Critical Information The following information is what you need to know. Air Travel You are responsible for purchasing your own airline tickets to India. All team members must arrive at Chandigarh, UT Airport (code IXC) on January 26 th and depart on February 7 th. The costs for any extended stay beyond these dates are at your own expense. Please do not purchase airline tickets until you have sent your itinerary to holly@impactnations.com for approval. You will be responsible for any charges incurred if you have to change your ticket. If you prefer, Impact nations has a travel agent who will make all your arrangements. Passports & Visas Make sure your passport does not expire within 190 days of travel date. Have your destination information with you and bring a photocopy of your passport and return air tickets. You must purchase your visas for India before arrival. This involves submitting your passport either in person at the visa office, or by courier, so that the visa can be glued in. Keep this in mind if you need your passport before you go to India. It is usually about a 7-14 day process. Each individual must obtain current information within his or her country. These links may help, but accuracy should be confirmed: Canada: for general information; for application; {note; this is a new company since last year} USA: Australia: UK: You should apply for a single entry, six months tourist visa (not a missionary visa). When asked the purpose for your visit, indicate tourism. If asked, the places of tourist Interest in Chandigarh are: Rock Garden, Sukhna Lake, Sector 17, IT Park, etc. You need to provide the hotel information: HOTEL CHANDIGARH BECKONS, SEC-42D, NEAR GOVT. COLLEGE FOR GIRLS TELEPHONE: If you find you need to provide an Indian reference in addition to the hotel please use: Pastor Randeep Mathews, A -88, Sunny Enclave, Sector 125, Greater Mohali Mobile Luggage Each team member may bring only one check-in piece and one carry-on piece of luggage. Please see packing list under helpful information.

Health Travel Recommendations for India: All travelers should review which vaccinations are required and recommended. These recommendations are based on the best available risk information. We do encounter various infectious diseases in the medical clinics. Please note that the level of risk for vaccine-preventable diseases can change at any time. All travelers need to have their vaccination records on the trip. Visiting your local travel clinic can give you the most up to date and personalized information. Vaccines: Please make sure your routine vaccinations are up to date. Vaccinations to consider for travel to India as posted by Canada Public Health: Hepatitis A & B Influenza Japanese Encephalitis Measles Rabies Typhoid Malaria: Risk of contracting malaria exists throughout the year in the whole country in areas below 2000m. Chandigarh is below 2000m, therefore, it is recommended that one take a prophylaxis anti-malarial medication while travelling to India. Malarone or doxycycline are commonly used for India. However, the risk for Malaria in January and February is reduced due to cooler temperatures. Animals: Travellers are cautioned to avoid contact with live animals, including dogs, monkeys, snakes, rodents, and bats. Prescription Medications: Leave all medicine in its original, labeled container with the name of either the pharmacy that dispensed the medication or the manufacturer of the medication. It is recommended that you carry a copy of the original prescription, with both the generic and trade names of the drug and a note from your doctor explaining why you are taking the medication. For further information, please visit:

India JOC Helpful Information Luggage Each team member may bring only one check-in piece and one carry on piece. (The airline will allow you two check-in pieces, but to accommodate the ground transportation, you should pack everything into one check-in piece). If you are flying out of Vancouver we may also be asking you to check in one bag of medicine or supplies. Remember that you will be responsible to carry your own luggage so please choose a style and size that you will be able to manage by yourself. Label your luggage inside and out with your full name and home address, including country. Also include the destination address with the dates you will be there. We will be staying at: HOTEL CHANDIGARH BECKONS, SEC-42D, NEAR GOVT. COLLEGE FOR GIRLS TELEPHONE: It is not uncommon to find luggage identical to yours on the airport conveyors so marking your luggage in some way for easy identification is a good idea. Be sure your suitcase can be locked while in the hotel. Any carry-on toiletries must be in containers less than 90 ml/3oz. and placed within a 1liter/quart sized clear Ziploc bag. DON T FORGET TO PACK IN YOUR CARRY-ON ANY PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS THAT YOU NORMALLY NEED TO USE. YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO OBTAIN THEM WHILE IN INDIA. Bring a small backpack as your carry-on or in your luggage to carry your water, toilet paper and any other personal items when doing village ministry. If you have a favorite water bottle you can bring that along as well, but remember, water cannot be taken on the plane. Dress Code We endeavor to not be a stumbling block in what we wear, and try to dress appropriately as a westerner in an Indian village. Each team member will receive 2 Impact Nations t-shirts that will be laundered daily (cost is covered by us). This part of India is cool at this time of year. The average daily high is about 20ºC (68ºF) high, 8ºC (46ºF) low. On ministry days you wear a team t-shirt that we provide. If you think you will be cool, plan on bringing something long sleeved to wear underneath. Women - Daytime and Evening meetings

