3 YOUR ITINERARY Day 1: Fly Overnight to Scotland Board your overnight flight to Glasgow! Day 2: Glasgow Edinburgh Arrive in Glasgow and Transfer to Edinburgh Touch down in Glasgow, Scotland's largest city. Taking its name from the Celtic for The dear, green place Glasgow has a variety of stunning 19th century architecture and monuments to match its modern city status. Continue on to Edinburgh, capital city of Scotland. The city is built on a series of extinct volcanoes and offers stunning views of the scenic countryside as well as abundant historical splendor. Day 3: Edinburgh Guided Sightseeing of Edinburgh Today, enjoy a sightseeing tour that offers panoramic views of Edinburgh's New Town, constructed in the 18th century during a time of rapid expansion, known as the Scottish Enlightenment. See Charlotte Square, the center of New Town, then pass by the homes of Alexander Graham Bell and Robert Louis Stevenson, and view a monument to Robert Burns, Scotland's national poet. Visit Calton Hill, which offers splendid views of the Firth of Forth to the Lomond Hills of Fife. Pass the Palace of Holyroodhouse, still the Royal Family's official residence in Scotland, and the city's monument to Lord Nelson. Visit Edinburgh Castle Situated atop an extinct volcano, the castle is the enduring symbol of Scotland's capital and home to many of the nation's storied events. Ownership of the fortress changed hands on numerous occasions over the centuries, from Scottish to English and back again. Mary, Queen of Scots, gave birth in the castle to James VI of Scotland, who would later rule England as James I. Enter the castle through the Esplanade and see the Stone of Scone, the coronation stone that was returned to Scotland in 1997 after 700 years of English possession. You'll also see tiny St. Margaret's Chapel, the oldest part of the castle, dating back to the 11th century. Optional: Scottish Ceilidh Evening Partake in a traditional Scottish Ceilidh featuring haggis, neeps, and tatties, as well as authentic Scottish sword dancing! Day 4: Edinburgh Excursion to Stirling Visit the William Wallace Monument Long before he was portrayed by Mel Gibson in Braveheart, William Wallace was a Scottish national hero. Visiting this memorial, you'll hear Wallace's story, understand why the Scottish get angry if you call them English, and learn about other legendary Scotsmen, including the original James Bond, Sean Connery. Visit Stirling Castle There has been a castle fortification in Stirling for over 800 years and today you have a chance to explore these varied histories and eras. Learn about the turbulent measures imposed by many English invaders as well as the combined efforts of British forces in 19th and 20th century wars overseas. Day 5: Edinburgh Glasgow Transfer to Glasgow Taking its name from the Celtic for The dear, green place Glasgow has a variety of stunning 19th century architecture and monuments to match its modern city status. Guided Sightseeing of Glasgow Enjoy a guided tour of the lively, bustling city that was designated both the "European City of Culture" in 1990 and the " UK's City of Architecture and Design" in Formerly renowned for its shipping industry, Glasgow has diversified in recent years and is now a major technological center in Britain. Visit the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum Spend the remainder of the day at this popular Glasgow tourist attraction with a wide range of exhibits. There is something for everyone from interactive displays to cafes and shops. Day 6: Glasgow Belfast Transfer to Belfast Travel to Belfast, a city in transition, and learn how it's rede ning itself after famously undergoing a period of religious strife in the 1970s and 1980s. Day 7: Belfast Guided Sightseeing of Belfast Your tour of the capital of Northern Ireland allows you to see all of the city's famed landmarks. Starting at Donegall Square, presided over by the white stone city hall, you will also pass Belfast Castle with its huge estate rolling down the slopes of Cave Hill. Later, learn more of recent events and see the `peace-line' - a blockade of iron that divides Protestant and Catholic communities. Visit Titanic Belfast The Titanic Belfast Museum is a "can't miss" visit in any tour of Northern Ireland. It is located in the heart of Belfast, on the slipways where RMS Titanic was built, and offers over nine galleries including special effects, dark rides, full-scale reconstructions and innovative interactive features to explore the Titanic story in a fresh and insightful way. The museum traces the lifespan of the RMS Titanic from her conception in Belfast in the early 1900s, through her construction and launch, and finally to her infamous maiden voyage and catastrophic demise. Excursion to the Giant's Causeway Journey to Ireland's northernmost point to view the amazing Giant's Causeway. This fascinating geological phenomenon comprises thousands of 55-million-year-old hexagonal basalt columns that form a honeycomb pathway into the sea. Explore rock formations including the Wishing Chair, the Punchbowl, and the Giant's Granny, and learn the legend of Finn MacCool, the Irish giant said to have built the columns so that his true love could cross the water from Scotland. Near here, the Spanish Armada's flagship Girona sank in Day 8: Belfast Galway Transfer to Galway via a Visit to the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum Considered one of the foremost visitor's attractions in all of Ireland, the Ulster Folk & Transport Museum beautifully illustrates the traditions and living conditions of those from Northern Ireland. Spread over 60 lush acres, the museum includes numerous homes, mills, shops and churches which are appropriately furnished to display how these proud people lived, and continue to thrive. Arrive in Galway Today Galway is the cultural and artistic capital of the west of Ireland-as well as one of the best places to hear traditional music. Originally known as a center for fishing, the industry still plays a part in everyday life here.
