Acomodation 11.8% 128% Restaurants Other 4.The persons employed at the tourism industry in Mexico, actually drew the 7.6% of the total amount of wages and salaries paid in Tourism Receipts 5.The total receipts generated by the International visitors in 1999 was of 7,587 millions of dollars, comprising the expenditure generated by the tourists, and border & port visitors (less than one day stays). 6.The receipts generated in 1999 by the International tourists to Mexico reached 5,869 millions of dollars, due to the expenditure of the Inbound and border tourists ( more than one day stays on both cases) 7.The foreign currency income produced by the one-day visitors in the same year, was established at 1,7 1 7 millions of dollars, integrated by the expense performance of the border visitors and the passengers traveling on the cruiseline ships while visiting Mexico. 8.The 7,587 millions of dollars, as the total income generated by the International visitors to Mexico at 1998, represents more than a half of the 14,013 millions of dollars showed as the deficit on the Current Account of Mexico's Balance of Payments. 9.With this kind of income produced, the tourism retains its leadership among the most important earners of foreign currency, right after the manufactured goods and the oil industry..

5 LI 6 I 0.The average expenditure of the International tourists in 1999, was of 521 dollars per visit to Mexico. I.The net results of the 1999 Tourism Balance, reflects a positive amount to Mexico of 3,050 millions of dollars. I 2.Accordingly, 1999 will become the fifth consecutive year on which a positive result of more than 3,000 millions of dollars is posted at the Tourism Balance. In the ten years span previous to 1995, the highest positive yearly balance reached did amount roughly to 1,000 millions of dollars. a 13.The positive result of 3,050 millions of dollars reflected on the 1999 Tourism Balance, is equivalent to half of the deficit of 5,360 millions of dollars showed at the 1999 Mexico's Trade Balance. 14.The foreign currency captured in Mexico through the International visitors expenditure for the years 1995 to 1999 did amount to 35,187 millions of dollars. 15.The positive results for the tourism industry, as reflected on the Mexico's Tourism Balance, accumulated for the years 1995 to 1999, amount to 16,937 millions of dollars. I 6.The income in foreign currency generated by the expenditure of the International visitors in Mexico, have growth to a tune of a 5.5% yearly average, thru the years 1995 to 1999 period. Income's Redistribution and Regional Development I 7.The Tourism's contribution to the Gross Domestic Product, GDP, represents 8.2% of the total. Fiscal Contribution 24. Accordingly to an estimation done by the ' Mexican Classification of Activities and Products". CMAP, presented by INEGI, of 36 economic activities related to the tourism industry, the fiscal taxes applied did produce 27,487 millions of pesos, an amount equivalent to a 12.4% of the total fiscal collection.

Demand 2.1 In Mexico In the year 1999, the total number of International visitors admitted was of 100,062 thousands of persons, with I 9'236 thousands being International tourists, and 80'826 thousands of less than one day stay visitors in Mexico. Of the mentioned I 9'236 thousands International tourists, I 0'407 thousands of them visit, arrive or disembark in the ports or inland points of Mexico, and 8'829 thousands enjoy their visits at our country, with stays at the border zone. 100 millions were the visitors classified with less than one day stay length in Mexico, 77.7 millions of them located at the border zones and the rest did disembark in ports and visit Mexico, while traveling on the cruiseline ships. Mexico in the year 1999, for the first time in the national tourism history overpass the 3 millions of cruiseline ships passenger arriving to Mexican ports. The number of International tourists arriving and staying in Mexico have registered an steady growth of 7.7% annual average, considering the years 1995 to The United States of America provide close to 88.2% of the tourists, that yearly visit Mexico. 48.The Mexican citizens, living abroad, represent the 22% of the total of the inbound tourism. kan CIdw Rest of InboundTourist 22% 49.49% of the International tourists, while visiting Mexico, stay here from 6 to 10 days. China will overtake the first place, moving aside nations such as France, and Spain, that for now hold the first two leading positions. In 1998, there was 13.5 millions of hotel rooms listed on the world. Other Tourism Services In the Country of Mexico, there are 3,856Travel agencies operating. The rental car firms total 628, operating throughout Mexico business concerns operate an specialized tourism ground transportation system. 17 Notas Metod - The data included in the document, when concerns the impact of tourism over the employment and the Gross Domestic Product, GDP, were obtained from the "The Satellite Account for the Tourism in Mexico', a measuring process performed by the National Institute of Statistics, Geography and Informatics, INEGI, as well as Secretariat of Tourism, SECTUR, based on information from the National Accounts System. The items cited over domestic tourism, were taken from the " National Home Survey over the travels of Mexicans", a joint study released by the National Institute of Statistics, Geography and Informatics, INEGI, and the Secretariat of Tourism, SECTUR, over the 1994 to 1997 years period.
