EATON SOUTHEASTERN REGIONAL BLACK ARCHIVES RESEARCH CENTER AND MUSEUM 445 Gamble Street Known as the Black Archives, the center s mission includes collecting, preserving, displaying and disseminating information about African Americans and people of Africa worldwide. This collection is the most extensive in the Southeast. Center and museum are open Monday Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Free. 5 6 GOODWOOD MUSEUM & GARDENS 1600 Miccosukee Road Situated in the heart of Midtown, this 1830s plantation boasts 20 structures and is situated on 16 acres of gardens and lawns. Open Tuesday Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission: $12 adults; $10 seniors, students, and veterans with ID; $6 children (ages 6-12). HERNANDO DE SOTO WINTER ENCAMPMENT SITE Governor Martin House, 1001 De Soto Park Drive GOODWOOD MUSEUM & GARDENS This is the site of the first North American Christmas celebration and the only confirmed De Soto expedition site in the United States. The Hernando De Soto expedition camped here from , during its first winter in North America. 2 7 KNOTT HOUSE 301 East Park Avenue Preserved to its 1928 decor, this uniquely furnished home is a portrait in time reflecting the lives of state official William Knott and his wife. Guided tours available Wednesday Friday, on the hour, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.; Saturday, on the hour, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission: $1 per person. 8 MISSION SAN LUIS 2100 West Tennessee Street In the late 1600s Mission San Luis de Apalachee was the western capital of the many Spanish Missions throughout Florida. This 65 acre, National Historic Landmark is the only reconstructed Spanish Mission in Florida offering artifacts uncovered at the original site, costumed historical interpreters, hands-on exhibits and re-created period buildings. Open Tuesday Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission: $5 adults; $3 seniors (ages 65 and over); $2 children (ages 6 17); children under 6 are free; Active Duty Military Free with ID. MISSION SAN LUIS 9 MUSEUM OF FLORIDA HISTORY R.A. Gray Building, 500 South Bronough Street What a better way to get an overview of the state s rich history than to visit the Museum of Florida History. Here Florida is chronicled through more than 40,000 artifacts and permanent exhibits spanning from the prehistoric mastodon to paleo-indians, Civil War to Civil Rights to the Spanish arrival, exploration and settlement and up to Florida s industrial development. The museum recently added a new permanent exhibit named Forever Changed, La Florida, , which depicts several centuries of Native American and Spanish colonial history and cele-brates Florida s quincentennial. Open Monday Friday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Sunday and holidays Noon to 4:30 p.m. Free. 10 TALLAHASSEE MUSEUM 3945 Museum Drive 11 The museum boasts 52 acres which include: native wildlife habitats, Tree-to-Tree Adventures an outdoor zip line and adventure course, historic buildings and educational exhibits. Open Monday-Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission: $12 adults; $11.50 seniors and college students; $9 children (ages 4 15); children under 3 are free. TAYLOR HOUSE MUSEUM OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY, CULTURE AND CIVIL RIGHTS 442 West Georgia Street TALLAHASSEE MUSEUM Built in 1894, this historic home is listed under the register of historic places. It now houses a museum celebrating the rich heritage of the Taylor, Casanas, Howell and Alexander families, the Frenchtown community, Florida and the Tallahassee Civil Rights movement. Open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 10 a.m.to 2 p.m. Free. 12 JOHN G. RILEY MUSEUM OF AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY & CULTURE 419 East Jefferson Street The house was built in 1890 on the outskirts of the historic Smokey Hollow neighborhood by John G. Riley, civic leader and principal of Lincoln High School. The house has been restored and is a museum honoring Riley and other prominent African American leaders from the area. Open Monday Thursday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Friday Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission: $5 adults and children; $2 Leon County School Students. 13 TALLAHASSEE AUTOMOBILE MUSEUM 6800 Manhan Drive Features more than 140 rare vehicles including 1894 Duryea (one of the oldest automobiles manufactures in the U.S.), the 1860 horse-drawn funeral hearse that carried Abraham Lincoln, and three Batmobiles. Other collections include antique boat motors, Native American artifacts, sports memorabilia, motorbikes, pedal cars, case knives, antique brass cash registers and more. Open Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission: $17.50 adults; $15 seniors and military; $11.75 students (age 10-college) with ID; $8 children (ages 5-9); children under 4 are free. 14 THE GROVE MUSEUM 902 North Monroe Street The Grove features educational exhibits on all three floors of the restored home and throughout the 10-acre grounds. It is the oldest antebellum home in the area and considered the original Governor s Mansion. Grounds are open Wednesday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Guided tours available Wednesday-Friday, on the hour, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.; Saturday, on the hour, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free.

