Welcome to the Annual Review of Great Yarmouth Community Trust Growth During the work of the Trust has continued to grow. For the first time we have received a separate Children s Centre grant for our work in south Yarmouth and Cobholm and Southtown through the Greenacre Children s Centre. We gained a three year contract from NHS Great Yarmouth and Waveney to provide a PCT wide Community Nutrition Service building on our successful NRF project. We have also seen an expansion in our work with older people: an Age Concern England grant for two years has helped us set up the HAPPI Project to recruit volunteers who support older people to access new activities and we are piloting an Ageless Opportunities GP referral scheme at Central Surgery in Gorleston. The growth of the work the Trust is doing has put more pressure on the Priory Centre. During the year we took on a lease for office space at Europa House on South Quay and relocated the Community Nutrition Service, Priory Research Services and Priory Marketing. We expect the challenges for the Trust to increase over the next three years as we move to a new culture of commissioning of public services at the same time as we anticipate cuts in public spending. The Trustees and whole organisation is working towards establishing a Strategic Framework which will steer us through the times ahead. Staff This Annual Review cannot go by without remembering Jacky Hughes, the Greenacre Operations Manager, who died in January. Jacky had been part of the Trust since the early days. She was responsible for setting up the Parent Infant Mental Health Service and most recently for establishing Greenacre Children s Centre. She is missed by the whole organisation. This year, as every year, the Trustees want to acknowledge and thank every member of staff and volunteer for the enormous contribution they make to ensuring that the Trust remains a successful and vibrant community organisation. Challenges With the worldwide financial crisis and beginning of a recession hitting the UK economy the Trust expects to see a growth in demand for our services. We think that over the next few years, more than ever before, the demand for community anchors like the Trust will be strong. It has been frustrating that, just at the time when demand is rising, we have had to cut back on the learning opportunities we offer to people who are unemployed because of changes in funding arrangements. John Holmes Chairman Andrew Forrest Chief Executive Officer 2

Priory and Greenacre Children s Centres Great Yarmouth Community Trust is the lead agency for two of the Sure Start Children s Centres in Great Yarmouth: Priory in north Yarmouth; and Greenacre in south Yarmouth. Our Children s Centres deliver a core offer of services and our Integrated Team includes Music Therapists, Family Support Workers, Special Needs Workers, Play Specialists, Early Years Musicians, Health Visiting, a Speech and Language Therapist and a Psychologist. The Health Visitors also deliver our parent and child groups, enabling parents to access specialist health support for their children within a community setting. We have had a busy and exciting year with lots of new developments including: Mini MEND a healthy eating programme for families Launching the Early Years Foundation Project, working with nursery schools and preschools in our area to support practitioners to be more confident in their practice Working with GFS Platform to develop a service for young women not in education, employment or training Safeguarding children with stronger links to Children s Services and the secondment of a Social Worker to our team Employment of a Special Needs Family Support Worker to increase the support we can give to families with a child with additional or special needs This year we have worked with: 100% of families with a new birth, who have received information about the Children s Centres 55% of the children in the reach areas (1,115 of 2,037 children) 55% of families in the reach areas (880 of 1,603 families) 90 children with additional or special needs will be just as busy! We will increase the range of our work with families with additional or special needs, with the appointment of a Speech and Language Therapist and an Occupational Therapist to our Integrated Team; embed the Early Years Foundation Stage in our work with an Early Years Professional; re-launch the PIMHS Service for mothers with maternal depression; and work hard to evidence the impact we have on children and families for the new style Self-Evaluation Form. We also expect an Ofsted Inspection one of the first of Children s Centres in England. 3

Case Studies Bridge to Music My wee one loves a Tuesday morning and music with Charlotte and Liz she can t get here soon enough for the session. The children learn to listen, take turns, learn songs and mostly have a lot of fun using fun instruments. She loves the huge drum that she can lie on and feel the vibrations. Mini-MEND Parents said they were shocked by the amount of sugar, fat and salt that was in food and appreciated having a Nutritionist at the session. One mum said her daughter was now trying new foods she would never try before and Mr Moon helped with experimenting with new tastes. A good technique was to get children to kiss the food to get their senses going. It s all about trying new ways to introduce healthy options and supporting families to do it together. Back to Learning We funded a worker, based at the GFS Platform Young Women s Project, to work with young women who were not in employment, education or training. She established supportive relationships and linked them with Great Yarmouth College. For many young women this was their first positive experience of learning since school. Eight of them completed the programme put on by the College and have progressed to further learning opportunities at the Priory Centre. 4

