2 ITINERARY Great Britain - The Kingdom of Great Britain is comprised of the countries of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. It is a region of myth and legend, ancient and modern, tradition and rebellion. The diverse and lively culture swiftly endears visitors, and leaves them eager to return and discover more. Friday, 04 July 014 Our 4-hour Tour Director will meet us at the airport and remain with us until our final airport departure. We will have use of a private coach and driver, while touring for the next nine day(s). Visit Inveraray Castle the hereditary seat of the dukes of Argyll and the headquarters of the Clan Campbell since the early 15th century. This gray-green stone castle is among the earliest examples of Gothic Revival in Briain and offers a fine collectionof pictures, 18th century French furniture, old porcelain and an Armoury Hall which alone contains over 1,300 pieces. We will continue to the Oban (area), which will be our base for the next two night(s). While here, we will enjoy breakfast and dinner at the hotel. Known as the Gateway to the Isles, Oban is a bustling port located on the Firth of Lorne in the Argyll and Bute area of Scotland. Built on a steep hill, the town is dominated by the immense McCaig s Tower, an eccentric Colosseum-like structure built in the 1800 s. With regular ferries leaving for the Isles, it is one of the most visited places on the west coast. 3 Saturday, 05 July 014 Visit the quiet and peaceful Isle of Iona where 1,400 years ago, St. Columba came to this remote island and established his monastery, making Iona the cradle of Christianity in Scotland. For centuries, the island was also the burial place of Scottish kings. The 13th century Abbey is the highlight of Iona, standing on the site of Columba s first church. 1

3 4 Sunday, 06 July 014 Visit Dunfermline Abbey and Palace. The abbey is on the site of two earlier structures, a Celtic church and an 11th-century house of worship dedicated to the Holy Trinity, under the auspices of Queen Margaret. In 1150, the church was replaced with a large abbey, the nave of which remains, an example of Norman architecture. Visit St Andrew's Castle Edinburgh is widely regarded as one of Europe s most attractive cities, due primarily to its impressive medieval and Georgian districts and surrounding Lothian Hills. It is as famous for the arts as it is for its long and turbulent history. Both the Old and New towns are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. For the next two evening(s) we will enjoy the convenience of our centrally-located Edinburgh hotel, where daily breakfast will be included. Tonight we will enjoy dinner in a local restaurant. 5 Monday, 07 July 014 Visit Edinburgh Castle, a place filled with history, legend and lore. Our visit will include St. Margaret's Chapel, the State Apartments, the Great Hall and the Crown Chamber, which houses the Honours of Scotland (Scottish Crown Jewels). Visit St. Giles Cathedral, which was at the center of the Protestant Reformation in Scotland. John Knox, who had been appointed as Minister of Edinburgh, preached here from 1560 to 157, and eventually St. Giles would become the first Presbyterian Church in Scotland. Behind the cathedral is John Knox s Grave, which we will also try to see as it has been paved over in the centuries since his death. 6 Tuesday, 08 July 014 Visit Durham Cathedral, the greatest Norman structure in England, completed in The cathedral is one of Britain s most architecturally innovative buildings, and as such it was one of the first World Heritage Sites in the country and remains one of the most beloved cathedrals in England. Visiting York is like walking through a living museum. Its medieval structures are impressively preserved in its timbered houses and winding, cobbled streets, surrounded by the remains of the city walls. Founded by the Romans in A.D. 71, York was, for a long time, a strategic point used by both Saxons and Vikings. For the next one night(s), our base will be in York (area). Breakfast and dinner will be included at the hotel. 7 Wednesday, 09 July 014 Visit York Minster, which traces its origins from the early 7th century and features stunning stained glass from the Middle Ages. London is the largest city in Europe: quite a feat, considering its location on a relatively small island. London's location is perfect for an administrative, communications and trade center, as the Romans realized when they founded their city in AD 1st century. London is filled with countless historic and cultural treasures that meld seamlessly in this exciting, contemporary city. For the next three evening(s) we will enjoy the convenience of our centrally-located London hotel, where daily breakfast will be included.

4 7 Wednesday, 09 July 014 During our time in London we will exploring the areas of Westminster and Whitehall, including Trafalgar Square, Whitehall, Horseguards Parade, Parliament Square, Downing Street, St. James s Park and Buckingham Palace. We will enjoy our evening meal together in a local restaurant. 8 Thursday, 10 July 014 Visit Westminster Abbey, where English kings and queens have been crowned since Our Blue-Badge Guided Tour will include the Royal Chapels, containing the tombs of the English monarchs, as well as Poets Corner, featuring memorials to many famous British literary figures. Enjoy a Thames River Cruise, a relaxing way to view many of London s most magnificent sights. Our trip will take us past the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben and under the famous Tower Bridge. Visit the Tower of London, one of Britain s most fascinating and important historical structures. Begun as a fortress by William the Conqueror, the Tower is now primarily associated with the legendary figures imprisoned and executed here over the centuries. Our visit includes the armories, a display of instruments of torture and execution and the breathtaking Crown Jewels Exhibit. This evening we will dine in a local restaurant near to Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square, two of London s most vibrant and lively areas. 9 Friday, 11 July 014 Visit Windsor Castle, the world s largest inhabited castle, and one of the official royal residences of the British monarch. Our visit will include the richly decorated State Apartments and St. George s Chapel, a pantheon of English monarchs. Visit Highclere Castle seat of the Earl of Carnarvon and the main setting for the British television period drama Downton Abbey. Enjoy dinner this evening in Covent Garden, home to some of the city s liveliest restaurants, pubs and cafés. 10 Saturday, 1 July 014 Our rewarding and enjoyable tour comes to an end as our Tour Director accompanies us to the airport on our final day. 3