3 ART & SCIENCE 15 CHALLENGER LEARNING CENTER/IMAX THEATER AND PLANETARIUM 200 South Duval Street Featuring simulated Mission Control and space station laboratory, 50-foot dome planetarium and the area s largest 3D IMAX movie screen. For further information, please visit challengertlh.com 16 FSU NATIONAL HIGH MAGNETIC FIELD LABORATORY AKA THE MAG LAB 1800 Paul Dirac Drive This facility is home to the world's largest and strongest magnet, which produces a magnetic field one million times stronger than the Earth's. Known as a world-renowned hub of exploration in the fields of physics, biology, bioengineering, chemistry, geochemistry, biochemistry, materials science and engineering the lab brings over 1,100 visiting scientists to Tallahassee each year. Research using magnets similar to those housed in the Mag Lab have created many of the modern conveniences we know today including high-speed trains, electric lights, MRI machines and computers. Tours are offered the third Wednesday of each month or can be arranged three weeks in advance by calling (850) Free. 17 FSU MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS 530 West Call Street Contemporary and traditional art showcased in both rotating and annual exhibits. Open Monday Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Free. 18 LEMOYNE CENTER FOR VISUAL ARTS 125 North Gadsden Street This art gallery hosts exhibits from local and world-renowned artists working in mediums from watercolors to oils and avantgarde to traditional. Each year the center is host to the Chain of Parks Art Festival, a juried art show bringing artists from around the country to our area. This is a truly a must see. Open Tuesday Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free. 19 LEMOY NE CEN TER FOR VIS UAL AR TS RAILROAD SQUARE 602 McDonnell Drive Once a historic warehouse district, the 10-acre site is now home to more than 50 artist studios, galleries, and small shops. Railroad Square Art Park serves as Tallahassee's "Art District," the creative haven for many Tallahassee artists and other creative, small businesses, such as vintage clothing and thrift stores, shops featuring locally-made products, and even a vintage pinball arcade and indoor rock climbing gym. Each local business offers different hours of operation. 4 ESSENTIAL TALLAHASSEE 20 CANOPY ROADS Huge moss-draped live oak limbs form a towering canopy making these roads seem more like tunnels. There are nine official canopy roads creating approximately 78 miles of scenic drives around Tallahassee. Go to VisitTallahassee.com for a map of official canopy roads. Free. 21 BRADLEY S COUNTRY STORE Centerville Road This family-owned store, listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, has been operating since 1927 and is famous for their homemade sausage and country milled grits. Open Monday Friday 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday 12:30 p.m. 4:30 p.m. Free. PARKS & RECREATION 22 CASCADES PARK 1001 South Gadsden Street This incredible 24-acre downtown park features multi-use trails and a Capital City Amphitheater hosted for live events. The park is open daily. Free. CASCADES PARK 23 LAKE ELLA North Monroe Street & Lake Ella Drive This beautiful park is perfect for a quiet stroll or walking your dog, while enjoying a cup of coffee or an ice cream cone purchased from one of the cottage shops surrounding the lake. Stop by on a Thursday evening for Food Truck Thursday The park is open daily. Free MACLAY GARDENS STATE PARK 3540 Thomasville Road The park features enchanting floral architecture with more than 200 varieties, a historic home, hiking, biking and nature trails along with swimming, fishing and boating. Gardens are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. special rates apply January April for garden entry. Park is open 8 a.m. to sundown daily. Admission: $6 per vehicle, $4 single occupant vehicle, $2 pedestrian/bicyclist. ST. MARKS NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE 1255 Lighthouse Road, St. Marks, FL The Refuge is a part of the Great Florida Birding & Wildlife Trail. Visit the ranger station where guests can borrow binoculars and scopes to view birds and wildlife found throughout the park. The grounds also include a historic lighthouse. Each October thousands of Monarch butterflies migrate from Canada to Mexico. Open sunrise to sundown 365 days a year. Admission: $5 per vehicle; $1 for pedestrian/bicyclists. MACLAY GARDENS 26 TOM BROWN PARK 501 Easterwood Drive This 225 acre multi-use park offers disk golf, lighted sports fields, biking trails, running paths, dog park and playgrounds. Open daily sunrise to sunset. Free.

