JULY 19, 2013 FRI TOUR BEGINS: : LIMA / CUSCO / SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS Meals included: Lunch and dinner You tour begins with your morning flight from Lima to Cuzco. Upon arrival you will begin a lovely drive to the Urubamba valley, called the Sacred Valley of the Incas, You will stop on the way to the valley at Awanakancha, where South American llama s are bred. Here you will learn about the superb llama, alpaca and vicuna fibers as well as the ancient weaving techiques that are still in use. Dinner and overnight at * MABEY HOTEL. 20 Sat. SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS, lunch and dinner This morning we ll explore the Sacred Valley of the Incas and visit the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo. The site was built just as the Spaniards arrived and evidence of how it was constructed is still visible with all of the incredible stonework. After seeing the magnificent temples of stone you can stroll through the quaint streets of the town. After a delicious lunch you ll continue to Pisak for an opportunity to shop and bargain with local vendors at its handicraft market. Lunch will be served at Alhambra restaurant. 2 . SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS / MACHU PICCHU 21 SUN and dinner Early morning transfer to Ollantaytambo station to board the Expedition train to Machu Picchu. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes you will take a 25-minute motorcoach ride to "The Lost City of the Incas", Machu Picchu which was discovered by American explorer Hiram Bingham in Machu Picchu is considered both a masterpiece of architecture and engineering because of its unique architectural and landscaping features and incredible stonework. You will take a tour with your guide to the main areas in Machi Picchu such as the Main Square, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Intiwatana / Hitching Post of the Sun, the Sacred Sun Temple and the Death Stone. After the guided tour you will have free time to explore on your own and feel the energy of this mystical place. Dinner and overnight at * EL MAPI HOTEL MACHU PICCHU 22 MON and dinner For those early Risers you can take the bus up to Machu Picchu and witness the sun rise over the mountains of the Crystal City in the Clouds, a truly breath taking experience. For hiking enthusiasts, we suggest the hike up to the peak of Huayna Picchu mountain, to the Sun Gate or the Temple of the Moon. This day is yours to explore Machu Picchu on your own and discover the mystery and magic of this sacred place. Dinner and overnight at * EL MAPI HOTEL 23 TUE MACHU PICCHU / CUSCO This morning you will participate in a ceremony with a local shaman in Aguas Calientes. 3 24 WED CUSCO and lunch This morning a visit to the archaeological ruins of the Inca empire that surround Cusco, starting with the remarkable ceremonial center of Sacsayhuaman, continuing to Kenko, a limestone formation which has been intricately carved with depictions of entities. Here we explore winding underground passageways and a semicircular amphitheater. Finally we visit Tambomachay and connect with the Uma or water element. Enjoy lunch at Tunupa restaurant. Overnight at * HOTEL ECO INN CUSCO CUSCO / PUNO LAKE TITICACA 25 THU and dinner This morning we leave Cuzco and fly to Juliaca. Upon arrival we travel by bus to the Puno Lake Titicaca area and check into our hotel which is located on Lake Titicaca. Later today participate in a ceremony with a local shaman to honor the Waters of Lake Titicaca. Overnight at * ECO INN PUNO HOTEL. Dinner at the hotel 26 FRI PUNO LAKE TITICACA, lunch and dinner Enjoy a full day of sailing on Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. Depart early in the morning for the floating reed islands of Uros. Here the local inhabitants still live as they did centuries ago on these floating islands that they make with the totora reeds that grow in the lake. Continue sailing towards Taquile Island whre you will take a 30 minute hike to the small town inhabited by Quechua speaking natives. These Quechua, over the generations, have developed both an efficient and original social system, as well as a refined hand weaving technique. Lunch will be served in a local house that serves as a restaurant. After lunch explore the island on your own and appreciate the magnificent views of Lake Titicaca. Then return to Puno city. 4 Today travel southeast along the Lake Titicaca shore to a pre-inca site called Amaru Muru, Feel the energy of this awesome stone doorway which is believed by some to be an inter-dimensional gateway and where the seeds of all existence originated. Experience a ceremony with a local shaman to open you to other dimensions of reality. On the way back to Puno, visit Chucuito, the place of the Fertility Temple, where we find a rectangular compound of phallicshaped stones. Here we see the symbol of fertility carved in stone and understand that everything is vibrating in two polaritiesmale and female, Pachamama (Mother Earth) and the Cosmos, birth and death. Lima is a modern metropolis full of history, which has ten million inhabitants and is going through an exciting process of cultural and economic changes. WED 17 LIMA / PARACAS Early morning transfer from the hotel to the bus station. Bus departs Lima at 7am and arrives in Paracas at 10:30am. You will be met by an agent in Paracas and transferred to Pisco airport for a light aircraft flight over the Nasca lines. Nazca is a very small town and not even noticed on the map were it not for the mysterious lines on the desert that have made it famous throughout the world. A monkey, a spider, a humming bird and a whale, all of vast size, can only be seen from the air in a light Aircraft. From the air you can take some amazing pictures and see if you can decipher the mystery! Return to the hotel, afternoon is free to explore on your own. THU 18 PARACAS / LIMA You can have some free time this morning before you are taken to the bus station for the drive back to Lima. The bus departs Paracas at 2:45pm and arrives in Lima at 7pm.