Pants are fine. Long capris are okay, but culturally it is better to have your ankles covered. Please no form fitting or low cut t-shirts or blouses or short skirts. Always make sure your knees and shoulders are covered. Shorts can only be worn in your hotel room. - Sundays A dress, or a skirt and blouse, or blouse and nice pants. Shoulders and knees should be covered. Men - Daytime and Evening meetings Jeans and a t-shirt are fine but avoid shirts with slogans or humor. Words are used differently in other cultures and this can often cause offense. Shorts can only be worn in your hotel room. - Sundays Nice casual long slacks. Shirt with a collar either long or short sleeve (this may be of a button down style or a golf shirt style): No T-shirts please. Be prepared to wear a tie. This depends on which congregation you will be visiting. Chances are you won t need it, but bring one nevertheless. Everyone Comfortable shoes! You could be standing a long time. Avoid open toed shoes, as you will be walking on rough paths in the villages that are often littered with animal droppings. Also, in many places, body piercings, except for women s earrings, are offensive and should be removed for the trip. During personal time we ask that all dress remain modest. Although we don t expect it, we may have an opportunity for a swim, so you may bring your best conservative swimsuit. A detailed packing list is available as a separate document. Spending Money Your trip fee includes 3 meals a day, water, your accommodation (Jan. 26 th - Feb. 7 th ), domestic transportation and translators. You are also contributing to the costs of the medical clinics and outreach. Please be aware that it does not cover additional costs such as telephone calls from the hotel (expensive!), personal shopping, laundry, etc. The local currency is the Indian Rupee (INR). At the time of writing this document $1 USD was equal to 63 INR. For the latest exchange rate in your currency, visit The amount of spending money you bring depends on you, but for 12 days, you ll probably find $50 US sufficient, plus any money you want for souvenir shopping or as offerings and tips. Some countries reject older US Currency; bring the newest US bills you can find. We will arrange for you to be able to change currency; we recommend you have US Dollars. There is little to spend money on, although we will schedule a few hours of shopping the day before we depart.

Medical Insurance Impact Nations provides secondary travel medical insurance that is meant to supplement the insurance you have already arranged. It is accident coverage only - no pre-existing conditions covered. It also includes $50,000 Medical coverage with a $50 deductible $100,000 Emergency Evacuation $20,000 Return of Mortal Remains and $25,000 accidental death. Arrival City - Chandigarh Sunday January 26 th Arrive in Chandigarh (IXC) to be met by Impact Nations. Drive to hotel for dinner and team orientation. 6 India JOC Additional Information Hotel Accommodation We will be staying at: HOTEL CHANDIGARH BECKONS, SEC-42D, NEAR GOVT. COLLEGE FOR GIRLS TELEPHONE: Website: All rooms will be shared. There may be extra rooms available in which case you can request and pay the additional cost for a single room. Married couples will be assigned together! Some find it gets noisy at night; you may want earplugs. If you plan on reading after dark, you need to bring a personal reading light. Electric Current India s electrical power is distributed at 220 volts cycling at 50 Hz. Check over your electrical devices that you re planning to bring. Many of them can handle both 120/60 and 220/50 and do not need voltage converters. Hair dryers are usually not adaptable and require a converter that can provide sufficient wattage. You might want to take the hairdryer to the local electrical gadget store and ask them to match up a properly sized converter. Note that there are adaptors and converters. Adaptors are passive devices that allow your perfectly normal plug to fit into the strange local outlets. Converters are active devices that transform voltage levels and prevent smoke and acrid aromas coming from your no-longer-functional equipment. A short extension cord that provides 3 outlets can be very handy for charging several items at the same time, ie. Camera battery, PDA, laptop. - for more information on electric currents. Below are the most common outlets found in India:

