent by people wishing to communicate with the club. This matter needs to addressed urgently, as it may be reflecting badly on the club s reputation. Committee members must currently communicate with each other directly via personal addresses, as the official club addresses cannot be relied upon. Ian Vaughan relayed an apology from Arrowfield Stud for their misunderstanding with the visit by club members during the weekend to Ian and Jenny s, and passed out some caps which had been presented to him by Arrowfield. Leyland Rix asked if the proposed dinner at Wallsend would be an official regular annual event, and if it would therefore attract points. Ian confirmed that this was the committee s intention. PROBLEM CORNER : Phil McLeod told of his problems with the satnav system in his recently acquired Subaru, which could easily apply equally to our own marque. Ian pointed out that the most common problem experienced by new car buyers today was with these systems, due 6 The HUB April 2016

apparently to individual manufacturers insistence on reinventing the wheel. This was supported by your Secretary s own experience with a Mazda CX5. The infuriating refusal of the satnav system to work reliably in this brand new car for the first 12 months of ownership was apparently due to an incompatible combination of Mazda hardware and Tom Tom software. Why do they do it? Barry Price bought along an incredible collection of flotsam and jetsam retrieved from his XJ6 fuel tank during a recent tank filter replacement, and no one was able to even imagine how or why this stuff could have found its way into the tank. He had also finally found the reason for an ABS warning light which had been on for the last 3 years in the XJ40, ie, a couple of joins in a cable in the circuit which caused sufficient electrical resistance to activate the light. Ian Vaughan told of the damage caused to his X Type diesel engine by a batch of bad fuel. Apparently fuel injectors for this car cost a horrifying $ EACH! And there are 6 of them!! Makes you think twice about the true costs of running a diesel. Luckily, in the end they were OK, but still a very expensive repair. The good news is that his insurance company covered the cost of repairs. John Moreman has finally found the cause of the glowing pedestrian safety warning light which has been referred to previously in this report. However as the cure involves the replacement of 2 tiny sensors at a total cost of $700, John has made the perfectly rational decision to defer this expense and accept that slow moving pedestrians may inflict some additional collateral damage to his XKR in the event of contact. MEETING CLOSED : 8.50pm. Ken Moore Happy Birthday to these Members and Family with birthdays in April: Victoria Gardiner (2nd); Alison Trigg (3rd) Andrew Haigh and Robin Wolfgang (14th); Graeme Cox (19th); Greg Jones (23rd); Narelle Saladine (26th) Dale Franke (28th); Martin Dickinson (30th) May your birthdays be filled with good health, laughter and safe driving. 8 SOCIAL SECRETARY S REPORT Firstly a get well message to Allan Starrett, Allan has been diagnosed with abdominal cancer and has been in for some surgery to remove the cancer, and recovery will take some time. We have sent flowers to Allan from all JDCHR members and we hope and pray for a successful outcome, get well soon Allan. A wonderful start to March with the Newcastle Show display and escorting the Miss Show Girls around the arena for the Grand Parade, unfortunately I wasn t able to get there, but by all accounts it was a successful day, with the Jaguars attracting much attention. The trip to the upper Hunter hosted by our members Ian and Jenny Vaughan, they made us most welcome, guiding us around the countryside and inviting us to their home for a BBQ. A fantastic weekend was had by all, thank you Ian and Jenny. On Saturday 12 we did our annual display at the Hawks Nest charity Motorfest, as it has been over the past few years it was a hot day for the display, but now with the canopies it makes the day a lot more comfortable. All enjoyed the day, displaying our Jaguars and inspecting all of the other vehicles there for the day. Thursday 17th was the Mid Week Run was to Denman, another good turn out of members having a great day out. April begins early with the Social Dinner on the 1st, followed the next day with the Observation run, finishing at the Swansea RSL for lunch, so put on your glasses and pay attention to score the winning points. The Mid Week Run this month will be to the Mulla Villa historic house at Wollombi, it will be a nice run on country roads and an interesting tour. It will be an exciting time for those going to Queensland to the National Rally, there is an impressive programme of events planned for the rally, culminating with an adventure trip home either with Ian Hissey via the far west or with Phil McLeod via Moree and Mudgee. June has the long weekend on 11, 12, and 13th, we are going to Port Macquarie for the weekend with members John and Dianne Hodge as our hosts and guide. There is a full weekend of events planned, check the flyer on page 37 for details, it will be an entertaining weekend. I have checked Port Macquarie and there is no major events in town for the weekend, so it shouldn t be too crowded, but you will need book early. On Saturday 23 July the Jaguar Car Club of Victoria is holding the 2016 Winton Track Day, it is a day exclusively for Jaguars and we will be attending as a club event. 8 The HUB April 2016

