6 FURTHER INFORMATION FURTHER INFORMATION POWDERHAM CASTLE TOBY BUCKLAND S GARDEN FESTIVAL Toby Buckland (former Gardners World presenter) is celebrating his 5th year of the annual garden festival, held in the grounds of Powderham Castle, near Exeter. Over 150 exhibitors will be offering quality plants from award-winning nurseries, together with unique West Country art and crafts, artisan food, and there will be speakers giving informative talks about all things garden! There will also be outlets for lunch and refreshments, and live music. THE ROYAL MINT EXPERIENCE, NEAR CARDIFF Located in South Wales, the newly opened Royal Mint Experience is the only place in the world where you can see the United Kingdom s coins being made. Go behind the scenes on a fascinating factory tour to discover how 1000 years of craftsmanship and skill, together with cutting-edge technology comes together to make coins & medals for over 60 countries. Learn how coins are made from raw materials, and how the designs are intricately imprinted on the face and rims. Try your hand at making your own coin, before exploring the interactive zone & gift shop. LUKESLAND GARDENS TOUR, IVYBRIDGE We will be given a warm greeting at Lukesland Gardens and taken on an informative tour of the gardens, set in a beautiful valley location, with a small brook cascading from a Dartmoor water source, through ponds and over waterfalls. The 24 acre site is a mix of woodland gardens, and formal gardens featuring colourful swathes of azaleas, banks of rhoodendrons, beautiful flowering shrubs and conifers. Afternoon tea and cake will follow the tour. ROYAL GARDENS TOUR AT HIGHGROVE Early booking essential (Photographic ID must be taken on the day) HRH The Prince of Wales is proud to open his estate to the public for guided tours of the Royal Gardens for a limited time each year. The gardens have been designed and managed to the organic and sustainable principles so close to his Royal Highness heart. The gardens include wild flower meadows, vegetable gardens and rare apple trees, amongst colourful herbaceous borders. Wildlife is actively encouraged and thrives in a beautifully maintained environment. The 2-hour tour, led by one of Highgrove s experts, highlights the Prince s own horticultural ideas and his displays his creativity & imagination. The gift shop offers a wide range of beautiful hand crafted and organic gifts. JANE AUSTEN S HOUSE MUSEUM, NEAR WINCHESTER This Hampshire museum is the only house where Jane Austen lived and wrote which is fully open to the public. Jane moved here in 1809 with her mother & sister, spending many happy years here until her death 8 years later. Wander through Jane s beautiful home & garden, learn about her life and works through exhibitions and displays. See many of her personal effects, letters, first editions of her books and the table where she wrote her novels, up close. The museum shop offers a large range of souvenirs and books for you to browse. BROWNSEA ISLAND (NATIONAL TRUST), NEAR POOLE Brownsea Island, managed by National Trust, located in Poole Harbour is accessed via boat (cost included) with spectacular views across to the Purbeck Hills. Thriving natural habitats (woodland, heathland and lagoon) create a special haven for wildlife, such as the rare red squirrel and a wide variety of birds, including kingfishers and oystercatchers. There is a café and gift shop on the island, but it is also a delightful spot to take a picnic and relax. GAME FAIR, RAGLEY HALL, WARWICKSHIRE The Game Fair is celebrating its 60th year in 2018, and a great day out for those with a passion for country pursuits and the Great British countryside! The show showcases the best of rural life in Britain from sport and country pursuits, land management including gardens and game-keeping, rural crafts and artisan produce, shopping and food & drink. There will be plenty of displays and shows for gun dogs, shooting, fishing, falconry and ferrets plus many more arena events, together with talks & demonstrations and off-road experiences. Something for everyone! SS GREAT BRITAIN & BEING BRUNEL VISITOR CENTRE, BRISTOL One of the most important ships in the world, built by possibly the most famous engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Launched in 1843 by Prince Albert, this iron vessel became the world s first great ocean liner, was later used to carry emigrants to Australia, and then as a cargo carrier to America. Immerse yourself in the sights, smells and sounds, stepping back in time in a Golden Age of travel, as you explore the decks, cabins, galley and engine room. Being Brunel