2 Greetings, Welcome to the tenth issue of the newsletter from your travel friends at UW-Madison Continuing Studies. So far, 2014 has turned out even better than we hoped! We had an absolutely wonderful journey to Italy that took us from Sorrento, up through Florence, down to Siena and culminated in Rome! I can t think of many better ways to spend two weeks than enjoying all that Italy has to offer, so we re going to try to get back there sooner rather than later. We ve also had a great weekend trip to Washington, D.C., and another outstanding visit to Charleston, SC, for Spoleto Festival, so things are rocking along nicely! If you re itching to get away before 2014 fades into the past, we still have some outstanding travel opportunities for you! By the time you read this we will have already returned from the Santa Fe Opera and are probably still on safari in southern Tanzania, but there s still time to join us for our annual visit to the Shaw Festival and, even better, we re taking our first visit to India in November, so let us know if you want to join us! This year is setting a pretty high standard, but 2015 looks to be its equal. In the spring we return to Peru; in April we take a trip focusing on the Civil War; of course we ll go back to Spoleto Festival (because it s just too good to miss); we return once more to the incomparable parks of Northern Tanzania for another life-altering safari; we take our annual trip to Canada for the Shaw Festival and, in the fall, we make our long-awaited journey to the wilds of Patagonia! We ll celebrate the end of this fabulous year with our annual Holiday Weekend in New York City! Whew! Remember: you don t have to wait for the brochure to sign up for a trip. There is a universal registration form at the back of this newsletter that you can use to register and/or lock in space for any of our upcoming trips. It is hard to overstate the beauty, intensity, sights, sounds, aromas, flavors, and sheer awe that comes with a journey to one of the world s most fascinating and complex societies, so I won t even try. We ll visit the Golden Triangle this time, and save the rest of the subcontinent for future trips. We ll begin in the bustling heart of the country, Delhi, we then move on to Varanasi, before flying to Khajuraho. From there we ll travel to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal, then head west towards the desert to see the architectural wonders of Jaipur and Jodhpur. Hurry. Time and space are running out!

We ll probably go to a jazz club, an opera, a symphony, one or two museums and still have plenty of time to shop and do the touristy things that everyone wants to do in New York. Peru March 1-16, 2015 Price $7,499 There are few places on earth that possess more awe-inspiring sites than Peru. You will tread the cobbled streets of Lima to learn the history and culture of the native peoples and of their conquest by the Spaniards; explore beautiful Arequipa; and delve into the archaeological capital of the Americas: Cuzco. Descend into the second-deepest landform on earth in Colca Canyon; sail upon Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable body of water in the world to visit the Uros people on their man-made reed islands; and venture into Peru s Sacred Valley to visit one of the world s truly wondrous places: Machu Picchu.