On Saturday 23 July the Jaguar Car Club of Victoria is holding the 2016 Winton Track Day, it is a day exclusively for Jaguars and we will be attending as a club event. Our All British Day this year is on Saturday 30 July, and plans are in progress for the day. If you can volunteer to help in any way please let our Grand Marshal Mark Perry or any committee member know what level of assistance you can offer for the day. There will again this year be an informal dinner after our All British Day with members from JDCA at the Newcastle Club, this will be the sixth year for the dinner, it has always been an outstanding night with likeminded Jaguar enthusiasts, great camaraderie and conversation makes a great night. The Floriade spring festival in Canberra is on in October. We will be going for the weekend Friday 7 to Monday 10 October (flyer on page 42). The Canberra Jaguar Club will host a dinner on the Saturday night and a tour run on Sunday. It will be a great weekend, but Floriade is very popular and we will need to book early (several months) to secure accommodation. The Cruise in December is on, and it is time to think about booking if you are coming. The Sydney and Canberra Jaguar clubs have been invited to join us, with a few already booked. The last cruise with the Jaguar Clubs was fantastic, and this one is shaping up to be just as much fun, book early, don t miss this opportunity for the one of the best holidays you could have. I hope you can join us on some of the events, we always have a rollicking good time when we get together, come along and enjoy Bill Whitby Jaguar News From Barry Melville I followed this young Swiss team last year in the 2015 Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup and they beat Ferrari in their class for a podium 1st in that class at Spa, still early days but already earning respect for Jaguar. Emil Frey Racing has confirmed Stéphane Ortelli for its 2016 Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup program, which will see the Swiss Jaguar move up to the Pro Cup. Ortelli already tested the privately-developed Jaguar during the official Blancpain GT Series test days at Paul Ricard earlier this month. For the first time, Emil Frey will enter a second Jaguar; the car will race in the Paul Ricard (6h) and Total 24 Hours of Spa with a yet-to-be announced lineup The HUB April

Murrurundi Weekend I have to start this report off with a big THANK YOU to Ian and Jenny Vaughan who planned the wonderful weekend. We commenced the weekend by meeting in Melbourne Street East Maitland, the street is wide with plenty of parking and little traffic, a great place to gather for the trip. We drove via the new expressway to meet Ian Vaughan who was waiting at Aberdeen to escort us to the Arrowfield Stud, about forty minutes away in the country. There had been a mix up with our times and Ian had been waiting at the meeting point an hour before we arrived. He was starting to think he had missed us, he had a sigh of relief when arrived, Jenny had gone directly to the Stud to assist with the preparations. When we arrived at Arrowfield Jenny was there and was stressed, there was no one at the Stud, Jenny had been around to all the buildings and fields, absolutely nobody home. So we did a self tour of the grounds and paddocks and we inspected the mating shed before having morning tea under the shade of a copse of trees. The grounds were beautifully manicured, there was not a blade of grass out of alignment, a reservoir in the front gardens with a fountain spraying the water high into the air. There was statues of horses and jockeys throughout the gardens all surrounded by neatly trimmed hedges. A truly magnificently kept estate, just a pity the guided tour didn t happen. It was almost noon when we left Arrowfield for the Vaughan s for the BBQ lunch, about forty minutes drive away, Jenny, again had gone on ahead to prepare for the lunch. It was a blistering hot day, especially for Autumn, but Jenny and Ian had plenty of liquids available and some nibbles for us to enjoy while the lunch was cooking. Ian and Jenny excelled themselves with the BBQ lunch, with the usual country hospitality the table they set was fit for a king, there was almost too much, but we managed clean up most of the lunch, and we managed (with much protesting from Jenny) try to help with some cleaning up. Afternoon tea was at Murrurundi, Jenny had phoned a friend who has an Art Gallery with a cafe in the back garden, they remained open until we arrived. A few of us had a superb coffee there, others had a cool drink at the hotel and we did some shopping in the main street. before returning to the motel for a swim and rest before dinner. The White Hart Hotel had our table reserved in the outdoor garden area at the rear of the hotel, a superb setting for a warm autumn night. The food was exceptional, everyone enjoyed the meal, the only complaint was the meal size was too much for one, but we know what country pubs are like, nobody goes away hungry. After dinner and much conversation a few of us stayed a while for the entertainment in the bar. 10 The HUB April 2016

Murrurundi Weekend Sunday it was up early and some decided to freshen up the Jaguars, they were pretty dusty from the country roads, we gave the cars a quick rinse off with a bucket and a chamois. Then off to the Aroma Cafe for breakfast, our booking was 8:00am and we are punctual, arriving as they open up for the day. A healthy menu for the breakfast, we are now ready to face the day, The run to Nundle is about 45 minutes through some very scenic countryside. We are booked in to the Woollen mills for morning tea and tour at 10:30am, with more cars from Tamworth joining us on display at the Nundle Country Picnic for the day. The Tamworth cars were in place when we arrived, we parked our cars in the display area in the front of the woollen mill. Nick, the manager from the mills and his helpers were busy setting up the morning tea. The morning tea was more of a casual High Tea, there was plates of cut fruit, sandwiches, sweets, macaroons and more, litres of tea and coffee all served in china mugs. One of the best morning teas ever. Nick organised and sent us to the rear of the mills where he soon joined and began the tour of the mills. He went into the description of how the wool was washed and loaded into the machines, he sent around samples of the product and demonstrated how the machines draw the wool from the fleece and spin it into yarn. At each stage of the process he had the machines started and described in detail what was happening at each stage up to the final product. The whole tour and demonstration went for one and a half hours. There were finished products for sale in the outlet, jumpers, shirts and blouses, scarfs and sox ect. all top quality and made from the Nundle Woollen Mills wool. With the tour finished we headed to the stalls, but as we wandered around the temperature was rising and it was very hot in the sun so it wasn t long before we went to the Nundle Hotel for a cold drink and maybe some lunch. The hotel had reserved us tables in the garden area at the rear of the hotel with shade umbrellas, but they only shaded one side of the table. We looked around and we found a large table in the shady corner and sat there and ordered cool drinks. No one was hungry after the sumptuous breakfast and the morning tea, so after cooling off with the drinks, and the time now almost 2:00pm and a three hour trip home we decided to depart for home. An excellent weekend enjoyed by all. Text and Photos by Bill Whitby The HUB April

