Situation update: Ten people have been killed and the following figures were reported as a consequence of the floods in the period from 4 to 7 August 2005 Total number of the population affected ; Evacuated people ; Residential and pubic buildings flooded ; Totally destroyed residential and pubic buildings 185; Residential buildings untenantable 1292; Bridges destroyed 125; Bridges damaged 125; Water-main interrupted 129; Landslides activated 650; Supporting walls demolished 500; Drain-pipes damaged 529; Pumping stations damaged 71; NON - CLASSIFIED -1-

2 Dam walls broken 6; Dikes breached According to reports released by the Bulgarian Government the situation in Bulgaria is gradually back to normal after the recent floods. 1.2 State of Disaster is still in place in 18 municipalities in the country. 1.3 Additional forces of the State Agency Civil Protection from regions, which have not been affected, have been relocated to the affected areas. National response teams, Civil Protection Forces, experts from state- and private- Water and Electricity emergency units continue with relief operations and drainage works. Disinfecting activities in the affected areas continue. 2. 6 5.9 Turkey Turkey has made a financial contribution of USD to Red Cross Bulgaria Unites States The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through CARE International Bulgaria provided USD for the most urgent needs. With this aid litres mineral water and food packages were procured and distributed by Bulgarian authorities in Miskovo, Elin Pelin, Gorna Malina, Ihtiman and Kostenets. The financial support will further be used to for motor pumps, outboard engine inflatable boats, water proof clothes, sanitary materials, washing detergents, chemical toilets, disinfectants, etc. 6.