Requests for money, gifts or personal information It is not unusual in most 3 rd World countries, or the poor areas of other nations, for the locals to request donations of money and gifts from ministry team members. They will also often want to have your personal telephone and contact information so that they can continue to request donations. As a team member, how you handle these requests affects the whole team and other teams that may be coming in the future, so we ask you to adhere to the following policies: Impact Nations is a ministry, not a foundation. What we have to give is spiritual impartation, training, primary local medical assistance during a Journey, power evangelism, healing and love. We seek transformation through Kingdom principles. We therefore ask our team members to refrain from giving out money or personal contact information. You may put something in the offering on Sunday. Sometimes will give the team the opportunity to contribute to a small project, give a love offering to the local team or church, which will be administered by the local leaders. When requested for personal contact information, you can provide them with our Impact Nations website ( and our address (info@impactnations.com). We will forward any inquiries to you that come through us if you wish. If a Team Member feels that the Lord has put it on their heart to give a donation to an individual or for a specific local cause, we ask that they discuss this with the Impact team leadership who will consult with the local leadership. It is important to understand that this tendency to ask for support is culturally normal, and should not be viewed by us as wrong or bad behavior on their part. But in the long term, we can easily be hindering God s work through monetary gifts rather than helping it. Security Some tips for cash & valuables: try not to appear wealthy, only carry what is necessary, remove all excess materials, and carry your money on the front side of your body. It is highly recommended that you have a money belt or document pouch, which is worn around your neck or under your clothing to store your money and important papers. These are readily available at travel stores and wilderness outfitters. Bring a lock so that you can lock your suitcase while you are out of your room.

Communication With us during the trip: You will receive a name badge on the first day of the mission along with an emergency contact phone number and address that fits in your badge holder. One or two of the team will be carrying a cell phone and will be available for emergency assistance. With home: Because this is a ministry trip rather than a vacation, we encourage you to let go of home issues and focus on ministry. In any case, you should not make promises with friends and family that you will be in touch frequently by phone or by as this is not likely possible. If you have a cell phone you hope to use during the trip, or a calling card from your telephone service provider, please call your service provider before the trip to learn whether these are operational in India and what special instructions you might need. Wireless Internet is available in the hotel. Your family and friends contacting you: Shortly after we arrive we will have a cell number that your family can use for emergencies. Language Hindi and English are the official languages in India. We will be using local translators. Local language is Punjabi. Health See Critical list for recommended vaccinations. 11 India JOC Fundraising/Payment Information HOW TO MAKE YOUR JOURNEY DONATION If other people want to make a donation toward your ground costs, please ask them to include your name with the donation. For US donors: 1. Make an online donation at payment 2. Make a check out to Impact Nations and mail it to: Impact Nations 115 Garfield Street #20825 Sumas WA For Canadian and International Donors: 1. Make a check out to Impact Nations and mail it to: Great Northern Way Abbotsford, BC V2T 6H4 WRITING AN EFFECTIVE SUPPORT LETTER Before anything else it is important to understand the opportunity that you have, and are about to share with others, to facilitate community around a common commitment to extend God s Kingdom. Recently I read something by a favorite author, Henri Nouwen: Fundraising is first and foremost a form of ministry. [It] is proclaiming what we believe in such a way that we offer other people an opportunity to participate with us in our vision and mission. Fundamentally, you are not asking people for money; you are inviting them to participate in an exciting expression of God s greater story. Earlier this year, one of the Impact Nations family sent out an excellent fundraising letter. Not only did it express an invitation, but it proved to be extremely effective it

resulted in people giving $5,000 beyond the ground costs and airfare that were needed! Here is an outline of the principles he used in writing his support letter: Begin with the news that you are going on a Journey of Compassion Explain the opportunity. Use links to the Impact Nations website (journey video, stories etc.) Tell why you feel called to this Journey. Include specific things you believe you will experience and grow in during the Journey. Tell why this is the right time and destination for you. Clearly, express your needs: financial partnering, prayer support, telling others about the Journey Explain clearly how to give. (Most will want to give online.) Make the letter colorful. Make all contact information (yours and Impact Nations) very clear. GOFUNDME.COM In addition to writing a support letter, we have had much success using gofundme.com. You can use it to create your own personal donation website.