Priory Day Nursery Great Yarmouth Community Trust owns and runs a 50 place Day Nursery, offering flexible fulltime childcare Monday to Friday from 8am 6pm. The Nursery contributes to the Priory Children s Centre core offer and has places for children from three months to five years. By offering flexible sessions (from full day care to sessional care) we aim to help parents to return to work with the confidence that their child is receiving high quality care and education in a great environment. In we will develop our outdoor area with new climbing equipment and safety flooring, continue to develop our standards and provision with the support of a new Early Years Professional and re-launch the Priory Crèche as a social enterprise. Overall we continue to work towards our ambition of an outstanding Ofsted judgement. The Nursery has had a busy year: The Ofsted Inspection found that we were Good for both the care we give the children and the early education they receive 135 children were registered with the Nursery We have supported 11 children with special or additional needs 5

Case Studies Raising Funds for Charities Through the year we have raised money for different charities in the summer we took part in a toddle waddle in St George s Park, where the children had a great deal of fun and raised 284 for Barnardo s. Children in Need saw us in fancy dress - including Scooby Doo, Minnie Mouse and Snow White. The children had lots of fun making Pudsey pictures and raised 187. The children and staff filled 20 shoe boxes for Romanian children for Load the Lorry, which joined the 9166 that were sent from Norfolk. And finally there was a pyjama day which raised 221 for RehabUk, which helps to support victims of major brain injuries through its specialist rehabilitation centres. Supported by Norfolk County Council Our Support Teacher, Teresa, has played a big role in the Nursery this year. She has worked hard with staff to help introduce the planning needed to deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. 6

Great Yarmouth Parenting Strategy Case Studies saw the coordination of the Parenting Strategy moving to a new home with the Excellence Cluster. The training provided by the Parenting Strategy stayed with GYCT and was kept going with transition funding from the Department for Children, Schools and Families Parenting Fund. This involved formally evaluating the facilitation programme Developing Quality Parenting Programmes so that it could be uploaded to the National Parenting Academy s toolkit for Commissioners. Across the year the Parenting Strategy has: Delivered facilitation training to 21 local practitioners Created the facilitation training into a package with an instruction book for trainers and a CD containing 38 specially designed overheads and handouts Run a programme for 5 women at the local refuge will see the Parenting Strategy renamed as it becomes a training provider, using Parenting Fund round 3. An access programme for parents who find traditional parenting programmes or mainstream services difficult will be developed and the Facilitation training will be rolled out more widely. Run a pilot programme for 10 Portuguese speaking parents supported with funding from the Comeunity Neighbourhood Management Programme Gift makes the biggest difference The gift of a very visually presented child development book was given to the group of mums on the domestic violence course, for their shared bookshelf in the resident s living room at the Refuge. They were so enthralled by the book and its straightforward presentation of suggestions to improve relationships with their children that it was borrowed immediately by one person who started reading it during the tea break, and a waiting list had to be negotiated for the others to borrow the book. Being flexible to meet parents needs The financial support from the Comeunity Neighbourhood Management programme enabled the pilot programme for the Portuguese speaking parents to be held on a Saturday, in partnership with the Portuguese Association at the Diversity Centre and with a local nursery who were able to open to provide childcare. Taking a new direction One person attending the Facilitation training had been helping to support parents in a school setting in an interim role. She was trying to decide about what she actually wanted to pursue as a career. At the end of the two-day programme she declared that the course had decided it for her and she was now determined to take up a professional career working with parents. 7

Ageless Opportunities Ageless Opportunities is an innovative partnership project run by Great Yarmouth Community Trust with the Older People s Network and Age Concern Great Yarmouth which: Compiles and publishes a directory of activities available across the borough for older people to access Links older people to these activities Promotes a positive image of older people Supports younger older people who are looking for work Represents older people s views to statutory organisations has been busy and exciting with the launch of two complementary projects an Outreach Project and the HAPPI Project, both of which are described in the next pages. Case Study The highlights of the year have included: The publication of the 3rd Ageless Opportunities Directory, with 8000 distributed 30 new groups were included in the Directory 197 people joined 59 groups within the first three months of the 3rd Directory being published. A summer fun day attended by over 150 people who enjoyed the chance to try out Wii Sport, table tennis, crafts, seated exercise and much more A new year fun day attended by 120 people Nine dedicated columns in The Great Yarmouth and Waveney Advertiser and 12 features in The Great Yarmouth Mercury Art workshops run in partnership with the National Gallery The launch of regular fitness sessions for the over 50s at the Priory Centre, with table tennis, Wii Sport and Wii Fit on offer All at Sea Marc Woodhead from the National Gallery in London ran three art workshops, looking at painting and images of the sea. Of the 70 people who applied 18 were chosen to take part as there were limited places. They worked together on their own art work and interpretations of the paintings they looked at. The group later visited the National Gallery and got to see the original paintings and organised their own exhibition - attended by over 100 people. GT YARMOUTH 8

