1 SITREP NO-40/ hours No.32-20/2010-NDM-I Ministry of Home Affairs (Disaster Management Division) Dated, 10 th July, 2010 Subject: SOUTHWEST MONSOON-2010: DAILY FLOOD SITUATION REPORT SUMMARY OF IMPORTANT EVENTS AS ON RAINFALL/FLOOD SITUATION IN THE COUNTRY HARYANA Light rainfall has been reported in few parts of the State. 03 districts (Ambala, Kurushetra and Kaithal) have been badly. No human death has been reported in the State so far. 08 teams of 8 th BN NDRF consisting of 343 personnel alongwith boats-52, life jacket-110, life buoy- 187, inflatable lights-08, dragon light-10, torch (large)-72, chain saw-08, nylon ropes-11 bundles, reflective jackets-325, generator-08, tent-11, tarpouline-18 and deep diving apparatus-12 have been deployed at Kurushetra and Kaithal for emergency response and rescue operations in flood areas. National Highway-1 traffic got disrupted due to water logging in some parts of the states, but is now open. Railway communication has been disrupted due to water logging in train lines. Some boats of State Government were also been deployed for rescue and relief operations. PUNJAB Light rainfall has been reported in some parts of the state. Due to incessant rains over the past four days, 04 districts (Roopnagar, Ludhiana, SAS Nagar and Patiala) have been badly. 05 teams of 7 th BN NDRF consisting of 207 personnel alongwith boats-28, life jacket-47 and life buoy- 25 have been deployed at Patiala and Sangrur for emergency response and rescue operations in flood areas. About 178 villages in district Patiala have been. 15 casualties have been reported so far across the state. 11 cattle/livestock have perished. About 900 people are reported to have been. 1,41,500 ha cropped area are reported to have been. 80 fully and 129 partially houses have been damaged. 26 Medical teams and vet teams have been deployed in the flood areas. 03 relief camps have been opened. 21 boats in Patiala district have been deployed for evacuation km road have been damaged due to heavy and incessant rainfall. 1

Fairly widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal, West Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Scattered rain/thundershowers would occur over Gujarat State, Interior Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, interior Karnataka, Orissa, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. CENTRAL WATER COMMISSION (daily water levels and forecasts for level forecast sites) There are 06 Moderate flood situation sites in the country on DEPLOYMENT OF NATIONAL DISASTER RESPONSE FORCE (NDRF) 22 teams (consisting of 895 personnel) of NDRF have been deployed in Assam - (4), Maharashtra - (3), Uttarakhand - (1), Haryana (8), Pune (1) and Punjab (5). INDIA METEOROLOGICAL DEPARTMENT (Mid-day weather report) Major features of weather forecast Widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over northeastern states, Sub- Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh. Warning Isolated heavy rainfall would occur over Konkan & Goa and East Uttar Pradesh during next 48 hours. Heavy to very heavy rainfall would occur at a few places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and Bihar during next 48 hours. Weather outlook for next two days Decrease in rainfall activity over central and peninsular India. Widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls would continue over East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and northeastern States. 2
3 CENTRAL WATER COMMISSION (daily water levels and forecasts for level forecast sites) According to the Central Water Commission (CWC) report dated 10 th July, 2010, there are 06 Moderate flood situation sites in the country, as per details given below:- Moderate Flood Site Assam - River Brahmaputra at Dibrugarh is flowing at m against the danger level of m with a steady trend. - River Brahmaputra at Neamatighat is flowing at 85.61m against the danger level of 85.04m with a rising trend. - River Brahmaputra at Dhubri is flowing at 28.63m against the danger level of 28.62m with a falling trend. - River Dhansiri (S) at Golaghat is flowing at 77.48m against the danger level of 77.42m with a falling trend. - River Puthimari at Kamrup is flowing at 51.82m against the danger level of 51.81m with a falling trend. - River Beki at Barpeta is flowing at 45.26m against the danger level of 45.10m with a rising trend. DETAILED SITUATION HARYANA Moderate to heavy rainfall has been reported in few parts of the State. About 20,000 people, 85 villages and 02 districts have been. No human death has been reported in the State so far. 08 teams of 8 th BN NDRF consisting of 343 personnel alongwith boats-52, life jacket-110, life buoy- 187, inflatable lights-08, dragon light-10, torch (large)- 72, chain saw-08, nylon ropes-11 bundles, reflective jackets-325, generator- 08, tent-11, tarpouline-18 and deep diving apparatus-12 have been deployed at Kurushetra and Kaithal for emergency response and rescue operations in flood areas. Due to water logging in some parts of the states National Highways and Railway communication has been disrupted, but still open. 02 Army Columns deployed in Jyotisar (Kurushetra district) wef 0400 hrs on 07 July, 2010 for flood relief activities and bank reconstruction of Sutlej Yamuna Link, Canal. 02 Army Columns deployed in Devinagar (Ambala district) wef 1130 hrs on 07 July, 2010 PUNJAB Moderate to heavy with isolated very heavy rainfall has been reported during next 24 hours. Due to incessant rains over the past four days, the districts of SAS Nagar, SBS Nagar, Fatehgarh Sahib and Ludhiana have been badly. A breach in Samrala Canal (Ludhiana) that has inundated over 20,000 acres of land. 05 teams of 7 th BN NDRF consisting of 207 personnel alongwith boats-28, life jacket-47 and life buoy- 25 have been deployed at Patiala and Sangrur for emergency response and rescue operations in flood areas. 3
4 About 494 (Roopnagar-58, Ludhiana-203, SAS Nagar-55 and Patiala-178) villages have been. 15 casualties have been reported so far across the state. 11 cattle/livestock have perished. In Maharashtra, 04 teams consisting of 164 personnel (Kurla West-44, Andheri-44, Bhandup-46 and Pune-30) alongwith equipment have been deployed for monsoon/flood related emergencies. In Uttarakhand, 01 team in Gala Post, Pithoragarh consisting of 14 personnel alongwith equipment have been deployed for dealing with any natural calamities or any contingency during the entire period of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra In Haryana, 08 teams (Kurukshetra-03, Ambala-03 & Kaithal-02) consisting of 343 personnel alongwith equipments have been deployed for emergency response and rescue operations in flood area. In Punjab, 05 teams (Patiala-03, Sangrur-02) consisting of 207 personnel alongwith boats and other life saving aids have been deployed for emergency response and rescue operations in flood area. LOGISTIC SUPPORT PROVIDED BY THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE ON 10 th JULY, 2010 Haryana 02 Army Columns deployed in Jyotisar (Kurushetra district) wef 0400 hrs on 07 July, 2010 for flood relief activities and bank reconstruction of Sutlej Yamuna Link, Canal. 02 Army Columns deployed in Devinagar (Ambala district) wef 1130 hrs on 07 July, 2010 Punjab 01 Army Column has been deployed in Patiala district wef 0500 hrs on 08 July,
5 REPORTS RECEIVED FROM STATES/UTs Moderate to heavy rainfall with isolated very heavy falls has been reported in some parts of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Lakshadweep, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Sikkim. The rainfall activity in the rest of the country is not significant. Based on the reports received from State/UTs, details of extent of damage and relief operations are appended in Annexure-I & Annexure-II respectively.