5 27 EDWARD BALL WAKULLA SPRINGS STATE PARK 465 Wakulla Park Drive The largest and deepest freshwater spring in the world. Parks activities include jungle boat cruises, wildlife viewing, swimming, restaurant, trails and more. Open daily 8 a.m. to sunset. Admission: $6 per vehicle; $4 single occupant vehicle; $2 pedestrian/bicyclist. Boat tours: $8 adults; $5 children (ages 3-12); children under 3 are free. WAKULLA SPRINGS 28 FSU RESERVATION 3226 Flastacowo Road The park offers access to Lake Bradford for swimming, kayaking, SUP and canoeing. The park s offerings also include the High Challenge ropes course, climbing wall, sand volleyball, disc golf, and outdoor games. The park is open daily Noon to 7 p.m. during peak summer months. Admission: $3 ages 16 and up; $1 ages 7 to 15; children 6 and under are free. Other fees vary for watercraft rentals and climbing wall. For further information, visit CampusRec.fsu.edu 29 DOROTHY B. OVEN PARK 3205 Thomasville Road The park boasts six acres of lush gardens featuring azaleas, camellias, palms and local floral. During the holiday season, visitors of Dorthy B. Oven Park enjoy more than 250,000 twinkling lights, displays and holiday music. Open daily 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Free. 30 LAKE JACKSON MOUNDS ARCHAEOLOGICAL STATE PARK 3600 Indian Mound Road Dating back almost 12,000 years, the park offers impressive temple mounds of paleo-indian life along the basin of Lake Jackson. Open daily 8 a.m. to sundown. Admission: $3 per vehicle; $2 for pedestrians/bicyclists ELINOR KLAPP-PHIPPS PARK 4000 North Meridian Road This beautiful 670 acre tract of land is located on the eastern shore of Lake Jackson and offers blue bird and butterfly trails, hiking, biking and a youth sports complex. Open daily from sunrise to sunset. Free. PARK AVENUE HISTORIC DISTRICT AND CHAIN OF PARKS 301 East Park Avenue; Downtown Tallahassee; Call Street College Avenue Stroll through downtown to experience Tallahassee s oldest continuous green space. Nestled along this route are historic homes and seven parks anchored by two historic cemeteries. LAKE JACKSON MOUNDS ARCHAEOLOGICAL STATE PARK 33 NATURAL BRIDGE BATTLEFIELD HISTORIC STATE PARK 7502 Natural Bridge Road This park is the site where The Battle of Natural Bridge took place in March Confederate troops from Tallahassee won the battle and halted the Union advance. The reenactment of the battle is held annually in early March. Open daily 8 a.m. to sundown. Admission: $3 per vehicle; $2 pedestrians/bicyclists. 34 SAN MARCOS DE APALACHE HISTORIC STATE PARK 148 Old Fort Road, St. Marks, FL This National Historic Landmark is where Spanish explorer, Panfilo de Narvaez arrived with 300 men in The Spanish built their original fort in 1679 to protect the Spanish missions in the area. Open Thursday-Monday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission: $2 museum fee; children 5 and under are free; park entrance is free.