Ageless Opportunities Outreach Age Concern Great Yarmouth The Outreach Project is a pilot scheme that began in December The focus of the project is advising older people with long term health conditions of the benefits of being more active. An outreach worker is based at Central Surgery in Gorleston. In the first 4 months of the project 200 people saw the Outreach Worker The youngest was 50 and the oldest 92 with the average age being 67 Case Study Opportunities open up AB, who is 71, came to see the Outreach Worker to see what activity they could join in. AB was caring for a relative, but felt that it was time to spend some time on themselves. AB had heart surgery in the past but felt they could manage most things. They chatted with the Outreach Worker and looked through the Ageless Opportunities Directory together. AB chose to try out three different activities. They attended each of them and enjoyed them so much they decided to continue with all 3! At a recent update AB was still attending the groups and has been encouraging other people to join too. Great Yarmouth Community Trust has continued to benefit from its close partnership with Age Concern Great Yarmouth, which has its administrative operation based at the Priory Centre, working alongside Ageless Opportunities and the HAPPI Project to promote the well-being of the 22,229 older people in the borough. Age Concern Great Yarmouth supports the 63 Older People s Clubs in the borough who are affiliated with it. These clubs reach over 3000 older people. Age Concern also campaigns tirelessly on older people s issues and provides services for the benefit of older people. It represents older people on some 22 District and County committees. A pop-in is held every Wednesday morning at the Priory Centre, where older people can meet and relax over tea or coffee. Some activities are available and advice is always on hand. A lunch club is organised each Friday at St James Church Octagon, which is extremely popular. Each year an Annual Reunion and Turkey and Tinsel event is arranged which some 1400 older people enjoy while being entertained and socialising with their friends. Open meetings are held at the Priory Centre, at which topical issues affecting older people can be addressed. GT YARMOUTH 9

The HAPPI Project The Healthier Active People & Promoting Independence Project recruits volunteers to help and support people over 50 to join groups and activities. The project matches trained volunteers to older individuals who, for whatever reason, are not able to take the first step to join a group or activity. The volunteer works with the person, helping them to access information through the Ageless Opportunities Directory, work out how to get there and all the other practical implications. Once the person has decided which activity they want to attend the volunteer will go along with them for their first few visits while they settle in and grow in confidence. In the HAPPI Project: Recruited and trained 40 volunteers Matched 26 volunteers and older people together is the last year of Age Concern England funding. The Project will focus on: meeting its target of 80 volunteers, finding ongoing funding and expanding its service to Residential Homes. Case Study When Mrs D found out about the HAPPI Project she realised that it could help her make new friends. There were activities she wanted to try but was too shy to do it alone, so she contacted the Project Coordinator. As a result Mrs D has been matched with a trained volunteer. She is looking forward to becoming more active and trying something new with confidence. 10

Community Nutrition Team In the Nutrition Team secured a three year contract from NHS Great Yarmouth & Waveney to roll out their service across the whole of Great Yarmouth and into Waveney. The team have continued to implement, deliver and assess a range of weight management programmes for adults, assist in the delivery of the MEND (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, Do It!) programme for 7-13 year olds, deliver the Joy of Food programme promoting cooking skills and promote healthy eating to community groups. During the year the team has continued to deliver our in-house 10-week weight management programme LIFE, the shorter LIFE Light course, Ideal LIFE for people with type 2 diabetes and Food, Fitness, Fun for people with learning difficulties and their carers. The team have started to create links across Waveney and will be delivering all of the programmes they offer, from Lowestoft to Beccles, by the summer. In the team will: continue to run all our weight management programmes for adults; support the delivery of MEND and HENRY; work closely with the Health Trainers and Exercise Referral Scheme; and develop a Community Cooks programme to create volunteer cooking champions, who will be able to deliver Joy of Food programmes across Waveney and Great Yarmouth. In particular the Team has: Welcomed 2 new Community Nutritionists and an Administrator to create a team of 6 Delivered 28 talks to over 1000 people Run 6 Joy of Food programmes Delivered 7 weight management programmes Supported the delivery of Mini-MEND with local Children s Centres 11