is a new innovative museum which brings the great man to life with personal possessions, letters, documents and artefact covering his personal & professional life. There is also a café and gift shop on site. MAPPERTON HOUSE & GARDENS, BEAMINSTER One of Dorset s magnificent Jacobean manor houses and with 15 acres of valley gardens, Mapperton is home to the Earl & Countess of Sandwich. The croquet lawns lead down to the beautiful Italianate and wild gardens, together with grottoes, fountains & an orangery. An informative guided tour of the house will be given in the afternoon to view the elaborate rooms and family collections. The café offers delicious lunches and afternoon teas, and a gift shop. LONGLEAT S SKY SAFARI HOT AIR BALLOON FESTIVAL, WILTSHIRE After enjoying a coach tour of Longleat s Safari Park, complete with tigers, lions, elephants, giraffes, rhinos amongst many other safari animals, wander amongst Europe s largest hot air balloon festival in the grounds of the house. Dozens of hot air balloons in all shapes, sizes and colours can be experienced up close with a tethered launch, followed by a mass launch early evening, and an illuminating night glow. During the day you will also have time to enjoy the small animal enclosures and the elegant mansion house. Cafes and outlets offer food & refreshments. OSBORNE HOUSE, ISLE OF WIGHT We travel to Southampton for a short ferry journey to the Isle of Wight, to visit Osborne House. Osborne House was designed by Prince Albert as a favourite summer family retreat his wife Queen Victoria and their nine children. Step into the Victorian royal family s personal world, and explore State rooms, furnishings and personal effects, together with the children s Swiss Cottage, private beach, Italianate gardens & grounds. The Terrace Restaurant and Orangery serves a variety of snacks, light lunches and afternoon teas, and the gift shop is well stocked. AEROSPACE BRISTOL HOME OF THE ICONIC CONCORDE Bristol s newest attraction tells the story of the city s aerospace industry and a chance to step onboard the iconic Concorde. Designed, built & tested in Bristol, Concorde 216 was the final Concorde to be built and the last to fly, capable of cruising at over twice the speed of sound and crossing the Atlantic in under 3 hours. The Aerospace attraction also features exhibits and over 8000 archives from the earliest days of flight when Boxkite biplanes flew across Bristol, planes from both world wars and today s high-tech aerospace industry. BUCKINGHAM PALACE STATE ROOMS 2018 EXHIBITION TO MARK PRINCE CHARLES 70th BIRTHDAY This year s special exhibition at Buckingham Palace is dedicated to mark the 70th birthday of Prince Charles. Explore 19 magnificent State Rooms still used today to receive and entertain Royal guests on State, Ceremonial & Official occasions. Glittering chandeliers, beautiful pieces of furniture, art work by world masters and exquisite porcelain are all on display and can be viewed in rooms such as the Throne Room, Music Room & White Drawing Room perhaps the grandest of all the state rooms. ROYAL COURTS OF JUSTICE & OLD BAILEY TOUR, LONDON Join us for a fascinating day out and a guided tour of London s Royal Courts Of Justice to learn about the role of the Courts, the Lord Chief Justice and the criminal appeal process. We proceed to Lincoln s Inn Fields for a brief talk of the location where many of the country s top barristers have their chambers. The tour finishes at the Old Bailey (a court which hears more murder trials than any other court in the country) for a talk about its history and role. MORGAN MOTOR COMPANY FACTORY TOUR, MALVERN Join us for a fascinating factory tour of the Morgan Motor Company production plant to see the whole manufacturing process from start to finish. CANCELLATION must be notified to our reservations office. If more than 48 hours before excursion date, it will be subject to a 40% cancellation fee of the coach element and 100% of the admission, ticket or meal as applicable, which we will have purchased in advance. CONCESSIONS Special fares are available on some excursions for senior citizens and children aged under 14 years. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. DISCOUNTS are available for group bookings of more than 20 seats on same excursion. NO SMOKING A no smoking policy operates throughout all our coaches. GENERAL We reserve the right to cancel excursions should insufficient numbers be booked or adverse weather conditions dictate. We also reserve the right to replace executive coaches with standard if needed although this will be avoided as far as possible.
