2 WHEN AND WHERE The training course will be held on September 2011, in Pescara (Italy). A well developed seaside resort on the Adriatic coast of Italy, Pescara is not only one of the most popular beach towns in Abruzzo but it is also the gateway into the rural part of the region, which features traditional towns and large national parks. Most visitors to Pescara come for the sun, sand and sparkling clear waters, but the town itself also offers several cultural attractions, including music and literature festivals. Pescara is especially famous for its clean and wide beach, lined by a very animated seafront offering an endless promenade. The Museo Delle Genti D'abruzzo is dedicated to the customs and traditions of the people of the Abruzzo region, who are some of the most traditional in all of Italy. The Cathedral Of San Cetteo, dedicated to the town s patron saint, houses the marble tomb of Gabriele D'Annunzio's mother. The Piazza Rinascita, Pescara s central square, is lined of cafes and restaurants that fill the plaza with tables and chairs. The Basilio Cascella Museum houses the Art Noveau works of the Cascella family, who are famous local artists. San Cetteo Cathedral Cascella Museum The heart of Pescara, for example, offers the large, valorized d'avalos and Santa Filomena pine groves, the latter is now a State Nature Reserve that separates Montesilvano from its beach. It is a popular, lively coast, driven by an enormous selection of amusing, fun activities that make it enjoyable, and it offers plenty of 1

3 accommodation and entertainment options. Perfect for families seeking large beaches and suitable facilities, for the younger age groups who want sport and nightlife, for singles or for groups of friends who want to socialize in an upbeat atmosphere, but also for the older age group seeking a slower pace of holiday,with amenities on hand. The biggest marina on the Abruzzo coast was inaugurated in 1989, in Pescara. The location, size and services offered, make it one of the most important modern marinas in the Mediterranean, whilst its strategic geographical position means it is well placed to provide the widest choice of sailing destinations: Croatia, Greece, the Tremiti islands, the Gargano promontory and the Conero Riviera and this has ensured its success. The marina has 180,000 sqm of water and 72,000 sqm of land and bridges, can berth about 1,000 boats, as well as offering dry docks for maintenance and repairs, nautical service companies and boat charter; there is also a large shopping area. The marina offers a full calendar of sporting and cultural events, all open to the public: regattas, motorboat competitions, concerts, fairs, markets, shows, charity events, sporting events of all types. The lovely marina is open to the public, and it is an interesting, enjoyable venue with excellent amenities: it is an excellent place to stroll on a summer evening, among the piers, boats (often luxury craft) and an assortment of shops, attracting countless visitors. Pescara river, after which the provincial capital is named, enters the sea right in the city centre, flowing down from the mountains along a valley that widens so much in the final part that it seems almost to be a plain. The Tiburtina Valeria is the ancient Roman consular road that leads towards the suggestive Intramonti gorges, which open into inland Abruzzo. Pescara river 2

All the extra are not included. Breakfast includes: - sweet and savoury buffet; - fresh juice; - 1 hot drink (coffee, tea, cappuccino, chocolate, etc.) Everything not mentioned has to be considered an extra. Lunches and dinners at hotel Esplanade consist of both warm and cold buffet with starters/salads, many different main courses and various desserts. Vegetarian needs have already been considered for both lunches and dinners. In case of specific alimentary requirements, we kindly ask to inform the Technical Secretariat. SOCIAL EVENTS The social dinner will be served on 28 September 2011, at the restaurant Roof Garden Le Terrazze of Esplanade Hotel. 3

5 CONFERENCE CENTRE, TECHNICAL SECRETARIAT AND SERVICES The course will be held in the fully equipped Conference Centre provided by the hotel: direct phone line Wi Fi Internet phone conference closed circuit TV wide screen TV amplification system audio visual equipment slide projector fixed and mobile microphones. The technical assistance will be always available in. During the whole duration of the course, the personnel in charge of the Technical Secretariat, currently speaking English, Spanish and French, will be available to offer the participants all the required support (general information, logistics, program, material etc.). A Secretariat area will be equipped with computers, Internet access, printers and all the necessary supplies to guarantee an efficient organisation. 4