Case Studies Making a difference with Joy of Food Joy of Food at MIND has proved really successful this year. Cooking can seem a scary experience when you don t have basic cooking skills and worry about making a mess and wasting food. One of the team s clients attending the sessions had recently moved to the area and had never learnt to cook. Joy of Food helped him to follow a basic recipe and know the basics of healthy eating. As the programme progressed he gained confidence in the kitchen and started to try out recipes at home, he even brought in improved versions. After cooking the Fruity Curry in the final session he felt he had learnt enough to invite a neighbour around for some food and he is now hoping to cook for new found friends on a regular basis. Breakfast Boost The Community Nutrition Team joined up with the Health Trainers to tackle eating habits at Flegg High School. Going along to the school s Health Week, the team spoke to year 9s about eating breakfast and boosting their metabolism. The interactive sessions were well received and after learning about all the benefits of eating regular meals, many children who weren t eating breakfast said they would give it a go! Getting Fit, Getting Healthy Diabetes affects two million people in England and Wales; it occurs when the body is not sensitive to insulin hormone to control blood sugars. The Community Nutrition Team works both to prevent and help the management of diabetes through our weight management programmes. On a recent IDEAL LIFE course for people with type 2 diabetes, taking place at Fitness 2000 gym in Great Yarmouth, one participant attended to support his wife who had diabetes, and to improve his own health as he had a borderline diagnosis. Through attending the course, which covered all aspects of healthy eating, metabolism, healthy cooking, food and mood, and physical activity, the participant lost 1½ stones in weight and reduced his blood pressure. He was able to adopt healthier eating patterns, including increasing his consumption of fruit and vegetables. His improved health has been seen at regular follow-ups with the Community Nutritionists. 12

Priory Learning Team Learning continues to lie at the heart of the objectives of Great Yarmouth Community Trust. Our Learning Team has continued to provide high quality adult education to people with no or few qualifications. As a result of changes in the ways adult and community learning is funded, like many Third Sector providers, the Learning Team has had a difficult year. Our focus has had to move away from people who are out of work to those in work or volunteering. We have started to provide Literacy and Numeracy training through a Train2Gain contract with New College, Nottingham. We have continued to deliver ESOL from entry level to level 2. Towards the end of the year we received a grant from Great Yarmouth Borough Council s Community Cohesion funding to work with migrant workers who are unemployed or have very limited English skills. The College in the Community partnership has drawn in some funds to support us to provide workshops. In particular the Learning Team has: Worked with 300 learners Enabled them to achieve over 116 qualifications, including national tests in Numeracy and Literacy, ESOL and level 1 qualifications in Food Hygiene and Basic First Aid Put on 37 workshops to provide informal learning experiences to encourage people into lifelong learning Achieved 6 contracts to fund learning in will be a more settled year for the Learning Team, during which they will: continue to provide high quality learning, enter into a contract with Broadland training to deliver Literacy and Numeracy and an NVQ in Customer Service and Advice and Guidance, and begin to prepare for the introduction of Functional Skills in English and Maths. 13

Case Study Name: Hayley, age 22 with son of 14 mths Hayley was referred to us in March 09, having completed the 1st Phase of an LSC funded programme entitled Young Parents/Young Parents to Be, facilitated by Gt. Yarmouth College in partnership with GFS Platform. The Learning Team was given the responsibility for delivering a 2nd Phase of the programme, which addressed the young parent s self perception and their numeracy and literacy skills. Parents were also able to use the Priory s on-site crèche, giving the young mothers the security of having their children looked after close by whilst they studied. Hayley is an intelligent young woman who underachieved at school. She therefore lacks these basic skills qualifications and this has hampered her progress. When she first came to us she also needed support to build her confidence and self-esteem. Since her initial engagement onto our Skills for Life programme she has also taken part in recreational and self-esteem building workshops. In March 09 Hayley sat her level 1 Literacy and passed. She is due to sit her Literacy level 2 and Numeracy level 1 in June 09. During her time at the Priory, Hayley s maturity and confidence in her own abilities have grown. As a result of this, and Hayley s commitment to her learning and the regular support we provide, she has decided to go to Gt. Yarmouth College in September 2010 to work towards becoming a Teaching Assistant. 14