Hawks Nest Motorfest The Hawks Nest Motorfest, although in March, the weather it seems always to be too hot for that time of he year, and this year no different from the past few years, just too dam hot. We met at the Shell Servo Heatherbrae and although at that time of the morning the day looked fine, it was already beginning to warm up. As we were waiting for our departure time we watched many classic cars heading up the highway to Hawks Nest for the Motorfest. Yes some of them looked nice, but I think our line up of Jaguars, especially the classics, looked sooo much better. The Jaguars just seem to have an edge over all the other marques. We arrived at the grounds of the field and started to erect the gazebos for shade, two of the club s and with Barry Melville and Bill Whitby s gazebos the four provided plenty of shelter for the day, thank goodness for those gazeboes, wouldn t have survived the day without them. Had a walk around and looked at some of the cars before the sun got too hot, as usual there is some very nice vehicles amongst the all the car clubs in the local area of the Hunter and surrounds. After looking at the vehicles on display it was time for a sit, morning tea coffee and a chat while the others were still wandering around the display. As lunch time approached a few of us decided to walk over to the hotel for some lunch. The hotel was in the adjacent street and we were to walk along the beachside walking track get there. The hotel bistro was set out as a tropical garden under a canopy with lots of shady vegetation, a cool breeze and with a refreshing cool drink it was a pleasant atmosphere. The HUB April

Hawks Nest Motorfest: cont Our nice meals soon arrived and it felt like you had a day out instead of just a display day. Kelly McInnes went and had a look at the water, and she had a little paddle at the waters edge the water looked inviting being a nice shade of blue. We returned to the display by walking through a track under the canopy of shady trees, as we arrived back they were announcing the prize winners from each section and the presentation was announcing that our member Peter Loyd won first prize with his MkIV, a big congrats to Peter with his well presented pride of joy. It was soon time to pack up, with four gazebos it was a combined effort to get them packed. It was after 1:30pm when we were leaving for home Kelly McInnes The HUB April

March Mid Week Run We gathered at Wallsend Diggers for the run. Our new venue is a good starting place for any run, it is very central to begin a run, we can head off without having to get through traffic. Although on this day there had been an accident on one of the main arteries into the city and the traffic build up in all other routes toward Newcastle were congested, but luckily we were heading off in the opposite direction towards Singleton. As we left Wallsend the traffic heading toward the city was looking like a long carpark. The drive to Singleton on the hew by-pass is a big improvement over the old route through the traffic in Maitland. We arrived at happy Grillmore s Cafe where we met up with members from the upper hunter waiting for us to join them for the morning tea. An outside area reserved for us, just as well it was outside, we had the volume turned up with our conversations. There was twenty of us all trying to talk over each other, as we do. The coffee and cakes were superb as is the service, but the talk was intense and it was an hour before I could get everyone moving on to complete the run to Denman for lunch. Ray Bond and John Moremon had gone on ahead, the noisy morning tea had them overwhelmed they would meet us at the hotel in Denman. The route we were taking was to head north on the New England Highway toward Muswellbrook and turn at Thomas Mitchell drive to Denman. It was a pleasant drive, with scenic country views, except when we are going past the open cut mines along Thomas Mitchell drive, the mines have mound the overburden along the roadside and have planted them with local vegetation as part of the regeneration program. It is impossible to see over the mounds, I think it is to hide the massive holes in the earth that these mines create, but we do get glimpses, and the mines are enormous. We arrive in Denman to find that Ray and John have pulled into the wrong hotel, and a few had followed them in. I pulled into the carpark and advised everyone that they were in the wrong place, we are expected across the road, I went on to the Denman Hotel as they advised Ray and John. I had made enquiries and was advised that the meals and atmosphere at the Denman would be better suited for us. The dining room at the Denman had our tables reserved and all set on white linen, the restaurant was very old world, we were all impressed. It wasn t long before we were all seated and ramping up the conversations again. The meals were splendid, I had to eat and run, we had an early afternoon appointment, but as I left the fine food, cool drinks and conversations were flowing freely. The return trip was over an hour via the Golden Highway, another pleasant drive in the Jaguar. Bill Whitby 18 The HUB April 2016