4 Day 9: Galway Excursion to Connemara National Park & Kylemore Abbey Breathtaking scenery awaits you on this excursion as you travel across Connemara National Park. Located in the westernmost section of County Galway, Connemara National Park offers gorgeous views of moors, bogs, lakes and streams. Also included in the excursion is a visit to Kylemore Abbey, a picture-perfect castle of moats and turrets situated on the shores of a lake. Medieval Banquet at Bunratty Castle Built in 1520 by Hynes Clan, this 17th century castle takes you back to medieval times in Ireland. It was also visited by WB Yeats, George Bernard Shaw and other literary revivalists. Enjoy a medieval banquet at this venue tonight. Day 10: Galway Killarney Visit the Cliffs of Moher Enjoy an excursion to the Cliffs of Moher, which tower an imperious 750 feet above the Atlantic. This region is considered to have some of the most haunting and stunning beauty in a country filled with natural wonders. (If visiting in Fall or Winter add: Be sure to dress warmly-the winds at the top of the cliffs can be very strong!) Transfer to Killarney Transfer through County Kerry to the Killarney region, gateway to the Iveragh Peninsula. Enjoy the beautiful countryside in an area formed by glacial action following the last Ice Age. Day 11: Killarney Excursion to the Ring of Kerry Experience the mystical beauty of Ireland as you journey the 112 miles around the Iveragh Peninsula, better known as the Ring of Kerry. Encounter magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean, the Lakes of Killarney, and Macgillycuddy's Reeks (the tallest mountains in Ireland) as you traverse one of Europe's most spectacular coastal routes. Arrive in Dublin Arrive in literary Dublin, one-time home of James Joyce, George Bernard Shaw, Samuel Beckett, and W. B. Yeats! Dublin is also the setting for Joyce's Ulysses, one of the 20th century's greatest literary works. In recent years Dublin has also developed as one of Europe's busiest entertainment centers. Day 13: Dublin Guided Sightseeing of Dublin Begin your tour of the Irish capital by viewing some of Dublin's celebrated Georgian squares. From here you will visit St. Patrick's Cathedral to see the beautiful interior. You will then head past the Post Office, site of the 1916 rebellion, before continuing along the banks of the River Liffey. Continue your visit in Phoenix Park which houses the residence of the President of Ireland. Your tour of Dublin concludes with a visit to the city's renowned Trinity College to view the Book of Kells. Day 14: Dublin Exploration Time in Dublin Take some time to explore the city by the Liffey on your own. You may wish to re-visit Trinity College, any of the city's fine museums or the James Joyce Centre. Stroll through Dublin's artsy Temple Bar area or down Grafton Street-Dublin's most popular and liveliest destinations for shopping and entertainment. Day 15: Return Home Transfer to the Airport for Your Return Flight Your tour director assists with your transfer to the airport, where you'll check in for your return flight home. Itinerary is subject to change For complete financial and registration details, please refer to the Booking Conditions at Visit the Bog Museum Learn more about the formation and farming of the local landscape and its importance to the local way of life as you stop along the Ring of Kerry close to Glenbeigh. The bogs, or peat as they are locally called, still provide one of the central sources of power in the region. The museum is a scaled recreation of an 18th century village, allowing clearer insight into local culture and tradition. Day 12: Killarney Dublin Transfer to Dublin via Blarney and Waterford Visit Blarney Castle To reach the legendary stone and to receive the "gift of the gab," you'll have to climb the steps of the castle, lean backward under the parapet wall and kiss the stone upside down. You'll also see the ancient ruins of the Rock of Cashel. Founded by a follower of St. Patrick, the rock was once a stronghold for Brian Boru and other Irish kings. Visit the Waterford Crystal Factory Visit the factory that produces the exquisite world-famous Waterford crystal. It is the world's largest glassworks factory, and has been producing glassware since Learn about each step of the process, from molding molten glass to the delicate task of cutting and polishing.