The Facilities Team Great Yarmouth Community Trust owns and manages two properties in Great Yarmouth: the Grade 1 listed Priory Centre, from which we deliver many of our services; and the Family Centre at Gordon Road. We let office space to a number of organisations in both buildings. We have continued to provide a home for Home Start Great Yarmouth, the Health Visitors and Age Concern Great Yarmouth. This year we have said good bye to Norfolk Learning Partnership and welcomed Hilton Care Ltd and NHS Great Yarmouth & Waveney s Specialist Breastfeeding Team. We continue to improve the Centre and in July heard that we had been awarded a grant from the BIG Lottery s Community Buildings programme, to make the Priory Centre fully accessible and increase our capacity for delivering services from the Centre. The Facilities Team also masterminded the refurbishment and relocation of the Community Nutrition Service and Marketing and Research departments to Europa House at 40 South Quay. The Community Café has remained at the heart of the work of the Facilities Team, providing healthy food Monday to Friday and catering services for meetings and functions at the Centre. The Café has seen a growing external buffet service this year, which has been an exciting addition to our work. In the Facilities Team will: welcome a new Manager; oversee the refurbishment work funded by the BIG Lottery; improve the customer experience; re-launch the Priory Centre following the refurbishment work; and continue to increase the buffet service provided by the Café. During the Facilities Team has: Hosted 1,304 booked sessions including meetings, parties and the Great Yarmouth Christmas Fayre Continued to host drop ins for Age Concern, the Friendship Club and the Baby Café 15

Case Studies... Food was the first year that the Priory Centre joined with the Town Centre Partnership to provide an additional venue for the Great Yarmouth annual Christmas Fayre. We created a Santa s Grotto, which proved very popular with the younger visitors, and cookery demonstrations were held in the Hall, arranged by Great Yarmouth College. The Priory also combined with the College to provide a hot buffet in St Nicholas Church, sponsored by Bowers and Barr, for the Norwegian choir and guests. The evening was so successful that we were booked straight after the event for the following year.... Learning and Drama The Priory Centre is now into its second year of being used most weekends. On a Saturday morning children age 7-11 can attend the David Copperfield School, which specialises in teaching children basic English and Maths skills. Run by CIVITAS, it was officially opened earlier in the year. Parents have been very positive about the effect the school has had on their child s increased academic achievements. Sunday mornings see the Priory invaded by youngsters attending the Silhouette Stage School, run by Helen Smith. At the end of each term they put on a performance and the Hall has reverberated to such performances as Grease, Annie and Oliver. The popularity of the classes is growing and numbers are increasing. The Priory Centre: Ideal for Music... In October 2008 the Gilbert and Sullivan Society gave a great performance of some of the society s best known songs in the Noble Hall and both the audience and performers were full of praise for the venue. 16

Priory Research Services Priory Research Services have continued to develop our work over the year, successfully tendering for a number of research studies and building relationships with a wide variety of partners, including Norfolk County Council, Norfolk Constabulary, Seachange Trust, Mancroft Advice Project and Enterprise GY. We have delivered varied contracts throughout the year, including: a study into Community Cohesion across Norfolk, an evaluation of the Migrant Gateway scheme, undertaking research into start-up businesses on behalf of Enterprise GY and a study into the Safer Neighbourhoods teams within Great Yarmouth for the Norfolk Police Authority. We have continued to deliver our Open College Network accredited Community Action Research Methods training programme, and for the first time this year delivered a level 3 programme to volunteers from the Comeunity Neighbourhood Management programme. In we will develop our business plan for the next three years, develop our accredited programme further to embrace the public representation agenda and build our capacity to deliver higher value contracts. In particular, we have: Delivered OCN training for 32 people Provided data and monitoring services to the 7 Children s Centres across the east of Norfolk Won 23 research and evaluation contracts worth 141,

Case Studies Community Cohesion The Community Cohesion project has consulted with people who were considered to have been excluded during previous research, in particular Gypsy Travellers, people with learning difficulties and migrant workers. As part of the project, a group of people representing these groups took part in a two-day training workshop to equip them with the skills to carry out interviews in their own communities as volunteer researchers. PRS supported them throughout the process. The initial findings from the research were presented at a conference held in March. The process of training community based researchers was central to the project, and in many ways this aspect of the research was of equal importance to the final results. Community Action Researchers PRS was commissioned to undertake an evaluation of the WAVENEY Partnership Community Television scheme. Researchers who had taken part in the level 3 Community Action Research Methods training helped in the data collection and analysis. The involvement of the researchers in the project helped them meet the practical element of the course and gave them first-hand experience of being involved in every aspect of a research project. Monitoring and evaluation of Children s Centres During the year PRS has continued to work with all the phase 1 and 2 Children s Centres in the east area, developing the database which is now used by them all. Additionally 3 Children s Centres in North Norfolk have also purchased the database system. Training and support was provided to Centre staff, and the system now enables all centres to record their progress and help in the Self Evaluation process. As all the centres have adopted the same system they are able to easily share information about families accessing their services from other areas and understand more about how their services and activities are meeting the needs of families. 18

