1 Situation Reports in India-3 15 th August, 2017 Situation in India Heavy rain in last few days triggered by flash floods has wreak havoc, paralyzing the normal life of people in many areas of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Northern West Bengal and Assam with 3 rd waves of deadly floods that hit the state. Floods Situation in Bihar as on 14 th August, 2017 According to the Bihar State Disaster Management Authority, nearly two million people have been affected by the floods including thousands who have been forced to flee their homes. In the last two days, nearly one million people have been displaced in Kishanganj, Araria, Purnea and Katihar districts. Page 1 of 5

Floods Situation in Uttar Pradesh as on 14 th August, 2017 Of the 16 mighty rivers whose water level was monitored on Saturday, at least 14 were flowing either above the danger-mark or showed a rising trend in the districts they flow by. The number of flood-hit districts in UP has risen to 16 with more than 4.6 lakh people hit by the natural calamity. No. of Districts Affected Total: 16 districts akhimpur-kheri, Bahraich, Gonda, Barabanki, Bijnore, Sitapur, Deoria, Faizabad, Mirzapur, Mau, Farrukhabad, Pilibhit, Ambedkarnagar, Badaun, Kushinagar and Basti are affected. 1. Shrawsti: Jamunha, Gilaula, Bhinga, Hariharpur Rani & Ekauna blocks are affected. 123 villages affected and 55 submerged also. Currently Approximately more than 90,000 populations affected. Bhinga and Bahraich road eroded yesterday night and transportation has been congested. 2. Bahraich: (Worst affected bocks Shivpur, Mahsi, Mihipurwa, Kaisarganj & Fakharpur expected population affected approximately more than 125,000, 100 GPs, 137 villages, 250 hamlets, affected 37 submerged in Shivpur and Mahsi Blocks. 3. Gonda: The Karnailganj, Paraspur & Nawabganj blocks are affected, 498 hamlets affected and more than 80,000 populations affected. 4. Lakhimpur khiri: 25 villages 5. Mirjapur: 13 villages 6. Deoria: 9 villages 7. Faizabad: 10 villages nearest of Nwabganj block, Gonda 8. Basti: block Vikramjot and 17 villages affected 9. Piliphit: 22 villages 10. Kushingar: 39 villages 11. 3 3. Floods Situation in West Bengal as on 14 th August, 2017 All major rivers in north Bengal were flowing above danger level. In Malda district, Phulahar river has crossed its danger level, while 20 villages, mostly under Harischandrapur Block-II and Ratua block, were inundated. Northern Districts of West Bengal are totally cut off by road and railway communication from Kolkata (state capital), Maldah and also from Patna. Following districts are falling under this group - Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, Coochbehar, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, North Dinajpur (Partly). As of now, North Dinajpur and South Dinajpur experiencing rise of river water and inundation. Floods Situation in Assam as on 14 th August, 2017 The 3rd waves of deadly floods that hit Assam has claimed three more lives on Monday. The flood, so far, has hit people in 25 districts, besides snapping rail connectivity to the Northeast. 4 Humanitarian Response: IAG-Assam has call for Emergency Coordination Meeting on 16 th August, 2017 at Guwahati in view of the critical flood situation in Assam. B. Emerging needs: Source: ASDMA, IAG-Assam and Medias Though it is too early to spell out needs on ground but some of the immediate indications of humanitarian support outline the following: WASH o Bleaching powders and water purification tablet with hardware support like bukets, mugs & soaps and other hygiene items. o Sanitary pad Health : Important medicines through health camps Food Security: Dry Ration for 1 week to 10 days (Rice, Chana Chattu, Channa Dall and important items) and nutritional baby foods items.