Priory Marketing Priory Marketing has become established as a social enterprise, building relationships with external clients, whilst continuing to provide a service to projects hosted by the Great Yarmouth Community Trust. Still a small agency we specialise in marketing strategy, graphic design and photography. Building on foundations laid during Priory Marketing will move a step closer to becoming established as a regional marketing/design agency. A major overhaul of the Great Yarmouth Community Trust website will open the gateway to online marketing. We will begin to target the commercial market, whilst continuing our niche service for voluntary and statutory clients. During we were able to recruit a new graphic designer and move into our new offices at Europa House, working alongside Priory Research Services. Our years of experience of working in the Third Sector has placed us in an ideal position to help new and existing organisations to establish a corporate identity, launch their services and increase their reach figures through a range of quality promotional resources. New clients include Gorleston & Hopton Children s Centre, East City and City Children s Centres in Norwich, Norfolk Unites, Norfolk County Council Youth Team, Community Connections, James Paget Maternity Services and JobCentre Plus. We also hosted a marketing challenge for young entrepreneurs from two local high schools. Through the challenge the students gained a valuable insight into the working environment and the importance of team work, focus and self-motivation in generating new business ideas and plans. 19

Case Studies Gorleston & Hopton Children s Centre Early in 2008 we received a call from the Coordinator of a new Children s Centre to be located in Gorleston Library. We were commissioned to create an identity that would help the Children s Centre stand apart from the library service, within their shared premises. The logo s seaside theme links to the Centre s location, but its font hints of the Caribbean, expressing the staff s keen ambition to welcome diversity and bring together families from different cultures in the area. With an identity established we set to shaping the offer of the new Centre, bringing activities together into a multi-functional Programme, accompanied by a DVD to be shown on new Plasma screens in the library, stationery, posters and a portable banner. Young Entrepreneurs In November we set a marketing challenge for seven budding entrepreneurs from Oriel High and Caister High Schools as part of the Enterprise GY sponsored Enterprise Week. The team were challenged to devise a marketing campaign to promote the Priory Centre after the 267,000 BIG Lottery-funded refurbishment planned for summer The students rose to the challenge, demonstrating through their final presentations the insight this experience had afforded them into the world of work. Norfolk Unites Norfolk Unites is a consortium of Third Sector learning and skills providers. Our brief was to present a series of reports and Directory of services. Later in the year we produced the organisation s first newsletter and an invitation to an Employment and Skills multi-agency conference. Using their logo as our springboard we have taken a concept design across their materials, thus launching a recognisable brand. 20

Finance and Support Services Finance and Support Services provide a range of services to the whole of Great Yarmouth Community Trust: in particular financial services, financial management and reporting, internal audit and risk services, ICT support and human resources. During the department has increased its capacity, with the creation of an additional part time Finance Administrator post in December to cope with the 50% increase in financial transactions over the year. Much of our work is core and occurs every year: ensuring that monies owed to the Trust are collected in full and that all payments are made in a timely and accurate way; setting and monitoring budgets with Managers; conducting effective internal audits to ensure a smooth external audit; ensuring that the Trust s insurance portfolio is monitored and up to date; overseeing the recruitment, induction and on-going support of all members of staff and volunteers; and making sure that the Trust has sufficient ICT resources will continue to see the Trust grow with more members of staff and a bigger financial turnover. Finance and Support Services will again rise to the challenge, improving our systems and procedures. In particular there will be: a major overhaul of the framework for recruitment, induction, support and appraisal of employees; a review of the Internal Financial Controls Handbook; and a move to more secure office space within the Priory Centre, allowing for improved confidentiality and security. In particular, the Support Services Team of 6 has: Looked after a monthly average of 81 members of staff and 43 volunteers Recruited 18 new members of staff and 26 new volunteers Ensured that the 33 PCs, 33 laptops and 2 servers are maintained Processed 15,546 transactions Provided payroll services amounting to 1,062,491 Worked closely with Lovewell Blake to achieve a successful annual audit Worked with the Trustees, CEO and staff to update Trust policies and procedures to ensure compliance with new legislation 21
